The Koulen Hotel garners praise for its spacious, well-appointed rooms and immaculate cleanliness, with guests particularly enjoying the comfortable amenities and fresh linens. A charming and peaceful atmosphere is lauded by many, as is the hotel's prime location close to cultural heritage walks and local markets.
While the affordable spa and good value food are appreciated, guests have called out the pricey airport transfers. Service at the hotel is frequently commended, although some additional services come at a higher cost.

Detailed Reviews
We chose Koulen Hotel in Siem Reap—and we’re so glad we did! It’s just a five-minute tuk-tuk ride to the Old Market, a three-minute walk to the Royal Residence, and right next to a huge shopping mall. In short, it's one of the best locations to stay in the city.
I’m not sure if Cambodian people are traditionally this hospitable, but the hotel staff were incredibly welcoming, helpful, and genuinely kind. When we were leaving, all the reception staff came out to the front of the hotel to say goodbye, as if a family member was heading off on a long trip. It was such a warm and memorable gesture!
Breakfast offers a wide variety of options, from authentic Cambodian cuisine to Western dishes, catering to every taste.
The beds and pillows are super comfortable—just as cozy as the ones at home. Sheets, pillowcases, and towels are changed daily and are always fresh, spotless, and crisp white.
The rooms are huge—and when I say huge, I mean it! Each unit consists of a spacious bedroom, a small kitchen, a dining table, and a living area. The entire hotel is immaculately clean.
I highly, highly recommend this place!

In contrast to all other hotel guests, who normally only spend a few days in this hotel, we were guests for almost 3 weeks. Therefore, our rating may be a little different to that of regular guests who use this hotel as a perfect starting point for a visit to Angkor Wat.
In general, this hotel can be highly recommended!
It is perfectly located in the old French quarter of Siem Reap. The district is very beautiful. There are wide sidewalks, many restaurants and shops, everything is generally well maintained and invites you to explore the area around the hotel.
The hotel itself is a small oasis. The pool is very large and beautiful. We also liked the rooms and other hotel facilities such as the gym, spa, and restaurant.
The entire staff is very friendly and concerned about the well-being of the guests.
Small things could be improved. However, these are things that you probably only notice if you stay for a longer period of time. For example, the room cleaning was always good enough. However, we noticed that towards the end of our stay, the housekeeping became a little sloppy. The breakfast has enough variety. The fact that there is only filter coffee and tea on the buffet and you have to pay extra for all other hot drinks (e.g. cappuccino, espresso) is no longer quite up to date. Our room had a huge balcony. However, there were only two chairs and a table there. It would be great if they could put some loungers and a parasol there, for example.

First: the staff were amazing and polite! Literally every single staff from housekeeping to the kitchen to check in to the gardeners- everyone was/is amazing and accommodating and very very respectful. They helped me with everything from tuktuk to the local
Psar (market)/Wat, to sunset/sunrise tours, and even getting me more banana chips to bring back to my family. I cannot express how amazing the staff was. The level of professionalism is unmatched.
Second: the location is literally across the street from the heritage walk which has various food options, coffee options, and other small shops. It's also located near the royal palace and many local restaurants that were delicious.
Third: the hotel and property is very well kept. The rooms were huge! Spacious! And it remained cool even when we were exploring all day!
Fourth: WiFi was great! My daughter had some online courses to finish while we were there and she was able to get a lot of work done.
Fifth: the breakfast buffet was superb! So many options from an egg/omelette station, to a noodle/pho station, to fresh fruits and many other traditional Khmer options.
When I come back to Siem Reap, this will be my Go-To location!!! I just adore everything about this hotel!

Fabulous hotel and staff - I can’t recommend it highly enough! The staff are wonderful, the hotel location is great, it’s immaculately clean, the pool area is a real relaxing oasis and the overall feel is one of calm. The breakfast was good too. If I ever return to Siem Reap, this will be where I’ll return. I loved my stay here. They even provided me with a breakfast box including a sandwich, fruit and bottled water when I left at 04:30 for a sunrise tour of Angkor Wat. Exceptional service by all staff and the photos don’t do justice to the pool area which is beautiful.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff very efficient and friendly. There was a wide choice for breakfast reflecting local and international flavours. Swimming pool and service around the pool area very good. Location is an easy 15 minute (2$ tuktuk) walk from the main pub area. The room was very spacious. The hotel arranged my trip to Angkor Wat and othe sites and the arrangements worked perfectly I congratulate myself on selecting this hotel for a four night stay.

