A wonderful sense of community and a real down to earth environment. The Radio Station is something to see and you might even be lucky to contribute. Rooms were comfortable and relaxing, kitchen well equipped, but really you go here for the people. There is organic farm work going on which was great to learn about and explore. We had...

I would recommend Rongo to anyone looking for a great West Coast experience. The team can help with accommodation, food and transport. They went out of their way to help us with a transfer from Karamea to Takaka as part of our mountain biking trip.

The whole hostel is an art piece in itself with every inch of it being painted or decorated by one of their previous guests. The hostel also features a radio station and invite their guests to have their own show for a few minutes or even 5 hours. How cool is that! That features alone is worth driving the world's...

I was the resident yoga teacher for a few weeks in June and it was a nice secluded quirky place. The owners, Paul and Sanae are lovely! This hostel is definitely unique because there is a yoga studio attached, and there are cheap ($5) classes in the evening and the night. Tristian and Brian are the two managers, and they...

In between tramps in the middle of winter 10 ATC members made a great choice to stay at Rongos for a night and to use their efficient track end shuttle services (under the name of Karamea Connections). Another great choice was the Heaphy Conquerors Feast - a sumptuous 3 course meal to suit all preferences. A special place to stay...

Thoroughly recommend Rongo Backpackers, lovely old building with heaps of character. Right in the centre of Karamea easy walk to the pub. We had a very relaxing evening sitting beside the fire pit listening to the DJ running the local radio station from the shed at the back of the property. Refreshingly different from the usual places we stay and...

This place is truly inspirational!
