I had to be allocated 3 different rooms on check in, sadly the first 2 rooms were not made up, the 3rd one was okish, going up & down stairs with luggage after 12 hours on a plane is not something you really want to faced with. Had to move rooms, again, next day as amongst other things the shower water hit the ceiling & flooded the bathroom. Breakfast was fine, apparently the spa was open but you never would have known. Have stayed at this hotel a number of times but sadly think this was the last time.

This is a nice hotel, but I visited after the peak season and it was very quiet. Too quiet, in fact. I would estimate that fewer than 20% of the rooms were occupied when I was there. The breakfast restaurant was open, but not the lunch and dinner restaurant. During the weekend, when they had more guests, there was a lovely breakfast buffet with local specialties. I enjoyed the stewed pumpkin atop my pancakes. During the week, there were fewer guests and breakfast was only a la carte. For dinner, there are two restaurants at the neighboring resort you can walk to. They are near the beach, which means that after dinner, you have to walk up five flights of stairs to get back to your room. The spa is only open if you have an appointment. When I appeared for my massage appointment, I found the door locked. I had to return to reception and wait until the masseur got there and opened up. The message itself was lovely. My room was spacious and had a nice view from the balcony. My complaints are about the bathroom. There is no place in the shower to rest the body wash and shampoo bottles. They also ran out of hand towels. I had to use a bath towel to dry my hands.

Originally we stayed here for our Honeymoon 18 years ago, so we decide to return this year. But what a difference 18 year has made. The main restaurant is now closed in the evening, this did expetional food 18 years back but the replacement is at best OK, eatable but a limited choice (in the evening two options), Breakfast is either Al a Carte or buffet. The al a carte is good but the buffet is limited. Staffing levels are currently low, so low that the swim up bar advertised is closed. The staff are pleasant and friendly but most are young and inexperienced. Generally the site is in need of maintenance, in 18 years it looks like nothing has been changed but it needs it. The toilet and shower facilities around the pool are disgusting and the showers don't work, the staff are aware and it has been like this for sometime. The main bar air conditioning is ineffective, and noisy so not a nice place when hot or humid. The Spa doesn't look to be open but is, its at the bottom of a dark looking stairwell with chairs on the middle landing which feel like they are saying go no further. The rooms are in need of a refresh as the furniture is tired. The bathroom has recently been renovated but to a cheap level, with old fittings being reused. The doors to the balcony need replacing they have a make shift lock installled which again looks cheap. Wi-Fi is generally good, although the wi-fi in our room was non-existant. Other guests had good wi-fi but they were all in a different block to us. If you want good wi-fi in the room request a room in the block next to reception. We booked on the all inclusive rate, although there were problems with that. The all inclusive only covers the main site, not the beach bar. Which is a let down as the food in the beach bar is better than on the main site, this needs to be rethought. The most annoying thing is you have to sign for everything against your room even if you are on the all inclusive package. 18 years ago the hotel was exclusively all inclusive and adult only, it offered entertainment in the evenings. Now it is mainly bed and breakfast, no entertainment, nothing to encourage the patrons to stay at the resort. Some of this might be COVID related like staff levels. But the state of the hotel looks like it has been on a downward slide for at least 10 years, I advise them to look to their history and find what works. AND RECEPTION, Tell guest about the Trutle watch as Guests love this, but no one tells you about it.

I make a complaint and was told the manager is not there and they can’t view the camera. Owner not in the country. I was very upset 😢. Not a good place to be in.

