I chanced upon this private island near Singapore and was so excited to bring my family there for an island escape.
My 5 year old son was looking forward to a beach holiday but when I shared with him there was no television and aircon, he was kinda worried on the ferry.
When we arrived at check in, everything was so smooth and perfect my son forgot all about television and air-conditioning.
The first thing that impresses me most is the staff, ALL OF THEM was amazing i cannot stress that anymore. ALL of the team was just too good to be true. I couldn't find one single grumpy staff, its like they are always having a good day and they in turn make your day beautiful as well.
I asked Reny and Yudi what time does the bar close, and their reply was
"There are no rules on Nikoi Island, you are on a holiday and we don't want you to stress about anything, the bar will be open until the last guests decides to leave" 😉
That was the start of us knowing its a perfect holiday. Everything and everyone was great on the island, from the food to the sand to the clear blue waters & the kids club.
My son didn't want to leave Nikoi island and he made a new best friend Angus who handcrafted awesome wooden toys, taught him how to climb a tree and how to play table tennis
He learnt how to snorkel with the professional help of Gali.

Herdi, Leon, Freddy, May, Vega, Baltasar, Yudi, Reny and Gali are the names we fondly remember for our family having such a great time at Nikoi.

You have an amazing team, Nikoi!

Our second annual visit to Nikoi and we booked it even before leaving the first time!. The place is as magical as it was before and the staff are lovely, food is fantastic. However I noticed a few changes - the kids club seems to have fewer activities than before to make room for “family time”. I’m not sure why this is, as kids could always skip an activity to spend time with family, but with this change, despite staying for 4 nights (wed-Sunday), the kids were unable to experience the zip line at the kids club.
Food is fantastic but the portions sometimes feel incredibly small, yes one can ask for seconds, but it’s awkward to keep having to do so, and servings could be more generous. For eg rather than pre plating the food, they could serve our mains for a couple to share. Drinks are great but the wine list needs work.
For accommodation that’s priced as “luxury”, the linen this time felt not as comfortable (or maybe it was the weather), and we were charged for a toothbrush. I understand not providing toothbrushes in the interest of reducing waste, but then again, the standard is to provide it complementary on request. And weirdly we saw zero monitor lizards this time despite seeing dozens the last time!
None of these points are a “big deal” by themselves, and we still really like the place and intend to be back, but at the same time, we weren’t in as much of a hurry to rebook as we were the first time around.

Thanks for taking the time to post your kind review. It is always a great pleasure to welcome repeat guests back. I just want to clarify a few points.... 1. Our kids club always are happy to have input from guests as to activities that your kids might want to do. They try and mix up the activities as much as possible and now that we have a much larger 3 stage zipline up on the top of the hill the smaller one by the kids club is not as popular but we are still happy to operate it. 2. It is wonderful to hear you think the food is fantastic. We love it when guests want seconds and our staff always offer this. We are also happy to increase meal portions and do not charge any extra for this. We do this to avoid food waste. 3. Our linen is unchanged. We use organic cotton sheets and have been doing so for many years. They are of the highest quality. 4. Our wine list is not as extensive as we would like. Unfortunately our main supplier closed their business during the pandemic. Sourcing wines in Indonesia is complicated and very highly regulated and post pandemic more strictly enforced. It is a little easier to source spirits which is why we are able to provide an extensive range of cocktails. We are continuing to work on this. 5. We charge for our bamboo toothbrushes in order to reduce waste. If we handed them out for free then it would create much more waste. Trying to minimise waste, water and energy is something we are passionate about and we do not feel we should follow what other hotels are doing in order to achieve that. I hope that helps clarify a few things. Again many thanks for taking the time to post a review. We greatly appreciate the feedback.

We travelled to Nikoi with our extended UK family and were once again blown away. This is our (5th) trip to Nikoi and we were keen to share NYE with our family on the island – they put on a superb show which included fireworks, live music, classical Indonesia style dancing, canapes and of course a fully stocked bar. The local craft beers and IPAs (made on the island) now include Cider and are superb. The wine and food selection is even more varied and if you don’t like anything, then the staff are incredible at accommodating those dietary needs (big thank you to Leon and Olivia in the restaurants). As always, the teams are well organised and friendly. The icing on the cake was the kids club where Yogi, Pippin and team looked after a dozen or so kids with activities, smiles and laughter – a dream for any parent looking to park them for a few hours and ensure that they are safe and well cared for. We couldn’t recommend Nikoi highly enough!

