The Old Gin House was a nice location in association with the Scubaqua Dive Shop. The rooms were good and the location to upper town was right at the bottom, only a short walk up a hill. There is maintenance going on to help spruce up the place. I would stay here again as they accommodated our large group with ease. They are located right on the water and you can see all of the old warehouse ruins from when the island used to be a large port for trade in the 16 and 1700s.

We enjoyed our three night stay at the Old Gin House. Granted, it has tired and somewhat shabby quality to it, and it certainly does not provide a luxury or 5 star experience. Nevertheless, it has a great location, an engaging historical quality and an excellent restaurant. As well, our waterfront suite was clean and spacious, and we loved the sound of the waves at night. The staff took very good care of us, and the Margaritas served in the bar are perhaps the best we have ever had. The dive shop is next door as is another excellent restaurant, the Barrelhouse.

The photos shown on the Old Gin House website do not accurately depict this hotel -- they are several years old. We booked for a 7 day stay at this hotel, and were very excited when we arrived. The Old Gin House had great reviews and lovely pictures. Unfortunately, though, upon our arrival we thought things looked somewhat shabby, yet when we awoke the next morning, our thoughts from the night before became reality and worse. Everything n the hotel appeared in disrepair, from our room to the pool. The pool was green and completely non-usable. Paint was peeling from doors, steps, balconies and pretty much everywhere you looked. There were no taps or shower head in our bathtub making it completely non-operational, although a usable shower was adjacent to the tub, Two cans of insecticide sat beside the sink. The door to the small balcony barely opened, and as we squeezed through the opening to the balcony, a mop and pail greeted us. Rusty equipment, bird feces, and worn furniture made the deck unpleasant. The small chairs and table were covered in dust/dirt making us not want to sit outside. Looking down from our balcony to the sea, we noticed much of the concrete had crumbled from what used to be a place to relax on chaise lounges, yet now, only concrete fragements remained. Everywhere we looked it became very apparent that this hotel had not been maintained nor repaired in years. We felt very uncomfortable staying in the hotel and paying $295 US per night. Consequently, we asked for a refund of the emaining 6 nights. Fortunately, the front desk clerk obliged and refunded our money without much difficulty. We then obtained a rental car and found a much nicer place for our stay on Statia. Our advice, If you intend to stay at this hotel, ask for current photos before you book.

We had an amazing week at the Old Gin house. We stayed in a 2 room suite. Our balcony faced the Caribbean ocean. The sunset were spectacular and we could see nearby Saba island. Housekeeping pampered us by cleaning our room everyday. The attached restaurant had the most amazing menu. You couldn't ask more from the staff. Marlies, Sybolt, Esther and everyone else made you feel like family.

Great week spent at Old Gin house. We stayed in the oceanfront king room and it was wonderful. Great view of the ocean, spacious room and bathroom. Mini fridge in room was nice to have also. The hotel itself is well run, owner and staff are all terrific and friendly. Good at the restaurant was also great! Overall would highly recommend and will definitely book again if we come back. Thanks for a wonderful week. Note: we dove all week with Scubaqua dive shop (review submitted for them also) and they were great. Literally 2 doors down from the hotel

The Old Gin House is a historic site on top of being one of the few establishments located near/on the waterfront to stay on St. Eustatius. We came in very late off the ferry and our key, and information was waiting for us at the front desk so we had no delay in getting into our room. From a divers perspective, everything we needed was available in the hotel. A mini fridge, and two bottles of water were supplied daily, as well as a full breakfast at The Old Gin House Restaurant every morning. The rooms are basic and contain a desk, double beds (or pushed together for a couple), an armoire for hanging/storing clothes and a couple of the night stands. The bathroom was large enough with a dual shower head walk in shower. The rooms and hotel are a bit on the older side, and no where near a high end resort. Divers will be completely satisfied with the amenities. A private pool, chairs and towels were provided for daily use. We had room service every day to freshen up the room. The hotel is close to the two dive operators on the island (walking distance), and several other restaurants in the area. It was also close to the slave trail road up the side of the hill and led you up to where Ft. Orange is located. The town is quaint, and does offer some additional dining options and a grocery store. Lot's of history here, and adventures to the other side of the island, volcano tours, additional dining options etc., were easy to arrange. If you are a non diver, most tourist options can be seen in a couple of days. It is great to see that this island hasn't been touched by cruise ships, and it truly is a gem in the Caribbean. Only downside is the number of wild chickens roaming the island and having an early alarm call well before sunrise.......

we stayed in the apartment which had full fridge, stove and microwave, a great rainshower in the bathroom. It did not have an oceanview but we are allowed to walk through the open air restaurant which had comfy seating and great views right on the water and we spent a lot of time there. Bring binoculars. Great lunch and dinner. The apartment has a great bed, good closet space and airconditioning the bedroom and living room. Bring to Amazon Firestick if you want to watch TV. Safe and quiet. The only coffee pot took expresso pods. At least that helped me be on time to the dive shop. We will stay there on our next dive trip

I went for a businesstrip and it was the first choice as per other colleagues it wasn't a bad place. When i got there , i had to call the hotel while sitting for more then an hour in the lobby for someone to check me in.(i was the only one they were expecting so it wasnt busy at that moment due to my late flight). My receptionist was stading miles away from me while screaming the times when restaurant will be open. No one to help with suitcase, rooms were old, unkept and moldy. I got a room on 2nd floor, no elevator. I had to close the curtain as someone passing in hallway can see me lying on my bed!

We stayed in room 301 -- the "royal suite" -- and very much enjoyed the space and the view. Could dry things on the balcony under an overhang. Good food, group breakfast, mostly pleasant staff. The hotel was arranged through a diving package from Scubaqua.

The Old Gin House is wonderful. It is convenient to the 2 dive shops on the island and has a friendly helpful staff that makes things right. The restaurant servers more meat that I would like but there is always a catch of the day. We shall return. Remember it is small island and everyone need to make a living from the taxi drivers to the dive shop operators.
