Stayed nights 4 and 5 of a 2 week honeymoon trip.
You are better off hiring a 4X4 drive like a Jeep if you are going to stay here. I would recommend a Jeep anyway if you are going to hire a car in the...More
This resort is beautifully situated on the lagoon with comfortable, well spaced cabanas. It's worth noting the restaurant only serves food in the evening. We may have been unlucky, but the wifi was not working during our one night stay, and in the morning the...More
My fiancé surprised me with a trip here. It was absolutely the most gorgeous place I've ever been to or have seen. Roberto and staff were phenomenal. Everything was beyond my wildest dreams. The water was beautiful. The resort was pristine and meticulously kept. The...More
We arrived after booking an excursion with Native Choice and are glad we did. This place is beautiful and unspoiled. If you're looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place to go. ITs quiet, and the lake is amazing. We kayaked, swam, played on...More
Coming off a really awful place on another part of the lake, the Bacalar Lagoon Resort was definitely a step up. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. Everything seemed to be well run, the little cottages are cute, very clean and have just enough...More

We walked (along with others who were obviously going to the same place for a variety of tours) about 2-3 blocks to the Native Tours office. They provided a bus and tour guide to the ruins (very interesting) and then took us by a specially built vehicle (see below) for a delicious lunch and lovely afternoon at Bacalar. The trip back to the ship was only about 45 min. as I recall. We would advise not to rent a car and try it on your own because the access road to the resort is very long and extremely rough - you could tear up a rental vehicle, even a high clearance one. Get in touch w/ Native Tours or the resort itself.
