Could not fault Stella Island one bit. Had the best 5 days. Rooms where beautiful and always clean with the best products, Elemis. Beautiful hotel threw out. When we went weather wasn’t it’s best but was still beautiful and enjoyed every minute. Cocktails where our standing. The staff completely made the place. They would have a drink with u learn your names and nothing was to much. They where fantastic all. If you visit this place please ask for skinos. Overall place was outstanding and highly recommend.

What makes this place so wonderful are the people that work there. They excel at customer service! We speak from personal experience when we say that the Concierge/Receptionist, Eleni Ximeri is the best we've ever encountered in our travels. She went out of her way to make us comfortable and happy and always with a smile. The service manager, Anastasia, is very warm and friendly and approachable. She made our stay here an amazing experience. We would absolutely recommend staying here. The restaurants on the property are varied in atmosphere and so is the cuisine which would rival any Michelin Star Restaurant. We stayed 5 days and had a different restaurant experience each night. We had Greek food and entertainment at Vegera, we had wonderful and creative sea food at Oceania, we had excellent Mexican fusion cuisine at Paraiso, and then there's also a buffet. There are 2 more restaurants, one Japanese and one Cretan Grill. Each one is a different dining experience so you'll never get bored! We had a swim-up room and found it very comfortable for 2 people. They're clean, tastefully decorated and the bed is big and comfortable. We really appreciated the layout of the room as it makes good use of the space and there's plenty for storage, and yet it feels spacious. We're "old" so we asked for a room closest to the sea since we had read those where the quieter ones. And that proved to be true. As we walked around we noticed the area that's closer to the reception tended to have louder music with a more party type atmosphere. We also recommend the spa for a massage! We had Nancy P & Irini who gave us both an excellent Deep Tissue massage. Stella Island embodies what Crete stands for: Hospitality and warmth! Can't wait to come back!

Firstly thank you to Marianna, Maro and Georgia for making us feel welcome and taking care of everything during our stay, from our trips and transport to room requests and reservations. This level of service is what makes this truly a five star resort compared to others. The place is stunning. We stayed in a grand overwater bungalow with jacuzzi. It felt like Maldives in the Med. the whole resort is opulent with everything facing out over the grand lagoon. The rooms and facilities were high end, good quality, and practical. Also very very clean - the cleaners came twice a day including a turn down service. The restaurants were great. We stayed for five nights and had a different restaurant ever night. Each one being wildly different from the last in terms of menu, location, theme and aesthetics. My favourite was the beach located Paraiso with its Mexican fusion food, tequila cocktails, entertainment, and immersive architecture. The two buffet restaurants provided excellent choices and food, with plenty made to order. It was hard to believe we were at an all inclusive as every day in a new restaurant felt like going out on the town to all the different top restaurants! Room service options were limited and not reflective of the opulent choices of the rest of the resort, but arrived quickly and with a smile. The food at Unami and the steak restaurant were also high end, and the recipes and flavours very unique, but the service at these two restaurants didn’t match the five star attentiveness and organisation of the rest of the resort. Plenty of bars throughout, I enjoyed the brunch at Cabana and the staff there were all expert mixologists and put together any cocktail request I threw at them. The resort is really spread out and so you could easily find your own quiet area to relax, indoors and out. The gym was very decent, but we also had gym mats and weights machine in our bungalow. The lagoon pool was stunning and I enjoyed laying in the bungalow’s hammock atop and entering via our own steps. All in all, amazing value and complete escapism and relaxation. Perfect couple retreat. Get the app during your stay is my recommendation, or even before so you can peruse all the wonderful menus and entertainment schedule. I’d also recommend signing up to their loyalty club to get discount and booking direct. We will definitely be coming back again and again. Thank you to everyone at Stella Island Resort.

