Netley Hall has garnered mixed reviews, with some guests praising the spacious rooms and scenic views, yet many express concerns over value, citing steep prices and underwhelming amenities. While the hotel's grounds and breakfast are often appreciated, the rooms are repeatedly flagged for requiring refurbishment. Though the staff's friendliness receives commendation, inefficiencies and disorganization have not gone unnoticed.
Cleanliness is inconsistent, with areas needing more meticulous maintenance. Lastly, opinions on the atmosphere are divided; despite its relaxing charm, a sense of neglect has been noted by several visitors.

Well, where to start the long drive up to a beautiful manor house is breathtaking a little bumpy, but that adds to the character, the grand Hall, the bar area is a little dark but again thos didn't bother us, so far off to a good start until came to ordering drinks and asking about menus, we where servied by a rude older lady with a glass of wine in her hands, who rudely asked what do you want? She claimed to be the owner/manager of this fine hotel (not a good impression but okay), we asked what red wines where available by the bottle, she didn't seem too really know what wines they stocked Fortunately a young lad on the bar came to her rescue and offered us a fantastic bottle. We then again asked the same lady for the menu so we could glance over while we enjoyed a glass of wine, the menus never arrived. We were then taken into beautiful restaurants laid with white and gold paint with tables beautifully set up, we asked the young man for menus and was quickly given, and order taken professionally and in a good manner. We opted for the forcaccia, which we can only express as out of this world, the warm bread with labeh and lavishing drizzle of honey was superb, now for the mains mine was a beautiful cooked halibut and my wife's was the treacle cured beef fillet, we have been fortunate to eat at alot of michlin stares restaurants over the years but we have gotta say the food at Netley Hall is definitely if not worth a michlin star it was fantastic bite after bite released flavour after flavour, it was just amazing. The kitchen is a credit to hotel, and the chefs clearly know what they're doing when it comes to cooking and flavours. We were lucky enough to bump into we believe was the head chef to thank him for a marvellous meal he's explained to use where he gets his meat and fish from and the whole process from thought to plate you could see and hear the passion this guy has for cooking on thanking him again he assisted that he couldn't do without his team and would pass on our lovely comments to the kitchen.

We stayed for 3-nights in a cottage as a family of four. We chose it as it is dog friendly (although a ÂŁ50 supplement charge per stay).
The cottage was large with 2 excellent sized bedrooms, both with bathrooms with large showers. It was clean and toasty warm. The kitchen was well provided for with fridge/freezer, gas oven and hob. There were enough pans, utensils and baking trays etc. A dishwasher was a bonus. There was no microwave.
The reason this doesn’t get a 4 or even 5 star review is that the attention to detail and maintenance is lacking. There were several light bulbs gone, one of the hob rings didn’t work, a bedside table missing with the bedside light left in a cupboard and mirrors obviously missing from both bathrooms. There are no cleaning materials at all, brush to sweep up or washing liquid (we did get 2 dishwasher tablets, but they gave us more when requested).
The most annoying aspect was the lack of wifi for our entire stay. They did try to address this, but it appeared that it was a frequent problem talking to the receptionist. The solution was to print out wifi passwords for the other cottages. This was not a viable solution as the signal was too poor to be of any use. I wouldn’t mind being off grid for a few days, but it is useful to be able to check the weather and plan days out whilst away. Unfortunately Vodafone phone/data signal is incredibly poor throughout the area, so is not an alternative.
The staff were all excellent and friendly.
The hotel and grounds themselves are beautiful. Fantastic place to walk and take the dog.
Breakfast was good, choice of three cereals, fruit, excellent yoghurts and toast. The usual cooked breakfast had fairly limited options, but was let down by cheap sausages. The cereal bowls were dirty every day and I had to go through 8 to find a clean one. I had already pointed this out to staff the day before. However, for the price we paid (used Groupon deal) the included breakfast was well worth it. We didn’t eat in the main restaurant so can’t comment.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but Netley Hall was let down in easily and quickly fixable ways, by a lack of care and attention to details.

It is a lovely old building set in extensive grounds, very quiet, but run down and needs a serious amount of money spent on it. Our room was pleasant, but the curtains were hanging off and needed cleaning, the bathroom window had been painted black instead of putting a blind up so it was permanently dark, and the shower was very hard to turn past boiling hot. I had to ask a member of staff for help.
The staff were all very young and friendly, but it definitely needed an experienced manager to oversee things. The foyer disco music (obviously for the benefit of the staff) was turned on from early morning until late at night. We had to close the doors to the yellow drawing room, which was lovely, as we could not hear. No scones or cakes with afternoon tea. Everything had to be paid for at the time of ordering, nothing could be added to your room tab, which was a nuisance.
I assume the extractor fan in the kitchen had broken down as there was a horrible stale fried food smell downstairs.
Breakfast was totally self service, just a basket of very ordinary fruit and the cooked food had been out in warmers for ages. You had to go and get a glass from your table for orange juice, why the glasses were not left by the juice seemed ridiculous and the same applied if you wanted a cup of tea.
The food at dinner was very good although they got our meals muddled up and my friend ended up with my very well cooked fish, which was a shame.

