Ko Jum was an amazing escape and we felt we got to see the real Thailand in our 2 nights on the island. Do not come to Jungle Hill expecting 5 star luxury - the bungalows are very basic but you are there for the experience. We paid 1000 baht a night for a fan room which we felt was quite pricey, however it had lots of character. You can fall asleep listening to the waves and all if the animals outside. Bring lots of mosquito repellent though. Lots of steep steps so might not be great for more elderly travellers, even we found it a bit of a work out! The staff are very friendly. We suggest having a walk around for places to eat - breakfast was very expensive for Thailand. Overall, it was a special stay but 2 nights was definitely enough to see everything we wanted.

It is so peaceful here! We stayed for 3 nights in December 2013. The huts are very basic but comfortable beds and hot showers! The staff were friendly and the food was great. The beach is lovely and the weather was incredible. You don't get separate beach / shower towels so I would recommend taking a towel! Very small and quiet island - perfect for couples. It was easily my favourite place in Thailand - absolutely loved it, went to Phi Phi afterwards and wished I had stayed on Jum!! Tip - watch out for the monkeys they stole our crisps!

My apologies to all for not sharing this slice of heaven.

Me & the Mrs went here December 2012 for a relaxing 10 days after spending the new year in Sydney.
A short long tail boat ride (1hr) from Krabi mainland to the island of Koh poo /Jum. We were met at the pier by someone best described as Automan in his moped / sidecar. Not a word of english spoken but he knew exactly who we were & where we were going. We arrived at our resort what a delightful place, our bungalow was 30yds from the beach on stilts with no air con,we did have a fan in the room & a mosquito net over the bed. because there was no air-con the wildlife runs freely & enters the grounds of the resort. we woke early one morning to see a family of monkeys scouting the ground for the fallen fruits of the jungle trees, what a lovely thing to see. The food was fantastic, I had hoped I would lose a bit of weight but it was too good. The beach is the paradise that you dream of, crystal clear waters with an endless sandy beach.
The owners rented us their mopeds to venture the island, no strings attached aslong as you returned it with fuel they were happy.
The island itself was wonderful, watching the locals make rubber from he trees & transport it to the mainland Krabi to earn their living. A true place to relax & unwind, Phi phi island is also just an hour away, another beautiful place with lots to see.

Expect not to be met at the pier as promised but to be dropped on the main road by taxi and left to make your way up a long and severe incline in extreme heat, hauling your own bags and begging for help as the staff happily stands at the top of the hill, waving. “Can-not. No have.” If you are physically able to finally traverse the serpentine obstacle course, you will be delighted to discover that the property will not accept the credit card you used to book your bungalow. “Can-not. Boss no here.” You will immediately find your cash budget cut by half – because there is no ATM on the island. Drag your bags straight down slippery stone steps to one of the most expensive rooms and learn that not even a single bottle of water is provided. “No include.” Expect the same when you check out.
“No recommend.”

We spent three nights in a wonderful bungalow right by the beach. Having travelled around exploring the rest of the west side of Koh Po/Koh Jum we found that this place is located on one of the absolutely best and most beautiful beach strips of this island. As the name suggests, it is on top of a hill, so you'll have to climb some fairly steep steps to get up to the restaurant or to your bungalow (maybe not ideal for people with weak legs). Jungle Hill has the most lovely staff and the greatest food so we didn't really feel the need to go anywhere else for food. There are two small shops located on the other side of the hill, and they have motorbikes for hire, should you want to go out and explore the island's tiny villages or other places. You can also walk along the beach all the way to the southern tip if you feel like it.

I stayed in Jungle Hill with my child in 2014 and we entirely enjoyed both the quiet island and the bungalow. The property has different bungalows but we stayed in one of a very simple kind, and we were absolutely satisfied. The cold water shower was fully alright in the hot climate, and the semi-western style toilet was alright too. Differently from a number of other bungalows, Jungle Hill had electricity around the clock, so no problem to charge the mobile, laptop or camera.
The place is for you if you can accept wildlife both around and in your bungalow. If you look carefully, you may see wild monkeys hopping in the jungle. And even without looking at all, you may find lizards in the bathroom or spiders in the room. For us this was not a problem, and I am currently planning another stay.
The restaurant serves excellent food and has nice views to the sea. It is also nice to walk in the evening down the seaside to Southern beaches.

Stayed here for a week at end of green season (last half sept).
They organised a transfer from Krabi airport which was very smooth (its about 30 minutes to the pier, 30 minute crossing, about 10 minutes in a tuktuk to the place and a 5 minute walk from the road)
Its basic but the location is amazing. You are right on the beach. Rooms have hot shower and fan but no cupboards or drawers so its difficult to store your clothes. There's free wifi which worked most of the time. You can see Phi Phi from here.
You can organise a boat trip around Koh Jum or to Phi Phi (much cheaper from Koh Lanta though) and hire a scooter.
Food in the 'restaurant' is good - in low season best to order in the afternoon so they can go shopping for the ingredients.
Tang the owner speaks decent English but we didn't see her much. The lady in the kitchen seems to do all the work, her english is limited.
On the road, you can walk to a couple of places within 10/15 minutes but they were all closed in September. On the beach, Loma bar is only 2 minutes away and there are 2 more places you can walk to within 15 minutes.
Quite a lot of refuse washed up at the beach and its a bit rocky but there are some loungers and a couple of very rickety beach huts.
Mozzie net had plenty of holes so bring your own.

Jungle Hill is a group of rustic bungalows climbing a steep hillside on steps constructed before the invention of the tape measure. If you are terrified of insects or monkeys, or have any difficulty at all climbing stairs, this place is NOT for you!

The more expensive huts on high stilts closer to the beach enjoy decent privacy. The large cracks between the floorboards mean that you get a certain amount of flying insect flow, but there's a good mosquito net. Beds are a bit hard, but acceptable. There's a decent hammock on the porch, and the place is quiet and tranquil day and night. The fans are just adequate to cool the room at night. Food in the restaurant is good and varied. The green curry is especially good. There are a couple of other places to eat down the mostly-undeveloped beach.

The beach is brownish sand due to the proximity of some muddy river mouths on the mainland, and as a result, the visibility is poor in the water. Don't expect this to be a snorkeling destination! There is a tiny bit of immature patchy coral at the far end of the beach, but murky water and limited fish make it extremely unexciting.

Gangs of monkeys come through on a fairly regular basis, meaning you don't leave anything on your porch. In fact, a small monkey came into our bathroom (western-style, and clean- the bathroom, not the monkey)), and was getting ready to use my razor when I scared him off.

There's very little to do on Koh Jum. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to read a book, surf the net on their OK Wifi, swim on a somewhat rocky beach, watch the monkeys, eat decent Thai food, and enjoy a sunset, Jungle Hill is for you. Otherwise, not.

Is it worth getting an AC room?
Answer from RubioTallinn

Depends. :) I went to Ko Jum to write some chapters of a book. 30 C air contains a lot of humidity and probably some salt; it pretty much killed my laptop, a MacBook Pro. Video card and trackpad started misfiring. Otherwise, the fan lifestyle is nice and it is reasonably cool at night.
