After last year's premiere we went to Lantosque again for several reasons: amazing roads, incredible views, and the hospitality of Peter and Stuart of the Les Hortensias. Our expectations were greatly fullfilled in every aspect. Just as last year, we used Les Hortensias as base for daily motorcycle trips. There is plenty of curvy roads in the area, the range includes Col de la Bonette, Gorges du Verdon, Col de Turini...the density of curvy roads even tops the one of South Tyrol... Also if one wants to hike there is plenty to do in Lantosque, though we never tried that (yet). But Peter and Stuart are always willing to assist with suggestions. The motorcycles were again savely parked under the carport. The room and breakfast were very good as ever. We always look forward to the bed in the room in Les Hortensias, it is very comfy and large. The outside sitting place had been improved with a curtain againast the wind, which proved to be very useful, as this year we also had 2 rather not so good days in terms of the weather. As we had some experience with guests from the US that had evidently come with wrong expectations, here is what you will find in Les Hortensias: - very tidy rooms with a relaxing bed and nice baths, all showing a lot of attention to detail - free and fast WLAN - a lot of space in the pool/terrasse area - very tasty breakfast with fresh fuit/croissants - a nice sitting place/outside kitchen where one can make barbeque or prepare other kind of meals - parking place for car/motorcycles - two super helpful and caring hosts What you will not find: - services that a big 50 bed hotel would provide - a place that is easy to reach with public transportation (you can do a lot from Lantosque even to get to Nice by bus, but as for a daily trip to the mountains or the supermarket, coming with a vehicle of your own is highly recommended). We love it at Les Hortensias, if you know what to expect you will not be disappointed at all. A very nice place to spend relaxing days and refill your own batteries.

We stayed in Les Hortensias close to two weeks and used it as a base for daily motorcycle trips. All the house and surroundings are arranged and decorated with a lot of attention to detail. You feel at home rather instantly. Peter, the host is always helpful and very flexible e.g. about the timing of breakfast etc. He is also always open for suggestions made by the guests. The rooms are very clean and the bed is stupendous. You always look forward to fall into a relaxing, deep sleep at the end of the days. Those start with a real highlight, the well prepared breakfast with fresh fruit and all kinds of cereals and croissants etc. Peter also has a lot of information about the area and activities that one can try. The pool and garden/terrace area are very well arranged and the possibility to do barbeque outside is a great opportunity to prepare yummy food and relax in the evenings. The area has a lot to offer, especially for motorcycle riders. Being able to reach the Col de la Bonette or the Gorge du Verdon and on the other hand having the Col de Turini and Col de Braus right at the front door leaves one with a lot of options for different tours. Even visiting the Côte d'Azur would be possible. All in all a perfect place to stay and live some relaxing days in a family like atmosphere. Won't have been our last stay in Les Hortensias.

We have just returned from the most beautiful stay at Les Hortensias. We had no idea we would find ourselves in such a beautiful oasis surrounded by the craggy mountains of the Alpes-Maritimes in a quaint and beautiful village with its church bells pealing Dvorjak’s New World Symphony across the valley. We were lucky enough to see an eagle and we could hear the goats with their bells in the distance. Les Hortensias guest suite was second to none, impeccably clean, the most comfortable king size bed with beautiful linen. The room was stylish and streamlined with doors opening on to the fabulous views over the mountains. The quietest air conditioning was available if required; a very smart grey tiled en suite shower room was stocked with l’Occitane products. Fresh bottles of water were put in our room each day and coffee and tea laid out for guests. Our hosts Peter and Stuart looked after us like royalty in a very discreet way. The breakfast was pure luxury with their signature tropical fruit platter served at the table and freshly baked croissants from the local village boulangerie. Freshly squeezed juice, coffee and a variety of teas made a wonderful start to the day, all served under a stone pillared gazebo overlooking the pool, garden and mountains. The outdoor kitchen is a great addition with fridge for keeping the all-important rose and drinks cool. We couldn’t have asked for more, it was pure unadulterated heaven on earth. Thank you for the most wonderful find. We will be back!

