Stayed in the lodge for two nights as part of our tour, the dirt road on the way up to the lodge finally put the Land Rover to a small challenge. We took off our hiking boots and put on the soft indoor shoes then we were escorted to our newly added suite on the 4th floor. Songtsam added the new wing last year and new suites even have floor heating and oxygen machine. The enclosed terrace can be fully open up to soak up the view. One great thing about Songtsam lodges is all their beddings are the same, so even when travel through different locations you will never need to learn a new bed. Lodge is on elevation 3,600m, and it's away from crowd which is fantastic to fully enjoy the sunrise view on the terrace of the lodge without a big crowd of tourists!

Great location, can view Meili snow mountain from room balcony. Highly recommend the private tour to Baima snow mountain. We went hiking for 8 hours it was fantastic—The best view I have ever seen! The staff are extremely friendly. Most staff are local people here and make good introduction of the history and culture.

They have an exclusive Baima snow mountain trekking tour. We took the long version (20km, 8hr day hike, at 3800~4200m altitude). The scene was breathtaking... It truly feels like what was described in the lost horizon. You walked in the forrest, and suddenly you came across a ranch. The 20km route consist of various views - forrest, creek, snow mountain, etc - simpy amazing Ci-ren-la-cuo is such a great guide. She took us to mushroom discovery and harvest (which became part of our dinner).

We spent 2 nights here as part of a Songtsam 8-night tour of North-West Yunnan. Getting here involves some amazing scenic roads, best handled by a professional driver allowing you to enjoy the views. The views from this hotel of the snowy Meili mountains are spectacular....when the clouds allow a peek for a few minutes! We were in heavy clouds both mornings and did not see the sunrise view. This place is HIGH, nearly 11,000 feet, and you will need to take that into account. We noticed that they do have oxygen available in case of emergencies. The meals here were fantastic and the quiet and serenity is great. The attentive staff are from the local community so you get a feel for some of the ethnic diversity of this region. A new addition is being built that will add ~35 new rooms. This location is remote and most tourists are Chinese. I presume that some key staff can speak English but I never heard any spoken there. If you are on a Yunnan or Tibet tour, this stop should be on you itinerary!…

We stayed at the Songstam Meili and had a great stay - spoilt for its views, food and location. The staff were incredibly kind and guided us up on a recommended trail, picking up my mother and young daughter at the end of the walk. The hotpot was delicious but have to say I probably have had enough Yak meat for a lifetime! The biggest treat though had to be waking up each morning to the views of the sun rising over the Meili mountains. A very special place.

Nestled in the midst of the mountains looking up to Kawagarbo, the lodge was one of the most memorable places to stay in. We took a 3 hour hike to see the surrounding vistas and were not disappointed. With the usual excellent service and local delicacies, truly a place a little closer to heaven.

Apparently the land where the hotel stands was this old man’s ancestral home. Now he is a tour guide/ butler/ all-around assistant in the property. Songtsam hotel group did well in integrating the local community in their hotel. That’s why all the staff is friendly and accommodating. Kid-friendly activities include: prayer flag making, an easy two-hour hike guided by Songtsam staff, and taking a road trip to the nearby Feilaisi viewing point. Unfortunately even if we had a room with a view, Meili Shan didn’t reveal itself to us. So I guess we’d just have to go back. 🙂

We had a great time on the Searching for Shangri-La tour this past summer. We had a hiccup and missed our connection into Shargri-La and the company very easily accommodated our change in plans. When we got there we met our guide and driver and they could not be more wonderful. He Liying (Amy) was very knowledgeable, extremely engaging, and her English language skills were stellar. I could not give a higher recommendation. The lodges are understated, luxurious, and peaceful. The views are so good I almost couldn't believe it. I felt totally comfortable the entire time I was at every one of the lodges. Their integration into the local communities is a delight--it doesn't feel like you're at a hotel in a secluded area, it feels like you're at home when there. They are opening some new lodges soon and I imagine we will return when we can explore even more of the area with the Songstam team.…

Would highly recommend this lodge though difficult to book as only 17 rooms! We took 3 hours drive from Shangri La. it's 40 minutes by car to Feilai Temple & viewing deck. Hotel service is top with alot of heart. Daily 4 meals are included & delicious. Rooms are simple but cosy & comfortable. Like most things in this region, transportation is expensive. So is local guided walks. We were unlucky with cloudy weather & could only see mid sections of Meili but not the peak. Still worth it to come. Hotel is 20 minutes away from Deqen town, which has not much to offer. Am also glad to be away from the crowded touristy hotels right next to the Feilai viewing deck. Great place to come for rest & quiet contemplation.

This was our 4th Songtsam Hotel so by now we were getting used to all that luxury! But nothing could prepare us for the magnificent view. Our room had a picture window overlooking the mountains and side window overlooking the hills. From the moment you arrive this place is perfection. Great welcome with ginger tea (great for the altitude but we also happened to have a pot of Vicks that warded off a stuffed up nose at night) Wonderful food, in fact they are always feeding you! I cannot recommend these places enough. Such a wonderful experience. Great surrounding area here as well. We went to the Glacier and did a walk over the high pass (gentle walk mind you - give the altitude!)
