Centara Kata Resort Phuket garners mixed feelings among guests; its spacious and clean rooms are a hit, yet some visitors suggest the decor is dated and in need of a refresh. The resort's multiple pools and family-friendly amenities are well-liked, but guests have called out maintenance issues.
While the staff's attentive service earns praise, opinions on value and atmosphere are divided; overpriced features and inconsistent vibes, ranging from child-friendly to disruptively noisy, leave some travelers wanting. Its central location is a highlight, offering easy access to local attractions.

I had booked a King pool access room with no kids. Centara delivered with the room which was large enough to not bump into items around the place, and I could walk out through sheer curtains to the patio then to the pool. Each room had hanging for wet stuff. It was perfect for those balmy nights and for just lazing during the day. The resort had 3 pools, one for the kids and the other 2 for those who don't want kid noises 24/7. The curved pool is the kids area where the sound is amplified because of close quarters. Great bar to sit at, at night for that nightcap. Too many places to eat around the place so didn't eat at the resort, during the evening happy hour though they offer 2 for 1 so can have one cocktail and get a substantial snack for free. The resort has plenty of eateries around and plenty of money exchange booths up and down the street. The beach is about 6 mins walk up the road and the local bus to either Patong, Phuket or the airport is just out on the main road. 40bht to Phuket and 100bht to others. The airport bus is a smart bus but does take 2 hours. The staff are very friendly and customer focused. Lai our concierge was very helpful and a great driver. I would stay here again if I was to stay in Kata again.

We stayed as a family with 2 kids and the resort was everything we needed. The family suite had a separate bathroom for the kids off of their bedroom and ample shared space in the middle.
We loved the pool and our kids were entertained on the waterslide and in the pool for hours. A great range of drinks and food at the swim up bar (including fruit smoothies for kids) but cheaper options are available off site.
We went during September/October and did not have to get up at 6am to reserve a banana lounge, there was always plenty of space by the pool with a mix of couples and families. However this may be different during peak times.
Excellent location next to Palm Square which is close to many shops, restaurants and places to get a massage. 7-11 just around the corner for snacks if you don’t want to use the mini-bar. Kata beach is about a 15 min walk south along Kata Road but they provide a free shuttle several times a day.
Kata Night Market, KT Place and Dino Mini Golf are also within walking distance. We had dinner close by every night and never had trouble finding places to eat, shop and be entertained. The resort also have live music some nights as well.
The resort offers a laundry service, but we did not use it as there are more options off site. If you want to go even cheaper again, there are laundromats also nearby. Clothes airers are on every balcony, 2 if you had a double room like us. Great for hanging out wet pool swimmers.
The included breakfast had an excellent choice of hot food like eggs and pancakes, as well as cereal, fruit and other Thai/Asian food. A coffee machine is available for guests to use or you can get coffees made to order (for a price).
Overall we felt as though this was a great family resort. We used the kids club once while we went and got massages and the kids were very happy. We came back to our oldest asleep (at 6pm!)
The kids also liked patting the resort cat near the pool towel check out and enjoyed swimming in the two main pools and using the waterslide and water volleyball net and a selection of pool inflatables. The staff were very friendly and attentive, helping when we needed them. Everything was always kept very clean around the resort, including the rooms, grounds and common areas.
Thank you for such a great time!

This is a centrally located hotel in Kata Beach set back from the main strip, about 600mtrs from the actual beach. There is a free shuttle provided by the hotel to the beach. We spent 5 nights here, as the last stop on a tour around our first visit to Thailand. The stand out for this establishment are the staff themselves, people doing a demanding and not always appreciated job with a smile and a sense of humour. Nan on front desk, trying to sort our dated TV out, and it fixing itself miraculously while we joked about it. I'm sure she had a switch under the desk! Nok on housekeeping always having time to show interest in what her guests were up to on that day with a smile. Making a fantastic towel elephant for our room on her last day before having her days off, very many thanks for that. Breakfast was excellent, providing a very varied selection for the various nationalities. A lovely smile and sarwedee ka from egg Chef each morning, and staff working hard to seat larger groups on tables moved around to suit the guests wants, sometimes difficult to achieve but doing their best. We had in another hotel on this trip, where moving tables was a no no. There are 3 pools provided in different locations around the property, each with a different atmosphere. Our nearest one over the balcony was regularly scrubbed and treated. The security gents, so polite to guests doing their job with a smile, I had a lovely chat with one them, such an interesting few minutes. The hotel does look tired in some areas, but it does what it says on the box. Please fix the elephants ear on the poolside of the smaller complex. Nearby a very wide choice of restaurants and bars. This is a good family holiday hotel.

Honest review. So I will start with the rooms. I had no issues with the rooms. They were cleaned daily although the cleaner came at 5:00pm other days it would be 12midday. The rooms were of good size and not shabby . Breakfast- all the pastries breads and fruits fresh food was not covered and there were always a lot of flys which were off putting. The selection of hot food changes daily and it was ok. On a whole it was just ok. You won't go Hungry. Entertainment- no free entertainment for the kids. No daily entertainment at all. Music by the one pool is so low and the same tracks played day in day out. If you're a smoker you will be told you can't smoke and I'm talking cigarettes. You're out in the open air so what difference does it make. Put a small mini speaker on that was playing low and soft music I was told to turn that off. Summary. Hotel ok breakfast area a bit outdated. And covers needed to stop flys doing what we all know they do on food left open. Entertainment well this was disappointing if you like entertainment music or smoking don't come here you will be bored senseless. Some days you want to relax in ur hotel with a drink and a cigarette .. you can't do that here you will be sent up to the reception area to smoke. Never experienced this anywhere I've stayed. You can smoke on ur balcony which overlooks the pool but not by the pool. Make this make sense.