Le Grand Courlan On 2nd March at 16.26, after having looked at numerous hotels in Tobago, I rang Le Grand to check out the accessibility of the property. The hotel details stated that there was Wheelchair Accessible Path of Travel. (This information has since been removed from your site and Expedia and I will explain this later.) On 2nd March at 16.54 I booked through Hotels.com, a Deluxe Ocean View with King Size Bed. Under Room Requests, we explained we needed a room with wheelchair access as had been explained when I’d phoned them. On 3rd March, I requested Airport transfer by email and they replied that this had been arranged. This did not happen 17th March. Arrived at Le Grand Courlan by airport taxi as our Airport Transfer was not there to meet us. We waited a short while before using one of the airport taxis. When we arrived, to our dismay, there were two steps to the reception area, so no ramp for the scooter. The receptionist, Kashera, took absolutely ages to register us. She then gave me paperwork stating 2 beds and I informed her that we had booked a Deluxe Ocean View room with a King size bed. She did not have one she said!! She gave us a room that had a Queen bed and another bed. We didn’t seem to have any choice but to accept it. We were taken to our room and immediately we had a problem because of a large step to our room so I would have to lift the scooter in and out of the room each time we left. The first room we passed had a built ramp into the room but appeared to be the only one. That’s what we had requested. Remembering that our body clocks were 4 hours different, we were hungry and thirsty so we decided to visit the bar for a drink. We lifted the scooter out of our room and were able to access the ramp going down to the swimming pool which we did. There was another ramp going up to the bar but guess what, yet another step! My husband had to get off his scooter, I had to lift it up and into the bar we went. We had to wake up the bar person, yes, wake her up!! We managed to get served a drink and asked about food. It apparently could be delivered to the bar; what good news we thought. We ordered but then I had to go back up to reception to pay so the order could be processed. This I did. It was only Chicken & Chips but after 2 hours it hadn’t arrived. Our body clocks said the time was about 12pm or 1pm so we told them to cancel the order, I went back up to reception to get my refund. I returned to the bar, had to help my husband negotiate stairs to the toilets then we decided to head back to our room. Down the first ramp from the bar, off the scooter, lift the scooter down the step, then on again to the long ramp from the pool to reception level. The ramp is so steep that we couldn’t get the scooter up there, my husband had to hobble up there, I had to push the scooter and thought I was going to have heart failure by the time I got there. Kadesha will remember all this as I was crying to her whilst trying to recover. We returned to our room, lifting the scooter into the room. I told her we wouldn’t be able to stay and that maybe we should move next door to The Grafton. She said to speak to the manager in the morning and she would leave a note for her. I then realised we needed water so I went back to the bar and was charged TTD37 for a large bottle of water. When I later purchased a bottle from a shop at TTD7, you will realise how overcharged the hotel water was. The following morning, we went to breakfast and that was fine. There was even a ramp down into the restaurant. It’s called the Pinnacle Restaurant and the relevant websites advertise that it is for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. It is not – it is only open for breakfast. Other mentions and photos of various website:- Breezes bar serves food and/or snacks – NOT TRUE Spa – CLOSED – they say you can do appointment only but it’s depressing Gym – OLD, DIRTY & CLOSED UP Hairdresser – NOT AVAILABLE Shop – CLOSED BUT YOU CAN GO TO RECEPTION Swim Up Pool Bar – NOT OPEN AND HASN’T BEEN FOR A WHILE Sun Loungers – NO MATTRESSES The Pool – NO SHADE, NO SERVICE Restaurants – 3 mentioned, only Waves down on the beach does lunch & dinner As a matter of interest, of the 79 rooms in the hotel, we understand from the receptionist that less than 10 were booked. The hotel had no feeling, no ambience, no chat, no interaction with anyone as it was so deserted. It was depressing. After breakfast, I decided that I’d better check out the sister hotel of The Grafton before we made the move there as it might have been no better. I took a walk up and down many steps to look at accessible rooms and made my way to reception. We discussed that I would be seeing the joint manager and a room was suggested which I was then shown. I returned to Le Grand Courlan and met with the manager, Ms. George. I explained the fact that there was no Wheelchair accessible paths of travel, every thing ended in steps. She said we could move next door and they would assist with this after we’d had our breakfast, which she did. The following part of this message is in a review of The Grafton I have lots of photos if anyone might be interested

Please please please don’t waste your time or money. We booked for a 2 week stay It was so bad we left the hotel after 3 days and went to another hotel. Alot of dirty areas in and around the hotel, miserable staff hardly any other visitors. No umbrellas around the pool so you have to sit directly in the sun. No pool bar although it is advertised as having one. The gym it covered on mould. The spa was never open and smelt like an old damp gym towel.

Overpriced. The hotel is a shadow of its former self, with very few clients. Service leaves a lot to be desired, particul Were not able to repair Wifi over a 4 day stay and could only offer 1 beach towel for 4 people. Very limited breakfast.

I stayed in a deluxe ocean view room and enjoyed the gorgeous view on the balcony every morning whilst catching up on emails! (best place for the wifi!). The highlight of the stay was dinner at Waves down on the seafront - really lovely atmosphere and decor, so good to be sitting out side feeling the breeze on a December evening. I didn't have time to use it, but the spa looked amazing, with really extensive facilities. The gym is huge too.

Only about 6 guests in this massive Resort Hotel made up of two earlier hotels in one of which - the Grafton Beach Resort - we spent our honeymoon in 1991. Le Grand Courlan (what does it mean? Is it a bird? Who can remember such a name?) has a vast swimming pool but no working dining room (we walk down to Waves, which is always good beachside value, and after breakfast and dinner struggle up the steps and long walkways back to our excellent room). Weird! Toles yes but no cushions for the poolside deckchairs. No-one at Reception but they come when you ring a bell. Hardly anyone working here and even fewer guests!

My partner an I spent four nights at Le Gran Courlan. We stayed in Suite#2 The TV was not working., after a solid hour of trying the Manager swapped out the TV in the living room. The phone did not work the whole time we were there, which means you needed to walk out to the front desk every time you needed anything. There is really too much to report about this property. The bedskirts llooked liked they have never been washed. To get to breakfast is another story up the stairs then down the stairs then up the stairs good god I can't believe i paid for this. The help is amazing though but it's not fair to them because they have nothing to work with. I will never visit or recommend this Resort to anyone. ........SAD JUST SAD