The hotel is very centrally located and within walking distance of the old town. The complex is spacious, well-maintained and also offers decent sports facilities with a fairly large pool and well-equipped gym. The service staff is generally very accommodating and polite. The room, on the other hand, was very large, clean and was cleaned properly. It was also nice that you could leave your luggage there on the day of departure and use the pool.
Despite all the positives, I had the impression that the hotel was very focused on "making money". For example, when I left and returned to the hotel, I was regularly asked what I was planning to do, where I wanted to eat, whether I already had a driver, what time I was expected to check out and who was taking me to the airport. I found that to be intrusive. The airport transfer offered by the hotel costs $50.00, twice as much as the local taxi drivers charge. Drivers to Angkor Wat provided by the hotel are charged at a comparatively high price, of which the driver himself only receives a fraction. If you sit by the pool and get up just once, an employee with a bill will immediately be standing next to you, which gives you the feeling that you are constantly being watched.
Perhaps these are small things that add to the overall good and well-kept impression of the complex. However, they would make me reconsider booking again.

Although it is located in the central area in Siem Reap, the design and setup really makes you feel in a remote SEA resort once you enter the hotel. I observed they operate the hotel in the same way as those big hotel chains, and definitely beats the two Hyatt I stayed this year.
We had great experience from booking till departure. The staff were quite responsive in WhatsApp and email for my enquiry before my travel, and were very friendly and helpful during our entire stay. Airport pick up and check in was seamless. The 3 bedroom family suite we stayed in was very very spacious and clean (we ran into two small episodes of bathroom facility issues - probably due to low maintenance during covid, but they fixed for us in no time ). The pool was very enjoyable with excellent bar service. Breakfast surprisingly beat my expectation with egg and noodle stations and table service - they even remember our choice of coffee/tea after a while.
Pub Street is in walking distance and only cost USD2 for a tuk tuk ride. There is also a shopping mall and a supermarket right next block.

Pleasant hotel. The two bedroom suite had a large sitting area and two good sized bedrooms. The hotel is located in a quiet area but is still within walking distance of the very lively Pub Street which has a wide selection of restaurants. The spa is reasonably priced. The breakfast with Asian and Western options was adequate. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Everything about this hotel is excellent. The suites are huge and beautifully appointed, the pool area is a luxurious tropical oasis with a poolside bar and menu, and the buffet breakfast has every option available, including a chef’s station for any requests. The Koulen restaurant is elegant and the traditional Cambodian dishes are far better than pub street and similar prices. And then there’s the staff who are so helpful, friendly and efficient! We cannot recommend The Koulen Hotel more highly! Thank you for our wonderful stay!

The entrance to the Koulen Hotel is tasteful and dignified without revealing the exclusively private luxury inside. The rooms are large suites of one, two, or three bedrooms. The living rooms are of a size rarely seen in modern hotels; yet, they have every modern convenience, including a kitchen and excellent WIFI. The rooms face onto a landscaped garden with a large pool aned beautiful art. It is an oasis, inviting the guests to wander among the beautiful trees, sit and read, work, or take a swim.
Located in the heart of the old French quarter, the parks of the royal palace are just around the corner, and the river is only one block away. I deal location for anyone who enjoys walking.
The attentive and well-trained staff makes the Koulen Hotel ideal for someone who wants to live in an apartment but have all the service of a luxury hotel. A home of Luxury in a Country of Great Cultural Heritage. Come for a few days, but stay as long as you want. I booked for a week but stayed for a month.

When we stayed at Koulen a few months ago they messaged us a few days before arrival to ask our flight number and arrival time as they include a free one time pick up in their price. They were there with our name on a sign when we arrived.