would advise all and anyone who book here to check if there is a wedding at your time of visit because if there is quite simply save your money, you will be treated as nothing but an outcast your room will be late because they prioritize wedding rooms and guests, the bar will be shut because of the wedding the restaurant will also be shut because of the wedding even though we booked because they apparently have all these facilities open onsite we were left absolutely disappointed.
The bed isn't even worth mentioning just awful.
We hoped for a lovely night away and were left absolutely deflated our room although set in charming and somewhat kept grounds was not what we expected it had a disgusting smell that went through the whole place it was tired and in need of some renovation. The kitchen floor was hollow door handles hanging off the sofas in the living room stank and were dirty. I have no doubt the upkeep on such a place is monumental but as paying guests we feel we wasted or money our stay was ruined, none of the staff spoke bar the reception lady who was the only person who helped us. If there was a money back guarantee you would be fine but as there isn't book at your own risk quite simply.

On entering the room first impression very spacious but tired bathroom door broke 3 lights I bathroom had no bul s in .The bed was clean but pillows really flat .I had a shower and realised there was no hair dryer.Breakfast was entirely farcical .Arrived In dining room at pre arranged time drinks machine on cleaning mode .There was no instruction as to where to get things from We were given a menu o ly to have it took off us and told it was a buffet breakfast. 3 cereal choices and you had to use the jugs of milk for the cereal I your tea when we could eventually get one. There was no teaspoons or dessert spoons on the table and no cruets. When the food was put out the majority of it was cold. The staff were talking amongst themselves taking no notice e of guests. I then complained They weren't really bothered but took the food back to the kitchen No one In authority bothered to come and address the problems I resent paying up market prices for I adequate sevice, food quality, tired and substandard accommodation I don't think I should have to give a star rating before the review is accepted .A comment on these issues would be greatly appreciated I

I took my husband here for a long weekend. What a fabulous house set in beautiful countryside. The rooms are basic not luxury. Clean well decorated and still have the lovely features of shutters to cover the windows. Bathroom was well equipped with walk in shower, pedestal basin, the only issue was the toilet which was so hi I couldn’t put my feet on the floor ( I thought it was just me being short legged ) but my husband also commented on how hi it was. Also the toilet seat did not fit properly. The room had obviously not been used for a while as there were dead flies in the bedroom and bathroom on the floors. There was a separate dressing room with wardrobe and two tall chest of drawers. The room included a hairdryer and tea and coffee. The bed was a large double with a very springy mattress ( you could feel the springs) the pillows were terribly thin and we had to ask for extra pillows.( my husband hurt his back sleeping in this bed. The dressing table chair had terribly wobbly legs. The shower had not been used for a while and I had to ask my husband to turn it on which he also had difficulties with as they had been welded shut with limescale. The dinning experience was brilliant and the staff amazing. Then we got the bill which had items on it that we had not had. So as there were no bar staff there in the morning we have to wait to pay the bill later today by phone call. ( check your bill) Overall we would stay here again.

The rooms were very good. Looks like a relatively new refurbishment. The staff were friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. Tolietries in the room for two people were sparse though. it was difficult to find the room we were given , in the main hall. we were not shown to our room, and, in that case, the signposts in the hotel need to be far clearer. There was no lift available, so be prepared to walk up the stairs. For that reason alone, it would have been helpful to be shown to your room. As a New Years Eve gala dinner do, the positives were the firework display and the bands that played and the facility for dancing, However, if you were expecting a gourmet dinner by an award winning chef, then you will be disappointed. The breakfast the following morning followed the same poor standard. The starters were bland in presentation and taste. The salmon was cut up from a large side of salmon, no sauce, and for two guests was inedible. The main course meat or fish element was of low quality without any inspiration. The vegetables for 4 people were all piled onto one small plate and no added butter, sauce or herbs added. No serving spoons. The dessert was a little better. The cheese platter (small plate) was stuffed with large lumps of low quality cheese, placed on top of sticks of celery, stale biscuits and the petit fours were also added on top of that! The wine glasses for red wine were sherry glasses! This aspect of the evening needs huge improvement and so does the breakfast selection and carpet needs to be cleaned. We were greeted at 9.40 with an assistant who said they close at !0 and there's only leftovers. She was blunt and quite rude, implying we were late and that's all that is available. That was not service you would expect. The New Years Eve do finished late and the hotel should be prepared to serve breakfast till late in the morning or at least be far more helpful to its customers. For the money ÂŁ100 was not good value. Improve the food substantially and it would be.

