We spent four nights in a deluxe room which was lovely, a huge bed, spacious, great bathroom and a relaxed patio area. The hotel outdoor pool is a key feature, a wonder to look at, and a joy to swim in heated by solar panels. The spa building is really gorgeous, wood panelled, quiet, relaxing, a good gym and stretch area upstairs. On the ground floor are the treatment rooms and two lovely pools where you can swim from inside to outside. The restaurant served an extensive breakfast which was good. The downside was the evening and day menu was limited and very expensive for the quality delivered. Staff service in the restaurant was patchy.

Two things to note, children are allowed here, which may detract from the sense of well-being. The rooms are not the best for soundproofing. There are tv's mounted on the walls and if like us you have a selfish person next door watching TV loudly at night it will disturb you. We raised this with reception but it took them two days before they asked our neighbours to keep the noise level down! This was irritating.

We have been on several occasions and it continues to improve with some details. The pool is excellent and has greatly improved its management, thanks, among others, to the Philippe function. The gym and spa are fantastic. Breakfast is fine but, in a hotel of this category and price, it could be better, with a good selection of cheeses and cold cuts, for example. Of note, the work of Maria João in the room. You breathe tranquility throughout the day, the rooms are very complete (although in ours you miss a full length mirror) and the beds absolutely stunning. To add something negative, the absurd prices of any activity not included, bike rental, shuttle to the beach, yoga,... I think they would have much more acceptance if adjusted a little more.

Hotel Quinta de Comporta is located within walking distance of the small town of Comporta. The beach is easily accessible by walking or riding one of the hotel bikes that are available. Rooms are spacious, clean and great for families and couples traveling together. Pool gorgeous and spa provided great services. Staff helpful and food was great. Breakfast buffet was huge, but you also can order off the menu. Situated off of a rice field may seem odd, but it is quiet with wildlife to watch. Fun to have cocktails on the massive porch to view incredible sunsets.

The grounds and rooms are beautiful, styled in the familiar Comporta design. I travelled with a group and we stayed in a mix of rooms & one villa. This was my second stay (once during off season so I decided to give it another chance). Normally prefer to provide feedback directly to a hotel but no one responded to my email sent in April, even though I was booked to return in June.

TLDR: just stay at Sublime down the road for impeccable service & consistently good food at a similar price point.

As noted in several other reviews, the food is mediocre at best (including breakfast), with better options nearby (5Sentidos next door or restaurants in Comporta village). The service is offensively poor for a SLH property, including overall speed to achieve anything from coffee to a query response and lack of personalisation or any proactive effort to ensure a pleasant/comfortable experience. Daily cleaning service was little more than making the bed; we even needed to request towels and toilet paper! There was no turn down service and on arrival, a very sad packet of sliced cheese & turkey ham was provided as a welcome charcuterie board for the villa, which is their highest category stay offering.

For a wellness resort, there are only a handful of yoga/pilates classes offered during the week (at a cost) and a detox juice at breakfast. The gym is small but efficient; note that given the design, it gets very warm. The instructor actually never showed up for the private group yoga class I scheduled. Upside, the spa treatments were nice and the pool is lovely.

Perhaps a small thing but also a bit shameful that every amenity comes at a cost: want a coffee 20 minutes after breakfast ends, a golf cart ride to the beach or to use one of the bikes? Expect to find it on your bill.

Disappointing stays for such a promising property. At no point did I feel welcomed or like the staff even cared about my experience, would not return.

Photos of restaurant and view from villa.

Valet staff is best part about this hotel. Loved these guys. Nobody else on the property knows what they’re doing or how to operate a luxury hotel especially the a*%hole French manager. This man actually yelled at me (shouting and interrupting to repeatedly argue, yet beginning each statement with “Madame,…” as if that made it alright). We found out quickly why they process payment in full for your entire stay at time of check in. That happens after you are escorted to a room where no one even acknowledges your presence and you wait while the clueless front desk staff finishes whatever they are doing. They won’t be able to find your reservation or identify who you are or why you are there either. So they take your credit card and then literally walk outside and hold the machine in the air in order to get better Wi-Fi reception and process your entire stay. Once you see the sub-par, mildew stinking, deteriorating rooms which are all walled-in with concrete partitions in the manner of a prison, you would RUN away from this place if you hadn’t already paid.

Food is low quality cafeteria level garbage. Dining occurs in weird shifts that you have to adhere to or miss a meal. If you make the shift, you receive below par service at the host and in dining room. The entire staff is confused immature inexperienced and unprofessional. And unlike the rest of Portugal, they do not try to compensate with manners or kindness.

As for the rooms and common spaces, mildew everywhere, massive potholes all over the brick patio around the pool, stains on furnishings…just gross.
Such a long way to travel to be so utterly disappointed. If this hotel is five star then I look exactly like my Lensa AI Avatar

We stayed for 4 nights at Quinta da Comporta in room 4B.
The resort is beautifully located with rice fields visible from the restaurant terrace and includes a nice spa club.
The room was very spacious and well designed, the bed extremely comfortable and the terrace very nice.
The bathroom was large with private shower, private toilet, bath tube and 2 sinks.
The toiletries were numerous.
The mini bar was included in the price.
Spa massages were quite good.
The restaurant food was somehow improvised and not what we expected from a 5 star resort.
The service was good.
There is an outdoor swimming pool, even though there are quite a few children (ages between 0 - 11 years old).

