Rustic elegance on top of a Tuscan hill with views that span 30 miles and sunsets that we will never forget. We enjoyed the off-the-beaten-track location and active farm setting which allowed us to make day-trips to many gorgeous hilltop towns, including Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza,...More
My several attempts to modify our reservation months in advance fell disattended or, worse, ignored by the personnel. Apart this inconvenience the site is amazing, located on top of a hill with a breathtaking view.
A peaceful location with an outstanding view of the Tuscan countryside from the terrace where we ate. Two small and beautifully maintained outdoor pools. Food mostly excellent except for the Sunday night dinner which was just cold meats and cheese (chef's night off?). But other...More
Great property good food nice people owners are there always in some way, mom is great! Great for travel in area once you find it initially. Not a happening town so don't expect much. Great pizza place just down hill. Good bar too small and...More

We will be at Il Poggio for a week in October. We will be arriving from Marotta on the east coast by train to somewhere close to rent a car for the week. Following this week we will fly home to the U.S. Do you have any suggestions:
1. What is the best place we can get to from Marotta by train to rent a car? Please don't say Rome but how about Siena or the Pisa airport, or somewhere else where driving is somewhat sane?
2. What's the best airport we should consider for the trip home as we return the car or by train after returning the car? We could stay overnight before flights if needed.

Sorry, I can't be of any help. We rented our car at the Florence airport. You are going to really enjoy Il Poggio.
