We stayed at the l’Hôtel Pelican in February for 6 days. It is an extremely clean small hotel with very friendly and helpful people at reception. Our room faced west so we got to see the sunset over the Caribbean Sea every night. The neighbourhood is very family oriented with several restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood. I have to eat gluten free and I had no problem finding choices. We especially liked The Wanted Food. For our first morning, we ordered each a breakfast. There is no restaurant on site so it comes catered. Our breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. The little kitchenette is on the balcony with full amenities. Before leaving home, we had booked a rental car, which is the only way to get around Martinique as it is very mountainous. The hotel gives you information on who to book with, if you specifically send them an email. One place we especially loved was Ste-Anne on the south east coast. They have a small but well supplied market. I wanted to get some local spices and didn’t want to go into Fort-de-France because it was Mardi Gras with tons of people. I bought lots of wonderfully smelling spices and locally made mixed drinks to drink back at our room. Le Village de la Poterie on the south side of the Baie de Fort-de-France was a really nice half day. We had an affordable lunch at a restaurant there that looks like a big gazebo, eating outside in the breeze. We then drove around the peninsula. This part of Martinique is more touristy. The beach Les Salines is beautiful. Very long with soft white sand. Lots of restaurants and boutiques just off the beach but you would never know it because they don’t play loud music. We spent a week with our two children, and my wife’s parents in an adjacent room, so we experienced both the family room and the ocean side room. It’s one of the cleanest, nicest, friendliest and best situated hotels we have ever visited in many years of travelling. The pool is charming, the beach 30 seconds away is clean and not crowded, with decent, small restaurants. Proximity to Fort de France, supermarkets and the airport adds to the charm of this place. Parking is easy. Oh, and there was even free laundry. Highly recommended!!

In our 4th attempt to finally visit Martinique we always knew where we would stay first while "in the south of the island" (feel free to my separate review on Hotel Le Panoramic) but it was the second part of the journey for which always planned to explore "the middle and the north" parts of this island that we couldn't find the right pleasant appeal/quality to location to price combination - not until we came across Hotel Pelican which caught my attention immediately and which after spending here 3 nights I can honestly say now checked off all of these needs. Location: easy 20 minutes roughly west from the FDF airport - once you get off the "highway road" and transfer to the street just follow the google maps and you will come across the hotel sign on one of the buildings - it's somewhat unusual but its due to the hotel's prime beachfront location - it's hard to believe but Hotel Pelican is the only absolute beachfront hotel in this area and for the price it comes at it's an absolute steal. There is a public pathway literally waterfront of the hotel leading straight to the beach below - for the night gate is closed to prevent non-guests entering the property from the beach but you are welcome to use your key if you still want to use it - it's simply faster than walking "behind" the hotel through the parking lot - there is a cemetery right behind it, pretty unusual place for a cemetery, so I am not sure I would care for the room without the ocean view but it's still an excellent value - the beach nearby is pretty decent too and there are some restaurants walking distance. It's worth mentioning that the location is perfect for exploring St Pierre (north/northwest), La Trinite (east/northeast) and quite honestly anything else you would want to visit as Martinique has an absolute superb quality of its roads and everything is very well connected - it's a road trip paradise - we drove 711km/442miles in our 8 days on this island to give you an idea. Room: we have on on the on the European 2nd floor or American 3rd Floor - on the pictures "to the left of the letter T" on the Hotel Pelican logo that is on the face of the hotel facing the ocean - the views were stunning, sunset, chilling, breakfast on the balcony - loved it! Wi-Fi worked great, don't recall a safe in the room or I simply forgot by now as we stayed in 4 different hotels during our 2 weeks between Martinique and Guadeloupe but all in all you don't one, trust me. The TV is French cable so unless you speak French you are out of luck - but the views and everything else will make you forget about this, trust me. The bed is decent and 2 pillows per person was a pleasant factor as well. A/C worked perfectly and the outside kitchen on the balcony was a welcome surprise - there are electrical shades AND! a new one for me an electrical awning :) so throughout the day when the sun is blasting too hard you can use the buttons on the wall to adjust that to your liking. One thing I would complain about was the noise... the walls didn't feel too thick and one night we even had another couple having fun :) for 3 nights it didn't bother us too much but I can see how this could affect someone being a light sleeper Hotel Grounds: the parking lot leads to the building and also provides a direct separate pathway to the swimming pool which then also connects via gate to the public pathway leading to the beach - that's about it :) it's most but very tastefully decorated with plants, greenery and art - don't get me wrong, this is a very pretty place so don't get discouraged with my first sentence. The pool and the sunset views, sunbeds and chilling/reading the book on, balconies everything was really great but what is worth mentioning is the hotel's extra room with a full bathroom for guests who need to leaves the hotel post check out - very impressive and nice gesture on the hotel's end to create a full blown package like this available for free to the guests. The check in lobby is right on the ground level and the welcome is very personal (quite unusual in a good way) where the person actually takes you on a small tour of the property and tells you about the good stuff and answers all of your questions - big thank you to Maxim and the rest of the Hotel Pelican Team (not everyone spoke English but they all tried and did their best to make sure they answer all of our questions and needs, from the bottom of our hearts thank you!) Beach & swimming pool: loved chilling in the pool and sipping rhum while on those sunbeds - it's a very pleasant location and like I said, it's an absolute water front. The pool get's I believe to 7meters or around 6'. I relaxed in the ocean water twice as well - as much as I enjoyed the pool there is nothing better than just jumping into ocean after a busy day of exploration :) it's a very family friendly breach and region with believe it or not Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop right on the beach - don't get too excited it's still Martinique and people don't really speak English here (which further made me wonder how did B&J end up here?). Food & restaurant options: so while there are lunch and dinner options the only place serving breakfast in the area opens up at 9AM - therefore it's essential to take advantage of the hotel's breakfast menu served/brought to your room - it's an excellent value and quality and for the convenience/necessity we thought that 12 EURO (think at most $15 with coffee included) it was an extreme bargain! Trust me, we loved buying pastry etc. during our first part of the trip from the local bakery but here there was none or maybe I just didn't find one (didn't help we overlapped a holiday on one of the days so things didn't run as usual). We tried also the Fruit Plate and it was very refreshing - it's a loooooot of fruits though so you better be Vitaminic C thirsty :) other than this we ended up having a great lunch up north at La Petibonum (reviewed separately) from the "closer" spots and 2 dinners at the nearby beachfront/feet in the sand supppppper down to earth Caribbean bbq/grill Fan De Grill (reviewed separately) - we really didn't more than that, we loved it - if you are interested in the other restaurants just check my other reviews here on TA as it's hard to recommend it here as many of them were simply quite far from the hotel as we love to explore and drove around a lot so not certain if you are up for the same thing. There is also a room with vending machines and the like where you can find some drinks, alcohols, snacks etc. also the same vendor who provides the breakfast to the hotel occasionally prepares some desserts and sells them in the fridge of this room - the Tiramisu was excellent!!! Things to do: my favorite part about Martinique - the million things to do and never get bored :) so a day drip to St Pierre is an absolute must - Depaz Distillery + Science of Earth Center + Lunch + Neisson Distillery + stop at the Point de vue de L'anse Marigot for the I LOVE MARTINIQUE memory for life picture is just an idea :) another one we did was Distillery La Favorite, Distillery HSE (Habitation Saint Etienne) and then lunch at Cocoa Beach Cafe (our fav meal in Martinique) in la Trinite (what I call Martinique's "right arm" on the map) + St James Rhum Museum, or the drive to the Rhum JM + Grand Riverre in the north... the possibillities here are endless! and we visited during "still COVID" November 2021 when the Jardin de Balata and Fort St Louis were both still closed to public, sadly! Overall: great stay, great area (it's close to a University so the entire area feels safe and gives out friendly fives haha), if I redid our trip I would keep it exactly the same way - split between the exact 2 hotels, including Hotel Pelican the way we did here to create what became one of my favorite journeys of my life!…