Private, relaxing, refreshing – and safe: Stella Island is the perfect place to escape to, especially if you are from a country that still has concerns about COVID, like the US, but need a renewing restful private vacation. We flew direct to ATH and then flew to Heraklion airport, where a private car was waiting for us, arranged by the hotel. The hotel also partners with a medical group that comes to the hotel to conduct COVID tests, which were required for us to return to the US. Our plan was to find a place to rest, relax, refresh ourselves and head home, not a trip where we wanted to join crowded tours. You can easily comfortably stay on the property and not have to leave at all because the facilities are amazing and provide everything you need. They have an app with a map, restaurants, reservations, FAQs, dress codes – it’s really amazing they use technology to make things easier for everyone. Hotel: Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and checked in, with a couple glasses of iced refreshing lemon spritzer. The facility is BEAUTIFUL. It looks just like the photos, and while there are always young people who love a good selfie, it was impressively very diverse in age and ethnicity as far as the clientele, which I loved. The Stella Palace, next door, is for families with children, so definitely Stella Island is very much an adult escape. The property is next to the beach but elevated in grade so you get that winding “floating” hotel feeling but on clean pool water, while overlooking the ocean. If you want to get in the ocean at a direct access beach, this isn’t the area for that. I prefer ocean views with infinity pools so this was perfect for me. There is a spa, fully loaded lobby with cappuccinos and alcohol, and multiple pool bars to eat or get drinks from. Food/Drink: We opted for the all-inclusive which is highly recommended bc who wants to do a bunch of accounting and budgeting on vacation? The all inclusive is buffet styles offered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but this is not Golden Corral. This is a Vegas level buffet, I mean really fresh, clean and very flavorful! (They want you to use disposable gloves each time you go to the buffet and wear masks when not eating). The best part is that there is an a la carte brunch included if you’re not into buffets or have dietary allergies (my husband has Celiac’s disease and cannot eat any gluten, including soy sauce). The all-inclusive also includes one dinner at any of the three a la carte restaurants ON SITE, which means each evening we had a romantic stroll under the sunset/stars both before and after dinner, and it was lovely strolling by beautiful landscaping full of olive trees, pomegranates, and other beautiful planting. Each dinner was a multi-course meal that alone would have more than justified the premium for all-inclusive. The meals are five-star level made from fresh ingredients and offer local wine and menus made with local olive oils and food products: Vegera gave us high quality local authentic fare (so I could still get my local food adventure, but gluten-free safe for my husband), Umami displayed beautiful Japanese inspired Asian cuisine (as an Asian-American myself from Los Angeles, I can honestly say this is one of the best meals I’ve ever had!), and Oceania revealed various creative culinary seafood that was both beautiful and delicious. Service is 6 out of 5 stars – above and beyond, sincere and kind but also very knowledgeable. (Their uniforms look like a sleek modern suit I would wear to any board meeting!) I felt healthier and cleaner after eating here for a week whatever I wanted to my heart's content because everything is fresh. Rooms: We stayed in the grand overwater bungalows with private jacuzzi, direct access to the pools, and overwater hammock. The room was large and had a home gym (which we didn’t use), large walk-in shower/sauna with seat, and a large closet and beautiful comfortable platform bed. The bathroom products are all really nice and smell beautiful, and a simple call to the front desk provides anything from an ironing board to room service or housekeeping. We spent most of the time on the deck in the included private sun beds and deck couch or in the jacuzzi. Our deck had views of the deep blue ocean, while dipping our feet in the pool directly off our deck. The only areas for improvement on the whole trip is brighter lighting options in the room (hard to do make up, even with a small lit make up mirror – don’t forget your plug converter) and the noise coming from Hotel Europa at night. But the jet lag will get you either way, so just bring Melatonin, ear plugs, and get up earlier to help combat that. We essentially left feeling refreshed, renewed and ready to tackle another unknown year between a global pandemic, its economic effects, and getting back into work. The best part of this renewal was the amazing staff, which was critical to the whole experience. A perfect Greek island destination without the nonsense of touristy entitled overcrowded and pricey Mykonos and Santorini, beautiful facilities, high quality culinary offerings, full amenities, AND kind, knowledgeable, and warm-hearted staff from maintenance to housekeeping to bell service to bartenders to hotel concierge and accounting, there isn’t a place where you will feel more welcomed and cared for sincerely than Stella Island Resort. Personal Tip: I always recommend visiting other countries with a humility of treating it as an honor to be invited into their home and culture, even at a luxury resort. I always ask what is recommended at restaurants and am open to try new things while mixing it with items I’m familiar with. I treat hotels like it’s a personal friend’s home, and staff like they are my friend’s relatives that live there. If you have that mentality, you will always walk away with lifetime memories and new friends all around the world, who you may even one day host at your house when they come to visit! 