Great Hotel, very relaxing and fine food. Will be using again if travelling in the area.
Liked · Great location, impressive building with wonderful interior public rooms, attentive and courteous staff. The 'Clock Tower' Restaurant was excellent in terms of ambience, service and quality of food on the two evenings we ate there. Breakfast was as substantial as you might wish with a buffet style full English and continental options. The owner's partner was most attentive after I nearly took a tumble in the resturaunt when my dodgy knee collapsed whilst trying to retrieve a dropped napkin, she then took the time to talk to us about our experience at the hall and explain some of the recent history. Our room was a well-appointed twin, with shower room and separate walk-in wardrobe/dressing room we even had a large metal model 1st world war airplane light fitting. Good quality in-room tea & coffee and toiletries. The extensive gardens with well laid out paths and large lake near the hall were a pleasure andit is easy to see why this is a popular wedding venue.
Disliked · Nothing really ... but if nit picking
It would be nice to have more information about the hotel facilities, the history of the building and walk routes around the estatee in the room.
The reception desk is very tall meaning only the top of the receptionist's head is visible, not very welcoming, though the staff were great, particularly the afternoon/evening lady.
We stayed on two of the hottest night of the year so far and were glad we had packed a fan!

The hall itself is a beautiful building and the facilities were great which made for an excellent engagement party. Four of us stayed in one of the lodges which had two large en-suite bedrooms, a comfortable living area and a well appointed kitchen, all clean and well maintained. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and it was very tasty altogether a great experience and we’re looking forward to returning in the future.

I made my booking at Netley Hall as I needed to be near Shrewsbury for a work related meeting. At the time of booking I informed the hotel that I wouldn't be arriving until between 8pm and 9pm and requested a quiet room. The hotel acknowledged these requests. When arriving at 9pm I immediately noticed the lack of cars in the huge car park including the fact that all the staff car parking bays were empty. I walked into the hotel to check in only to be met with a closed door at the reception area and a note telling me that reception had been closed and if it was an emergency then there was a mobile number to ring. On a separate notice my name was displayed along with the room I had been allocated and the notice told me that my room was unlocked. There are so many issues with this in terms of the hotel feeling that it's acceptable to print my name and hotel room details on a sign visible to anyone who was in the hotel or came into the hotel for any reason. Clearly they do not feel that GDPR applies to them. I made my way to my room meeting absolutely no-one on my way. To say the whole thing felt creepy to a person who was travelling by themselves is an understatement. I was allocated the Atrium room, a room which had a small flight of stairs leading to the atrium which was over the reception area of the hotel. The room itself was stuffy and had not a single window. The only light oil the room coming from the atrium which was light by artificial light. I looked for a phone to dial for some room service only to find there was no phone in the room so I went back downstairs. At this point I did meet another guest who told me that the restaurant was shut and so was the bar and that there was nowhere to get food at the hotel, he himself had been directed to a nearby pub to get a meal. This wasn't an option for me at gone 9pm. I went back to my room as there was not even an option of getting a drink. The hotel had not informed me when I booked that the restaurant was closed nor did they tell me that there would be no chance of getting anything to eat at the hotel despite the fact they knew what time I would be arriving. I ended up going straight to bed after a very long drive only to find that I had no method of turning any of the lights off that lit up the atrium so it was like trying to sleep in Blackpool illuminations. When I requested a quiet room I would have thought that anyone reading that request would understand that I wanted to be able to get a decent nights sleep. Instead I was woken throughout the night, disturbed by the amount of light in the room and the total lack of air. Its a very long time since I have stayed anywhere as appalling as Netley Hall. Basically the hotel has been simply left open for guests to arrive without there being a single member of staff in the building, I am not even sure that this is legal. It is simply an abandoned hotel. Not to be able to get food or a drink at the end of a journey is shocking especially when the hotel could have contacted me to let me know this. There are other hotels nearby, if needing to stay in Shrewsbury my advice would be to pick a different hotel.

Hi I have stayed at Netley on many occasions and have really enjoyed it. If you are staying any length of time and cooking you may find the utensils and pots and pans etc a bit sparse but there is an excellent old pub called the bottle and glass down the road in picklescott does great food and beer. The mobile reception is very hit and miss with O2 being the better one and for £10 for the stay you can get WiFi which I used to watch Netflix on the smart tv. If you are fishing the specimen lake has some lovely fish in it but I wouldn’t bother with the others as there is very little in them. If you are using sat nav to get there it will try and take you into the main house entrance so make sure you turn of into a little lane of the A49 at Dorrington by the horseshoes pub there is a convenience store across the road where you can get most bits of shopping and a great local butchers just a few yards further on
