Don’t the let the tired exterior detract you from a visit. Menu is extensive and of high quality - salads, burgers, curry all excellent. Good kids menu. Good selection of beers. Catered for a family lunch of 7. Good COVID protocols in place. Friendly and professional staff.

We have been staying here for over twenty years. This recent one will be our last. Having watched the hotel start out as a comfortable, stylish boutique type hotel, it has become more and more neglected over time and it has had its last chance with us. On arrival at a usual check in time for guests we had to search for someone to help us. The guy behind the bar, who we assume was the manager, then reluctantly came out to give us the key to our room. We felt as if we had disturbed him and there were no pleasant welcomes. Our room was tatty and tired, and the hot water tap didn't work properly letting out only a dribble and the top coming off if you turned it too far. There were no tea or coffee making facilities and we we were told this was because of covid restrictions - it didn't seem to be problem in any other of the other hotels we stayed in. They simply required us to wash out our own cups. The mattresses on the beds were rock hard. At breakfast the first morning there was no porridge, no muesli, and no fresh fruit; a far fling from the breakfasts which were once served here. The food at dinner was probably the most satisfactory part except that the young staff, who did their best to serve efficiently were run off their feet, and not supervised properly. There were also very few, if any, healthy options on the menu. Sadly we will need to find somewhere else next year for our annual visit and reunion in Achnamara. It is just is not worth the money.

Initial impression’s last!! I walked through the front door”NAME PLEASE” from the Gent behind reception who blurted his line out without even looking up! Here we go? (I thought)!! “ WHEN DO YOU WANT TO EAT?” Eating out wasn’t an option it seems? I had to eat in the hotel according to this guy!! There was no” will you be dining with us this evening Sir?? “ A quick look around on my way to my room I thought it’s a bit old fashioned but for one night it’ll do. On opening the room door I was greeted with the smell of dampness the room whilst a bit tatty looked clean but there was no escaping the damp smell!! Backed up with the small dehumidifier on the window sill! Dinner time! I entered the bar and was told by the reception/bar man sit there please I was then brought a menu and served a drink by a nervous looking waiter. I was then forgotten about for half an hour. Yes I could have grabbed their attention however I wanted to see just how long it would take. The saving grace and the reason for the second star was the food was delicious so my compliments to the Chef. However, this hotel needs a substantial makeover starting with the rooms. The staff need Customer service training. I get the hotel business has had a tough time with Covid-19 however courtesy costs nothing. I suspect though that a refurb may cost thousands though. As I said at the start First Impressions last and if I had been treated like a valued customer from the get-go I may have looked passed the other stuff? I can’t see me returning to this hotel anytime soon👎

This hotel has to be one of the worst I have had the misfortune to stay at. Cold and unwelcoming with a very tired and dated interior. The room was shocking with holes in the wall, a smell of damp and a very uncomfortable bed. With a velux roof window and a side window with a view over a roof only added to the dowdiness. Breakfast was tasteless but plentiful although the service was unattentive. Whilst I note many great reviews for this hotel I can only surmise some people are easily pleased. The 3 stars it has are extremely generous but perhaps on its next review this will be amended. On checkout again unwelcoming we weren’t asked if we enjoyed our stay and perhaps this is a policy to avoid criticisms? Thankfully we only had to endure its austerity for 2 nights and would certainly look elsewhere if we ever go back to this area.

We checked out this morning after a two night stay and quite literally the biggest dump I’ve ever stayed in for two nights, on check in we even checked ALL hotels & B&Bs around and the entire town was full for miles as we were going to pay and check out and find another hotel for two nights as it was so disgustingly bad! It wasn’t just our bedroom that was tired looking and looked like a youth hostel, the entire hotel was rancid, all public areas were tired looking and very dated! We were in bedroom number 10 and walking up the staircase to the bedroom it’s the worst damp smell I’ve ever smelt. In the bedroom at the window was the biggest smashed in hole where someone had obviously punched the wall and it hadn’t even been rectified for the guests checking in, the bedroom chairs were very dirty and smelt awful, I put a suitcase on them and never even sat on them. Stay away and find another hotel to stay in, this really is the pits! The staff were very lacking in any customer facing rolls and didn’t seem to care in their roles either. On the plus side the breakfast was very good that I had. Please see the video and photos (they don’t lie)