In August of this year, my partner and I stayed at the Centara Katra Resort Phuket during our first trip to Thailand, which we booked through Trip A Deal. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel's quality, as all the staff members, from reception to maintenance, were friendly and welcoming. Our room, number 8203, was situated at the back of the property, which had its pros and cons. One of the drawbacks was that it was 220 meters from the resort's entrance, which can be tiring to walk back and forth several times a day in the hot and humid weather. Also, the rooms at that end of the resort have yet to be renovated, according to other guests. However, the location was next to one of the three pools, making it feel like we had a private pool and quiet and relaxing. The room was spacious, with a large bathroom and a comfortable bed, and the pool view was enjoyable to watch while sitting outside in the afternoon. Our package includes daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Seasons restaurant, which offers a wide variety of fresh and delicious food. The resort was well-maintained and clean. Our tour agent, Sonya, was fantastic and arranged unique activities during our stay. The resort is a short walk from 7/11, with bars, night markets, massages, laundromats and more. While you can purchase drinks and cocktails at the resort, buying them from 7/11 or nearby bars and restaurants is much cheaper, where the prices are substantially lower, sometimes as much as 120 BHAT. In the future, I wouldn't mind staying at the Centara again.

The area is not small, 3 swimming pools, several buildings with rooms. The room with access to the pool is quite spacious, has everything you need - safe, refrigerator, kettle, water, shampoo, shower gel. I didn’t like that it was very humid in the room and the air conditioning didn’t help. They cleaned it every day and replenished the water.
15 minutes walk to the sea with a child. This is a huge minus. There is a shuttle, but it is not very convenient to adapt to it.
Breakfast is varied - noodles, rice, eggs Benedict, ham and sausages, muesli, bread, pastries, omelettes, lots of fruits and vegetables, juices (such as Jupi).
The pools are not particularly clean, there is a children's area and one small slide.
The child really liked the children's room. The Thai nanny speaks little English, but uses a translator on her phone and gets along well with children. They even played hide and seek with her)
The gym is excellent, open 24 hours a day. There is water, towels and even wet towels in the refrigerator.
The staff is friendly, especially the concierge Lai.

We rested with my husband at the end of September 23. Upon arrival at the reception, I asked to be accommodated in the “quiet zone” - since it was not the season and apparently there were free rooms - not only were they accommodated us there, they also gave us a free upgrade to a family room (2 rooms with a living room). The room itself is not new, but everything worked, everything was clean, beautiful, tidy, I had nothing to complain about - and I can do this with 5+. Our weather was different - but during the rain it didn’t bother us to find something to do at the hotel - table tennis, billiards (billiards 20 baht per game, tennis free). The breakfasts are amazing: very varied, you can find a dish to suit your taste. They also serve different fruits every day! But the main thing is that everything is delicious. For any questions or problems, contact the reception, they always helped us. The hotel area itself is very beautiful, just a tropical paradise, very well-groomed, all the bushes are neatly trimmed, it’s a feast for the eyes! There are three swimming pools - one small square one, just in the “quiet zone”, there are no children there and it’s calm - I went there to lie down with a book. The second pool with elephants is large, square, there are also not many people there usually, but it is noisier, but there is a cafe nearby) and the third is the most beautiful and noisy))) in the form of a river, emerald color, with a slide for children and a jacuzzi for adults - there’s always a crowd on it, music from the water bar is playing and that’s where the main people are. Depending on my mood, I chose a place for myself - very convenient! But I never felt overcrowding or crampedness in the hotel - maybe because of the low season, but it seems to me that the idea of zoning also makes itself felt. Sea. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the sea at a calm pace - along the way you can buy juices, fruits, beer, whatever) and every hour a nice and talkative driver takes people (and picks them up from the beach) to the sea on a company minibus (there is a special schedule). In general, considering that this is not my first visit to Thailand, I was extremely pleased with the hotel.

Pools are not big but more than adequate. Breakfast is refilled until the end. You can always find a table pretty quickly. The food is also good in terms of taste, the only drawback is the coffee, which is not always my taste in Thailand. Staff are always friendly and try to help you. The rooms are not super modern but perfectly adequate and acceptable. The highlight of the hotel is the location within walking distance of Kata and Karon Beach. In the evenings there are numerous restaurants where you can eat very well. The choice of food ranges from European tourist restaurants that do not offer so spicy food to authentic Thai. There are bars with sports broadcasts and/or live music, night market etc.
In summary, you can say that a hotel that is clean and does nothing wrong with a fantastic location where you can decide what you want to do depending on what you feel like doing.

Just arrived and so far not a great experience. Paid for a pool access family room for kids to access the pool easily (1 meter deep) therefore safer for kids. However they gave us a room near adults area 1.5m deep and won't change. Manager at reception not helpful and was lying about the pool depth. Not good. British adults with small children should avoid this hotel

We, family with 1.5 and 3.5 years old kids, stay 5 nights in this hotel. Overall stay is pleasant. Family suit is quite small and room needs more maintenance. Safe buttons do not work properly, maybe better check battery more often. Smelly bathroom.
Breakfast provides variety of food. Staffs are friendly.
Food from Waves restaurant we aren’t happy about. Food we ordered was cold when it was at our table. We recommend the restaurant on the opposite of the road or other restaurants along the road which is more delicious with reasonable price.
Swimming pools are nice and good for the kids. Play hotel is a good addition to the hotel. Our kids had fun there.
