By coincidence (after a major motobike break down) we found L'Orto di BaLu late night. We could park our bikes in their garage and were welcomed with warm hearted hospitality. The whole place is maintained with love which can be seen in so many details like the blooming garden with its kiwis and so much more. Most of all we will remember the good talks we had with our hosts and of course the wonderful Italian breakfast - thanks for the good time, it was one of the highlights of our trip!
We stayed at B&B L’orto di BaLù for two days and I would definitely recommend this place. The owner, Barbara and Luca were kind and helpful. We loved our room "Lavanda", which was spacious with an amazing view of the valley (Valle Camonica) and the small town, Bienno. We could store our bicycles in a secure place in their garage and we has a super breakfast prepared with the organic products from the their farm. The owners (both cyclists) were very helpful also for the route planning for our bike tour in the valley.
Serenity is seeing the rising sun paint pink the granite tops of the surrounding mountains from the quiet of your room or terrace at the lovely retreat of Barbara and Luca. The accommodation is excellent country comfort with large room, bathroom, terrace. There were many thoughtful touches such as coming "home" to fresh fruit, homemade biscuits and organic toiletries. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious with home baked cakes and fresh produce from their hillside garden. The B & B is high on a hill overlooking the valley and the charming medieval town of Bienno which also has an ancient past, and a couple of good restaurants. A climb further up the hill to visit sweet Melissa, the rescued donkey is a treat. There are many historic sites in the valley and beautiful Lake Iseo is a fairly short drive away. Barbara and Luca are exceptionally kind hosts who went to extraordinary lengths to ensure an older Australian woman traveling alone had a safe, happy, memorable one week stay. L'Orto di BaLu means the "The kitchen garden of Barbara and Luca" I would add the adjective "Heavenly."…
We were very impressed by the gardens, delicious cakes and a gorgeous interiors. Their strong organic approach runs throughout the stay. Very friendly, knowledgable and lovely hosts (Barbara and Luca) with excellent English.
Oh, what a lovely place this was!! A magical time I had here in Bienno. Lucca and Barbra are some of the nicest people on the planet. They were so kind and welcoming. They took us to one of their favorite restaurants and even made us a special local dish for breakfast on the day we left! They gave us a little parting gift of some lovely soap. Also, trust me: BUY THE HONEY.
