Ecuador got the unique hotel build with pumice stone The house was ordered built at the beginning of the eighteenth century by the Marquis de Miraflores. Here lived the General Manuel Tomas Maldonado and housing was in the hands of his heirs for over 150 years until it was acquired and renovated and converted into a hotel. Pumice of this house was formed by rapid cooling of a lava-rich gases. In volcanic areas like Latacunga, where the pumice was plentiful, it was used for foundations in traditional houses and walls built to stop dividing land or properties.

The hotel is a renovated old building, so it has charming architectural details but is also modern and livable. It's made of pumice blocks (volcanic stone full of bubbles like natural styrofoam, so it's not freezing like many places in Latacunga.

Where to Start? How about mold in the room that agrivated my wife’s respiratory issues. Scuffed wall paper, dirt on floor, spotty internet (unaccessable more than operable), lackadaisical staff, door that didn’t lock, decoration falling off wall, stained pillow case, limited hot water, towels had to be requested both nights. Don’t stay here!

The hotel is pretty enough, located in a historic house, with a lovely courtyard in the heart of the old city. You can walk from here easily to the old squares and visit the beautiful colonial buildings. But the service ranged from rude to indifferent. Our reception upon our arrival was chaotic with the staff not knowing which rooms were ours and the location of the keys. The breakfast was mediocre. I can't recommend this hotel nor would I ever return there.

you won‘t make a fault booking this location. staff is very friendly and supporting, also roomservice will be offered if necessary. internet connection works fine, not fast at all but guiet good. the room was equipped with a radiator, which was very essential during our stay (more than one day of rain ... and the temperature drops). also a hairdryer is part of the equipment. beds are comfortable and the shower is warm. only the walls seem to be badly soundproofed when neighbors aren‘t that silent.
