The hostel gives you choice of rooms but also cabins if you a group and would like more privacy. I was there several times as I hired a fishing boat from owner for daily fishing trips. It is a great base for trips to Lofoten Islands as it is roughly in the middle.

This charming little collection of rorbuer (traditional Norwegian coastal homes) has been turned into a hotel by a quirky old man named Roar. He runs the place by himself and can be found roving the grounds throughout the day and night, tending to this or that. The atmosphere here is one of community because, whether you spend your day at...

We have stayed at the hostel several times and found Roar to be welcoming and extremely knowledgeable and resourceful. The hostel is well laid out and kept to a high standard without losing its historic character. The hostel is built on a wooden pier and therefore superb sea views and the sound of the waves lapping under your bed ensures a...

We had good time there but too bad for the final day that leaves us a bitter memory. We used the row boats and we did not hand in the hooks immediately when we came back. We left them on the table outside as Roar, the owner, was away. As we did not give it in his hands he didn't...

We stayed here on a touring cycle trip from Svolvaer to A. Location is great, on the harbour with views over it and up the stunning hills behind - there is a clear path up for amazing views over Stamsund. Authentic old Rorbu, full of character. (As is Roar, the proprietor) Food shop 100m away at the garage to buy...

Really enjoyed our stay here on the waters edge in Roar's hostel. He's an interesting genuine character and speaks many languages. The hostel is rustic in an interesting way eg the original cooker range and simple wooden doors. We met many friendly nationalities here, there was a fab communal atmosphere. Local store close by and car hire too. Hiking route...

Roar loves to meet real travellers but has little sympathy with tourists who complain when they are out of their comfort zone. He treats his guests like family and is probably a very good undercover pshysiciatrist and therapist! Hearing his account of conditions on the Lofotens during ww2 and during the Cold War was fascinating. I can only hope to...

Dont expect much, but use this option if you are out of others. We arrived late with Hurtigruta and host Roar met us as agreed. The hostel offers common kitchen, shower and toilet. 6 pax dorms or cabins. Located a short walk from the Hurtigruta dock, Lofoten Rent-a-Car is 50 meters away!

I read about this place out of an Israelis backpackers' blog in Norway. It was obvious from their experience that Stamsund Hostel is one of the places not to be missed in north of Norway. I loved it and I do hope to be back soon. you get a home kind of feeling when you are there. I have met...
