This is a budget hotel with excellent rooms, great facilities, good location, and friedly staff. The rooms are (almost, with the exception of disabled option) identical. Good shower, comfy bed, great wifi. The spa area is perfect for pot ski relaxation. The breakfast (you cook your own eggs!) is excellent and buffet style. There is a 500m walk to the Kaltenbach gondola, so I'd recommend using the locker service at the gondola station (80 euros for the week for a two person locker). This meant that the short walk back out of ski boots was much easier. The hotel is opposite the train station so access to other ski areas is possible too. All in all, for the money a great value location.
We loved our stay at the E xplorer Hotel Zilleftal. Perfectly situated, very friendly and helpful staff, and ideal location for skiing. We loved the breakfasts and the staff recommended the most amazing restaurants for dinner. Only discovered the spa at the end of the holiday-it’s awesome. Rooms are small, but very well laid out with everything you need. Will certainly be back.
Pro's: Location across from railway station Kaltenbach and within walking distance to ski lifts (10 minutes). Practical and modern rooms. Friendly staff. Early check-in and late check-out were possible against a small fee per person (upon availability). Cons: The hotel staff were very strict in adhering to the terms and conditions of my reservations and they showed close to no flexibility when I requested to make some small changes, more than one month before arrival. When I asked to change the number of guests per room the rate would increase dramatically. The responses I received lacked a sense of pragmatism and hospitality and they did not make me feel as welcome as I would have hoped.
Great hotel, very friendly and helpful staff in perfect skiing location in Kaltenbach. Rooms were clean with lots of storage space, good breakfast and overall very fair prices. Highly recommended hotel - we will visit again next year!
We were a party of 6 friends staying in Kaltenbach for a long weekend on the slopes of Zillertal. The Explorer hotel suited us perfectly, located just a 5-minute walk from the main cable car. All the staff were super-friendly, the rooms were modern and clean, and the breakfast was superb. A bright and cheerful hotel with the added bonus of an in-house spa to relax in at the end of the day. The only disappointments were the absence of body soap and shampoo in the shower, and the lack of complimentary tea & coffee outside of breakfast time.
On the way to Germany, we had to stop for the night and we found out a very nice place for spending the winter holidays...or hiking in summer for who likes...Simple, clean, large room and modern style
Very Nice design, very friendly staff, Delicious Breakfast, We were impresed about room decoration, well ubicated hotel. Area is very Nice for outdoor aktivities, even summer skiing. We Will sure comeback.
Our family of four stayed here over Christmas for four nights. Due to the size of the rooms we required two, which wasn’t a problem but they were on the bottom and top floors which was the only negative of our stay. However, the rooms were super clean and quite comfortable. And we able to open the windows to get some fresh winter air. The breakfast was very good, with a selection of cereals, fruits and yoghurt. There was also a station to cook eggs yourself - which the kids enjoyed doing. Boiled, scrambled, fried etc..... A large selection of breads and some pastries, however being Australian we missed not having a toaster to toast the bread. Tea and coffee machine and juices also provided. My husband enjoyed using the fitness room before breakfast each morning. We were able to store our bags in the ski lockers in reception before check in. Downstairs - in the same building - is a ski hire shop. We hired from here and the gear was great. They also offered a discount to hotel guests. There is also two large screens in the bar/restaurant area that are interactive and displays information for the day ahead. These were great as everyone would stand around checking out the weather and then share with each other the conditions they found on the various mountains the day before, share tips of where to ski etc etc. There was a great vibe! There is an Italian restaurant/bar next door which is great food and was also busy. The train stop is just across the road and we easily walked to the Hoch Zillertal lifts in ski boots. We were also able to walk to a number of other restaurants in town. We were very pleased with our stay here and would happily recommend the Explorer.…
We loved everything about this new style hotel, the room and bed were very comfortable, there was plenty of storage space, great spa area on the roof, staff friendly, breakfast choice was excellent, it was clean and efficiently run. Also top marks for their individual and heated ski lockers.
Clean hotel, well located for skiing and other sports and a good enough breakfast. Nice spa for free. Decent room with comfortable beds and a nice bathroom, but no more than one small chair to sit. In the lounge are plenty of barstools and dining tables, but no comfortable chairs or loungeset to hang out after a long day of skiing. There are some chairs, but these are far from comfortable and not at all inviting (and no, I am not very picky). So after diner - elsewhere - you kind of have to retreat to your room and hang out on your bed. Thats a pity.
