I stayed 2 nights at cabanas caiman (december 2016). (best to check boat chedule by mailing ailen if you want the public boat). The nature was awesome combining wetlands AND tropical forest. During the night boat tour we saw a lot of animals like kingfishers, tarantula, iguanas, cayman, opossum... Because a lot of them are sleeping you can get reaaalllllly...

We spent two nights at cabanas caiman at the end of July 2016 and it was one of the highlights of our three weeks trip in Nicaragua. If you are looking to get up close with the Nicaraguan jungle in an off the beaten tracks environment, then you can't miss this. The cabana is very simple but clean with a...

Amazing adventure for family of four. Great food, clean and spacious cabins (mosquito free!) and most of all fenomenal tours by day and night with Armando. We saw sleeping birds and basilisks in the trees, a sloth with its baby, spider monkeys and howler monkeys, and other increadible wildlife. If you want a wildlife experience in Nicaragua, this is the...

We stayed in charming and spacious wooden cabins by the river. Aillen and Armando were very nice hosts, and the boat tours were unique. It was incredible how Armando could spot every animal in the river. The food was excellent too, and the dinners were arranged according to our schedule. Those people clearly love what they do.

Getting there was an adventure - water level in Papaturro is really low, so for the last part of the trip we had to leave the ferry and get into the trailer attached to a tractor. Once we got there Aileen and Armando could not do enough to make our stay memorable. They even supplied us with gumboots - so...

I completely agree with the excellent previous reviews. I made a point of visiting Los Guatuzos after a friend went in February of 2016 and told me about it. I stayed three nights and did three excursions - a morning walk and night tour with Armando at Cabanas Caiman, and a kayak trip with the Eco Lodge. I saw lots...

Previous reviews are so descriptive that I have little to add. The rooms are definitely basic, and have suffered some from the climate, but having an indoor toilet and shower in this remote area is a luxury. You are likely to spend all of your time outside anyway. We spent our afternoons just sitting by the river watching the birds...

We spent two nights and it is a highlight of the area for us, better than Caño Negro and a day trip in Indonesia-Maiz. We took the slow boat there and luckily could catch a fast boat back. The family running these 4 cabañas are great- Aillen and Armando. They communicate quickly to emails and share upto date info- which...

We took the 45 minute flight from Managua to San Carlos. Aillen was there to meet us with the taxi (40 cordobas) to take us to the private boat ($170USD for the boat, luckily we shared with 2 other guests). It was 2 hours across the lake, then 1 hr down the river. That day, the lake was choppy and...

The two days spent at Cabanas Caiman were the highlight of our traveling through Nicaragua. Although it may seem difficult to get there, the slow boat is worth taking as it is a social event and a tour by itself as you see many animals. The lodge has everything you need: comfortable clean bed with mosquito net, working shower and...
