Had a work slash friends meeting and he was an amazing attentive and made sure we had all we needed went out of he’s way to help and makes amazing cocktails would recommend this hotel and the staff we had a brilliant night and lovely morning meeting 5 stars just for the staff and the rooms are very nice every staff member was very respectful of all the customers they had even the rude ones
Firstly when we arrived there was no record of my online payment that I had done two weeks ago so I had to prove to the receptionist that I paid by showing them my bank statement on my phone. Then they asked for a card and then charged £30 to it without any explanation. When we asked what it was for they just said it was an estimate of what we would spend. However being told that beforehand would have been nice. I had paid extra for the privilege room with "lakeside view"- couldn't see a lake at all!! Also the heating was up so high in the room it was like a sauna and there was a brown stain on the ceiling.. The furniture looked old, tired and dated. The leather chairs were worn out and broken. All of the 'wooden' furniture was chipped/scratched. There was only 4 nespresso pods in the room and only enough milk for two decent coffees. Definitely not enough supplies. The breakfast was nice, there was a lovely selection of foods to choose from. This is the only positive. We went to the bar for drinks in the evening and this was also a very disappointing experience. The barman, who looked very young, admitted that he didn't know how to make the mojito cocktails that we ordered. (well he only told us this after he gave us the god awful drinks) He spent 10 minutes making them and repeatedly going back and forth to the kitchen. What we ended up with was a disgusting drink but we didn't have time to complain because our taxi was waiting outside to take us to an event. We were still charged £9 for the drinks that were horrible. I had paid for late checkout upto 6pm on the Sunday which was £20 extra. At around 2 o'clock a cleaner tried to come into our room, luckily we had the chain across the door so they couldn't get in. She seemed surprised we were still there and said that someone had told her we had checked out. We also noticed that our room key had stopped working so the reception had actually checked us out. When we contacted the reception they implied it was our fault and asked if we put the card by a magnet which would stop it working? It was ridiculous. It's a good job we hadn't gone out for the day and come back to a locked, cleaned up room. When we went to reception to get a new working card the receptionist gave no explanation or an apology for the mix up. We should have been refunded the £20. We left soon after as we were fed up. They don't care about customer service at all. Extremely disappointed, I don't understand how they're still in business. Never staying here again.…
Booked via booking.com Room - Paid extra for a privilege lakeside view room. DO NOT bother paying extra to have a view of the lake. The lake was in the far distant and the only reason we realised it was actually there was as we could see a fishing rod!!! No view of the actual lake. Albeit the view from our room was mainly of the grounds of the hotel so still a nicer view than the other rooms that faced the buildings/car park. Room very very dated. Broken chair with the desk. One chair with the table and not 2. No slippers. No newspaper. Things that were advertised as being included with the room rate but not provided. Bar - don’t bother asking for cocktails from certain bar staff. Ordered a Bellini to be told “sorry we don’t have any prosecco” (went to dinner an hour later and saw others with prosecco cocktails!) and then ordered a mojito to be told “I’ve never made one of these before”. He followed the recipe and it was honestly the worst tasting mojito we have ever had! We went back to the bar to have it changed for a different drink for the member of bar staff to try to charge us for the new drinks - even though they were cheaper than the cocktails. No offer of the price difference in drinks back either!! They advertise that cocktails are buy one get one half price between 5-7pm, don’t bother as they don’t honour this promotion. Restaurant - our only positive. Lovely food, lovely service, no quibbles. Perfect. Breakfast - standard buffet, polite chef. Nice enough selection of continental and full English. Pool - make sure you tell the person on reception you are staying in the hotel as we got charged £10 to go into the pool. We questioned this and were refunded. Pool okay, depth up to 2.1m. A bit dated but adequate. Jacuzzi wasn’t open. Spa treatment - we booked in March 2021 for our treatments in September 2021 to get to the spa before our appointment time to be told “sorry we have double booked” they had given our space to a walk in customer and tried to blame it on me. They tried to blame that their booking system isn’t very good, then tried to blame a different member of staff, then tried to say the massage we booked wasn’t a couples massage when I had the emails to confirm. They said they had got confused. We booked a couples massage and they wanted us to have them separately which would have defeated the object. We got a refund and left. They did however apologise and admit it was their fault and not mine and offered a free of charge massage. My only gripe would be that they had peaceful soothing background music on as most spas would, however they do not pay for “unlimited” so there were adverts that interrupted every 10 mins or so. Not really very professional for a company that they can’t pay to have the proper music placing with no adverts. One advert was a crying baby. We were away to have a relaxing weekend away from our children so hearing crying baby in the middle of a massage isn’t really acceptable. Staff - generally friendly and polite. Just incompetent bar staff. Majority seemed very young and new, maybe some more training on cocktails would be helpful. Their response was “we don’t have many people ask for cocktails” well then either don’t have a cocktail list or train your staff to be able to make them! Overall we WOULD NOT return. Room was no nicer than a Premier inn. Premier inn would even be newer decorated and probably in better condition. The cost we paid was over the odds for the room and service we received.…
Arrived this afternoon after a long tiring journey. First impressions…reception-very pleasant and helpful. Checked into our room…as in previous reviews rooms are definitely tired but I can accept this as long as rooms are clean. Went to toilet only to find pubic hair on seat! Looked behind bathroom door and found hairs on floor! Having just returned to our room I notice that all the skirting boards have a layer of dust on them…this just isn’t good enough and I will never choose a Mercure hotel again!
I stayed with a family member overnight after attending a wedding at leeds castle on the night of 25th july. All i can say is the staff on site after midnight were amazing and deserve praise. The customer service was outstanding! The room was good and breakfast in the morning had a gd selection and all covid measures were in place.