A lovingly restored and modernised traditional villa, just on the edge of the historic and picturesque village of Lantosque. We have stayed in Les Hortensias for a couple of years now and will be returning again next year, I am sure. The villa, situated in its well maintained landscaped gardens, has been thoughtfully restored with all the modern luxuries that make you sigh in relaxation once you step inside. Air conditioning, modern en-suite bathrooms, luxurious bedding, entertainment systems, fast WiFi .... In the garden there is a sizeable pool with outside shower, shaded dining area, barbecue and outside kitchen with sink and fridge. Breakfast was served at the time of our choice either on the terrace above the villa or in the dining area by the pool. It was pretty special, including a spectacular fruit platter amongst other home-made delicacies, all presented as you would expect in a 5 star luxury hotel ! We used the area by the pool to BBQ and look after ourselves during the day and evening. We were able to stock the fridge with food, wine and beer and it felt like home from home. But much nicer ;0) Peter, the owner, tends to his vegetable patch but also looks after you in a professional, friendly but unobtrusive way. You couldn't ask for more. One night we opted to have dinner cooked by Peter by the pool. I really recommend the chicken stuffed with cheese and herbs. This place is a real gem. A tranquil oasis in the spectacular Maritime Alps. We are so lucky to have found it.

We had a fantastic stay at Les Hortensias last month. Having spend a couple of weeks down on the coast visiting the gorgeous coastal towns of Juan Les Pins, Cannes, Antibes and Nice, we took a scenic 40 min drive to spend the last few days of our holidays exploring the mountains. Les Hortensias presented us with most unexpected luxury in a rural and rustic setting, there was certainly nothing else like it in the valley. The rooms were stylish in decor - the beds/pillows were extremely comfortable, the air conditioning very quiet and most effective, the ensuite was very spacious with both bath and shower. Our bedroom had doors that opened onto a little terrace where we sat for coffee in the mornings whilst taking in the stunning mountain views. We were served a delicious breakfast on the terrace by the host Peter, who couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. Peter is very knowledgeable about the area (and indeed the French Riviera in general) and gave us directions for some beautiful walks in the Gordolasque valley where we had a lovely picnic (Peter can provide picnics with a bit of notice). The mountain air is so fresh, what a beautiful place. Lantosque itself is a quaint little village, it has a few bars and restaurants which, while rustic, provide good quality food at very reasonable prices. After a lazy afternoon by the pool at Les Hortensias (which was a most unexpected benefit of staying here) we went into the town for a pizza supper and including wine spent less than €35 with lovely, friendly service. I can't recommend it enough and we will definitely be going back - so much more to explore!

We spent a long week-end atLes Hortensias my wife and I while we were hiking in the area. Peter welcomed us warmly and made our stay as enjoyable as possible. The breakfasts were fantastic with fresh fruits and croissants ...The room offered all the amenities of a 4-star hotel. A very nice place to stay in Lantosque.

We booked in to stay at Les Hortensias in September last year because after a few days on the coast we wanted to get up in to the Alpes Maritimes and explore the area. And Les Hortensias was such find - the style and quality of accommodation in such a rural area was quite unexpected and we couldn't recommend it more highly. Peter and Stuart will recommend hikes, excursions, restaurants in the very pretty local village and they are such welcoming and relaxed hosts that we felt equally comfortable lounging by their pool in the afternoons when we got back to the villa. We were 2 adult couples and the 2 guest bedrooms downstairs felt very spacious with access to your own private guest terrace and I imagine that it would also be a great space for a family. Thank you Peter and Stuart and we hope to be able to book in with you again for more hiking this September.

I stayed here earlier in the year on a trip to the south of France. I wanted to get out of Nice for a couple of days and was looking for a base from which to explore the area and found Les Hortensias. I have to say I wasn't expecting to find such a well appointed B&B in a more rural location like Lantosque (tho I'm delighted I did) and there was no comparison compared to the other accommodation options in the area. The rooms are lovely, the ensuite very swish and, unlike more traditional B&Bs, there's not that dreaded feeling of your host being in the next room as the guest rooms are very much self contained with their own terrace etc which I really liked. The hosts (who are from the UK) were very welcoming, highly knowledgeable about the local area and what I also really liked was having the option to explore from the house or, as I did one one of my days, simply to sit by the pool or wander into the village for lunch. Lantosque itself is quite small but there's a couple of decent cafe bars and exploring the village is a pleasant way to spend an hour or so. As I discovered there's lots to do nearby and places to visit, but a car or bike is essential. Or, if you're of a mind there's also the potential to try some challenging runs up some very steep roads - not advisable after a glass of rose. I'd very much recommend it and am hoping to go back later in the year.

A real gem - we searched for a good base for our walking weekend and found this! Good location, an easy drive from Nice airport and some amazing views - both from the village and the surrounding areas. Felt as if we really did 'get away from it all'. Would recommend.
