This is a lovely place with gorgeous birds. You do need rubber boots (not provided) to walk the (unmarked) trails. The food was excellent, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. And truly outstanding coffee. However, the owners/hosts are not attuned to the needs of their clients. It took three requests to get water in our cabin and one couple never...

Perhaps the best things about Reserva El Jaguar is that is off the beaten path. It feels so authentic and you feel like you're really in the jungle of the central highlands of Nicaragua. There are a lot of great coffee farms in the Jinotega area that offer lodging and activities. This place is unique, because it feels very isolated...

My bf and I stayed here for three nights in April, a time normally very humid in Nicaragua. Whilst the rest of the country suffered from extreme heat and humidity, we were in this wonderful reserve. Really lets you experience the real jungle life whilst enjoying great company from the owners and traditional Nica food cooked by a local family....

We stayed at El Jaguar for two nights and had a wonderful experience. I am an avid birder and this is clearly a must visit for birders. Moises is a wonderful guide who took us out several times and helped us find lots of birds. The birding is good enough that my family (not hardcore birders) were really engaged. Birds...

I went to photograph birds and was not disappointed! The food is good typical Nica food. The staff are all friendly and helpful but Moises was an absolutely wonderful birding guide. I stayed 3 nights and photographed 34 species of birds and every hike was fruitful!

This is quite literally the number one birding hotspot in Nicaragua, with 339 (and counting!) species recorded on the property according to eBird. More importantly, however, the Reserve El Jaguar is a conservation success story where the owners got it exactly right: a harmonious mix of bird-friendly coffee and forest that provides prime winter habitat for many Neotropical migrants such...

I found my 3 day trip to El Jaguar really rewarding, the highlight of my 10 days in Nicaragua. I came away with an appreciation for Central American birds and an insight into the conservation model in place at the reserve. I was extremely well looked after throughout, and all the people I met were first rate. The accommodation has...

We had three nights at El Jaguar in Dec. Our accommodation was comfortable and the food was good. This is a fantastic spot if you are into birding. The owners have authored the only bird book on Nicaraguan birds. They work with the U S Audabon society on research into bird numbers, etc. as there are feeders for the hummers...

There are newer bungalows, can’t say much about them, because I stayed in one of the “older” houses. Each one has 2 double rooms with one shared bathroom (with hot water!) and a little kitchen and veranda with a beautiful view. The rooms are quite simple and the bed was comfortable but with only one blanket (I asked for another...

We spent 5 nights and enjoyed the great hiking trails, the bird watching and the good food and coffee. We felt very welcome and learnt a lot about birds, coffee and Nicaragua. Our acommodation was a small bungalow, clean and comfortable. This is really a great place for nature and birds-lovers.
