Every morning the macaws, mostly scarlet & yellow, fly overhead on their way to the coast, and each evening they return, occasionally stopping to perch in the trees around the property where many other birds with sweet songs can be seen & heard. No tv here, just clean, comfortable & quiet rooms. The pool is cleaned every day, and the... More

We saw macaws fly over this lodge last year. This year we watched a whole resplendent family having their breakfast. We watched families of howler monkeys dancing through the trees round the pool, humming birds supping nectar, blue tanagers, red-winged blackbirds on the feeders. We loved again the bathrooms open to the sky, the mango forest, the fabulous gardens. The... More

Room was comfortable, open bathroom allowed some small creatures to enjoy your company while showering :-) We only ate there for breakfast (that was included). The food is good but basic: scrambled eggs, pancakes, rice with beans, cereals. Being a birdwatcher, I was a bit disappointed, the number of birds were not as great as I expected. We can sure... We went here primarily to see scarlet macaws. At first we were told that they might not be around during the rainy season, but on the advice of the concierge we drove 3 km down a nearby road. On the way scarlet macaws dropped nuts and twigs on our car, and then perched in a nearby tree for breakfast, where... More

The room was clean and spacious but the air conditioning hadn't been turned on, the windows were closed and it was like an oven. My wife took one look at the outdoor toilet and decided the place was a dump. She revised her opinion slightly later but was still unhappy about a cold shower (if there was meant to be... More

Cerro Lodge is perched on a hill, giving nice territorial and sunset views. Scarlet Macaws often fly in for breakfast in some of the tall trees. Since our last visit, AC has been added to the cabins, which helps a lot, as it can be very hot. We enjoyed the outdoor bathroom. Meals were good, with lots of fresh vegetables.... More

This was our second stay and well worth it. They added air conditioning which was necessary given the high 30s temperatures. The open-air bathroom/shower (screened) is wonderful. The pool is also nice. The food was good. While we were there most meals were off of a small menu, only one or two buffets. Full meals with soup, salad, entree, vegetables,... More

1) The room: was beautiful. Found the bed very very hard. One of our worst to sleep on. 2) The food: we only stayed 2 nights but had breakfasts there, which were fine, and 2 suppers which were delicious! And lots of it! 3) The area: we were unable to walk around and "bird" so I was a bit disappointed... More

The Cabana was more or less what I expected, although nylon sheets in Costa Rica was a bit of a surprise, I did feel there was a lack of privacy, as our screened outdoor toilet was on the join of main walkways. I was quite happy to share the loo with the green glassfrog that joined us there in the... More

We were attracted to Cerro Lodge by the very positive Trip Advisor comments and the claims made on their web-site with specific regard to the proximity of Carara National Park and the abundant birdlife in the grounds. This was the last lodge on a three week stay in Costa Rica and we had decided not to hire a vehicle for... More