Just stayed here one night before picking up a cruise ship-but wish we could have stopped longer. LOCATION is STUNNING (beach front behind private gate) but also ISOLATED ( not much going on around the hotel regarding entertainment -bars and food) .STAFF-ROOMS ( sea view is a MUST) and FACILITIES are superb. THANKS to the MANAGER who could not “do enough” for us as we struggled with the language but ALL turned out GREAT. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS HOTEL.

We really enjoyed our two-night stay at Hotel Pelican; our rooms were comfortable and pristine (very, very clean) and it was particularly memorable due to the excellent service we received from the front of house staff. The team were happy to accommodate us in any way - they provided tea/coffee during check in and a great restaurant recommendation (Lili's); they gave us a last-minute lift when we were struggling to find a taxi; they were so approachable (which made us comfortable to ask anything) and were accommodating of our various language skills (three languages between us!) We stayed in two rooms: I had a twin (the balcony of which overlooked the car park but was still lovely - see my photos for proof) and my friends had the double with the sea view. Both rooms were incredibly comfortable and more than suited our needs. Facilities: Bathrooms of both rooms were clean and fit for purpose, though I would have liked a corner shelf in the shower/wet room area. The hotel has a pool (which I didn't use, so can't comment on) and also has it's own entrance directly to the beach - blissful. Breakfast: We chose to have the hotel provide breakfast, which was delicious on both mornings (Thank you Chef Guillaume!) Fresh fruit, perfectly cooked eggs, charcuterie, a selection of cheeses, pancakes on one occasion, and mouth watering pastries (I uploaded pictures of this, so take a look.) As a Brit, I appreciated the selection of tea too. :D Slight drawbacks: There are no phones in the room, so you can't call down to reception (but it's easy to walk down.) I had an issue with my room one day: my front door was left ajar by one of the air conditioning maintenance guys. Nothing was stolen though, and when I reported it, management apologised. Restaurants nearby: We were told that there were several restaurants within walking distance but we didn't find that to be the case. We found one Italian restaurant, and a couple of beach-front drink places, one of which probably serves food (we didn't eat there so I can't comment.) We also had real trouble finding a restaurant open on Monday night, so avoid dining out on that night if you can. There's a takeaway pizza place within walking distance, so eat there on a Monday I'd say (we'd eaten there the night before; the pizzas were good and the menu quite varied.) All in all, when next in Martinique, I will certainly look into returning to Hotel Pelican. I'd highly recommend it.…

This is a great choice to discover the northern part of Martinique and right at the beach in Schoelcher with many restaurants walking distance. Rooms are clean, spacious and the decor is contemporary - the hotel just opened a few months ago! Being a small, family-run place the manager is often around and the staff is very friendly. Loved the breakfast that you can have brought to your room. Go for the sea view and if you want more intimacy, the 3rd floor is the best. You can enjoy beautiful sunsets and observe pelicans catching fish in the sea. We'll be back!