The place looks good but it has no soul. I feels really impersonal - it suggests it is a wellness centre they just offer a yoga class free which for us was cancelled at 8pm the night before! They suggest free bikes, but actually didn't have enough bikes and we had to wait an hour.
the room cleaning is definitely not to standard and hairs from previous guests were left in the bathroom, crockery and glasses not cleaned properly
music around the pool and restaurant are appalling
the staff don't seem to remember who guests are even when not full to capacity
really not worth the money - shame as the place has potential but I can imagine will become a cheap run down package hotel soon...

This was the second year on the row at the same hotel but a lot of bad surprises due to the lack of high standard and high class hotel management.
To start, we booked both bedrooms quite yearly and asked for a specific room orientation. This small request, done quite in advanced (4 months prior) was not done at the check in. No apologies were given either for their error or an explanation.
There was a general feeling of a lack of head managers in each department (front desk, restaurant either breakfast or dinner service, housekeeping).
We asked front desk, prior our arrival, for reservations in other restaurants outside the hotel. They were still trying to book at the time we arrived, and when they did, reservations were only done for a party of two, instead of four, that was we have asked before (we had given both room numbers, even if they didn't understand the 4 person request, the number of rooms should have been sufficient to understand).
As for the rooms, one of the beds had two huge and very noticeable stains in the top and bottom sheets when we did the check in. It is surprising housekeeping for a high standard hotel prepared the bed with sheets like those, but also that the room was not thoroughly seen by a housekeeper manager before letting us in. Another sheet had also a very noticeable hole on the side, we were already tired so we did not complain, but it was the sheets were not changed for the whole 10 day stay.
We can't say that the staff was not nice, but the lack of good managing was very apparent. At breakfast and dinner service after the main course, staff would disappear, or take to long for other requests, and we would be served by different people at the same service, because the ones starting with us would be serving the other side of the huge restaurant (giving evidence to the lack of management).
There were other simple requests that were not complied, as simple as saying that one of the dinners in the hotel was a birthday dinner, and having nothing prepared, not even a happy birthday on the desert we asked for. This request was done with the hotel reservation back in march, and because of previous surprises, we confirmed the day in particular with the front desk, at the restaurant with the restaurant hostess, and no one did anything until we asked the server. Very disappointing!
To add to these situations, we saw the head manager of the hotel criticizing twice, in front of us and other guests, quite rudely and with a lack of class his own employees. In all these situations there was never an explanation or an approach by the head manager to assure us and apologize that they understood all the mistakes and mishaps from their part and that they would try to fix for the better. It was just mistake after mistake in what should be a carefree vacation in a high standard hotel.
The hotel location is great and the scenery too, but for the price you pay, the service should correspond to a premium service. It is a pity such a beautiful hotel, so unique in Portugal has so many big problems in terms of management.

We are not supportive of negativity which sadly often dominates the review space, nor are we regular reviewers. We are much more persons of celebration. Let’s thus start with celebration. The restaurant staff, back then lead by Philippe, has been absolutely amazing throughout our stay, the property and facilities were stunning, the hotel staff in general tried their best ( despite a clear lack of luxury hospitality experience ) and even the weather was amazing for Christmas!

That is where the celebration ends; the only conclusion I can have based on what I have had to experience is that the administration and management are below any standard one would deem appropriate in hospitality; let alone luxury hospitality, going further in even questioning their integrity and the values they go by.

It started during the booking with repeated 600+ eur mistakes in the offers in favour of the hotel, against their own published rates, then the uniquely available booked room given to someone else because it took the reservations department 24+ h to reply to a confirmation mail I sent out 8 minutes after receiving the last ‘correct’ offer. It all ended with double invoicing of certain dinners on check out. Apologies from the front staff upon our verification of the invoice ( which we rarely do ) and realisation thereof but no capacity to correct it on the spot: we’re thus asked to trust that the payment would be corrected the next day upon return of the admin team. So far annoyances but no big deal, we’re patient, trusting and had an overall good experience thanks to the operational staff.

We are now 6 months later, without exagération 10 very patient and supportive mails asking for their follow-up, knowing that it is a complex business to be in, even more with Covid restrictions at the time. Not a single reply to any of the mails. Tens of kind calls reexplaining the situation to what seemed to be a new staff member on every occasion, each time with very ‘sincere’, often ashamed apologies and the formal promise the manager would call back the same or the next day. Nothing, not a single follow-up, not a single reply to the calls either, and of course no reimbursement.

This practice is beyond my understanding and given how many times we reached out, remaining kind and understanding, yet frustrated and disrespected, I can only but wonder if this is done purposefully and with ill intent? I would have loved to recommend the place and hate to punish all the great people we’ve met and who may still work there, but regretfully it is an absolute and unbiased 0 for us.

My review is just for the Wellness part.
5 stars for the location, the spririt, the architecture and the staff
But in the swimming pool the water jet were out of order. The shower in the clockroom had just cold water.
i hope for the guest that for the Summer period eveything will be fixed
Massages are quite expensive compares to prices in France for example.
