We booked a suite in the annex to the castle. If you look up the definition of annex, it means "a building joined to a main building",The site made it clear that the rooms were not in the castle, but not where the annex actually is, and we just assumed that it was the white building next to the castle... We got stuck in the snow on the Fern Pass several years ago but after passing the Schloss Fernstein hotel and lake we vowed to return one day when he sung as shining. This year we were able o do this. Although our first booking had to be cancelled, but the very helpful hotel staff were understanding and went out... More

What a great find while driving through the mountains towards Austria from Lucerne. The hotel, restaurant/bar and Castle (Schloss) take you back in time with opulence, history and a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. The Castle rates are reasonable and the modern conveniences (mattress, jacuzzi tub, kitchenette, TV, etc.) are both functional and blend well with the antiques spread throughout the property.... Dear Mr. Arge2015, Just to clarify your very incorrect review: First off I’d like to say that I am the “impolite” receptionist. (and assistant hotel director) If you ask us for half board, and this is not available, it’s not a reason to call us unfriendly! There is a reason you can’t book the half board on any platforms. Just... More

Trout fresh out of the Fernsteinsee... sounds great so I went to the Restaurant of the Hotel (I stayed on the campsite below the hotel). The trout was indeed very delicious, to the point. Juicy but definitly done and tender, melting on the tongue. What was a real spoiler was the herbs on top of the trout like a lump... More

Took a friend here for 2 nights in the hope that we could dive in the lake. Unfortunately, you need to have at least 100 dives to do this. We had a beautiful room with sofa, table and separate enclosed terrace area and nice bathroom. Beds were lovely and comfy. Had two evening meals there and food was excellent and... More

On the way from Germany to Italy you can choose the Fernpass. It's s lovely trip with great view of the mountains. Along the way you will pass several restaurants. For me the highlight is the little Castle Fernstein at the Fernstein Lake. The restaurant has a own patisserie and makes delicious cakes and strudel. The prices are very moderate... More

We stopped to eat at the restaurant on our trip through the area. Service was OK. The waiter didn't check how we were doing, ask if we wanted anything else, or thank us for the tip. We had the trout, which tasted OK. The waiter didn't know how to separate the bones. I showed him, but he was embarrassed. Price... More

We stayed at the castle from July 27 to 30. It was just AMAZING. We had the suite "Amalia from Braunschweig". It is decorated with a lot of taste. It's antique but very functional, the bathroom is just breathtaking! The bed in the room has it's surprises, but I won't tell, as you should have this amazing "wow"-effect we had.... More