2020 was a rough year and seeing such authentic smiles again from staff every day, all day, really healed my heart more than I knew I needed. Kindness and sincerity from staff here is 10 out of 5 stars. Anacstasia was so amazing, and made you feel happy to see her daily and really just a kind hearted, strong, smart woman to be friends with. Wedding: My husband and I got married here, and Stella was amazing. She emailed right away, and helped me sort out everything from the wedding package options and ad-ons that were important to me. The vendors she selected were all wonderful, and whether you have a wedding or just want a photo session, I highly recommend Click on Demand, Elina, (IG: @clickondemand.photos) (clickondemand.photos/) for any photography needs. She was so eager to help us get the best shots, and we got all the files before we left Greece. Kostas was our videographer but we are still waiting on the final production of the video, and I can update again after that. He was very nice to work with. The flowers were amazing, and Stella even helped me get some extra flowers for the church since we didn't have any more budget for flower decorations since it was just me and my husband. Stella also had a schedule and checked in with me regularly to make sure everything was okay. The church onsite is BEAUTIFUL and it's right next to Vegera and all the olive groves. The weather was wonderful in October. It was truly a dream wedding thanks to Stella! Between Stella, Anacstasia, and all the staff, honestly, it felt like we had some family and friends for our wedding. We eloped because my parents are aging and COVID is so dangerous for my father, so I missed them very much on that day, but it felt better to see all the smiles and kindness from staff all day and the rest of the week, where it truly felt like we had friends and family who were happy for us. Thank you for making it feel like a full wedding for us!! We miss everyone and will definitely be back again.

The hotel looks great and the staff are lovely, however I did not think this was 5 star at all. I have to say the weather was poor when we went not 1 day of sun and it was the last week of the season effectively. However, there were several issues when we went which may have been due to end of season but this should not be an excuse. Firstly the rooms, we were in swim up room 113 which was very nice. The outlook was great and the shower and other items in the room were fine. The issues it had was there was a distinct smell of drains in the toilet. In addition deliveries were made to the pool bar very early and we had the barrels being rolled loudly past the room. A small things but on a few occasions things like cups not clean and dirty glasses not taken away. Also tea coffee and milk were not always correctly replaced and no decaffeinated coffee was available. I also noticed that one of the sheets had a small hole in it due to wear! In the main restaurant the food was very nice and in the a la carte ones it was perfect. However, generally in the buffet it was not hot and mostly lukewarm. This was the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The choice was alright if somewhat limited. The deserts at lunchtime would be repeated at dinner and the choice was limited to a few chocolate deserts and fruit (same every day). Turning now to the bar service which was quite poor for a 5 star. I would say the staff again were lovely. However, the bars were not able to serve large beers as they had no glasses. I can see a review earlier in the year mentioned this surely the hotel should have picked this up and sorted it. The service was very slow and customers had to come up to the bar and ask for drinks. In some cases I saw people ordering double rounds as the service was so bad. The bars seem to have a lack of bottle water and ran out most days. On several days the main pool bar had no large or small bottles of still water and I was told the reception bar may have some. When I walked up there they had no water either. In a 5 star establishment I would normally expect someone to go and get me a bottle rather than tell me to hunt around myself. In the main reception men's toilet one of the toilets was missing the seat which again should be sorted urgently if checks are made. As I mentioned earlier the weather when we went was not very hot so I asked for English breakfast tea on several occasions in the bar and restaurants. The water for the tea was not boiling and generally only lukewarm which meant the tea was cold in a few minutes. Not a 5 star hotel in my opinion, I have been to better 3 star place, for service. Although looking at the reviews I seem to be in the minority.