We chose to celebrate our 10th year wedding anniversary at Nikoi island and cannot be more pleased with our decision. It was a pleasure to be surrounded by staff who are friendly, attentive, helpful and go the extra mile to ensure that the guests have a safe and wondeful time. The employees at Nikoi genuinely cares for the island and are passionate about its sustainability practices which included renewable energy and farm to table meals.
Every dish prepared by the kitchen, led by Chef Dika is amazing. local and fresh produce are used with great creativity and western favourites are served alongside indonesian classics. The ayam woku is as amazing as the chocolate tart.
We have spent 4 wonderful nights at Nikoi, spoilt and contented.
Nikoi is powered by a team of employees who love the island and their jobs and their positive energy makes this place a joyful and almost magical one. Thank you everyone at Nikoi for making our anniversary such a special one.

Recently stayed for four nights with our two kids, 6yo and 4yo. Staff are wonderful and everything is well maintained. Kids had a great time and it was especially nice to let them run around and play without us shadowing them all the time. There are a lot of families so for couples wishing for quiet time I'd definitely recommend Cempedak (which we have also been to and loved).

The only thing that took a big shine off our stay were the fishing boats that moor off the beach. With 'open living' you may feel visually exposed at night time. Their engines started at 6am each morning (due to daylight you may not sleep much longer anyway) but the real kicker was the one night with the engines put-putting from around 3.30 am. We will be back but this was almost a deal-breaker. I presume this a source of annoyance for more guests who don't report it and equally for the resort owners whose hands must be tied otherwise, surely, something would be done about it, to maintain the islands' sense of privacy, security and peacefulness.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and are very sorry to hear that you found the fishing boats annoying. These boats occasionally anchor off the island during certain seasons and sometimes leave the island for fishing grounds further afield early in the morning and this can be annoying. They are typically not fishing around the island but rather heading off to fishing grounds further away. Please accept our apologies for the annoyance that this caused. We do a lot of work with the local community and have very good relations with them and have been encouraging them to be mindful of our guests and ask that they avoid using their engines early in the morning. We are also trying to encourage them to install mufflers on their boats or to use alternative anchorages. We do hope to welcome you back again to either Nikoi or Cempedak soon.

Nikoi may only be a small island, but it has so many different feels throughout, walking around and through it. This is not your usual holiday destination, I guess you would liken it to staying in the Howell's hut on Gilligan's Island, beautifully designed timber structures with luxury amenities.

There is just so much to do here, laze around the sand floored bar, sipping top shelf spirits or beer brewed on the island, go snorkeling, kayaking, laser sailing, zip line, you won't know what to do first. We also had a very nice couples massage, and my Wife had a facial. The kids can be looked after with the guys at the kids club if you need a break within a break.

The food was top notch, they have a very talented Chef, who was able to cater for my food allergy without much compromise. 3 fantastic meals a day, almost unbelievable it is achievable in the middle of nowhere.

Will definitely go again, well recommended.

Nikoi Island is a stunning haven and my family and I (husband and 2 boys aged 13 and 10) could not have asked for a more magical and restorative 3 nights on the island. Friends recommended we come and we are so glad we spent this time here. I so hope to be back one day and I cannot recommend it more highly.

The staff are beautiful, friendly, accommodating, kind and professional; the accommodation is gorgeous and stylish and perfectly ‘right’ for what you would wish for on an island such as this (we stayed in number 8 with main bedroom upstairs and bunk room downstairs, 1 bathroom); the views over the water and sound of waves crashing at night glorious; the pool is my most favourite pool experience ever - floating under a rainforest canopy and looking out to sea, the food is delicious (set menu but all dietary requirements accommodated and very generous portions and offers of extra if you want it); and I could go on and on. We experienced an intense monsoonal storm one night and whilst we didn’t sleep, it was wildly exhilarating! We spent time on the tennis court, zip lining, in the pool, jetty jumping, rainforest walking, reading and playing cards on the multiple lounges and swinging chair at our ‘house’. If you have the chance to go to Nikoi, please do…..you won’t be disappointed ❤️

The 3 days spent at Nikoi Island was the highlight of our 2 week Asian trip. Nikoi is such a unique gem, and is felt the moment you step foot on the island. You're immediately welcomed by the friendliest and most attentive/helpful staff ever. Before anything else, I must mention that I was aware of the lack of AC. I read and reread reviews stating that AC is not necessary, but still had my reservations. I'm here to tell you, it truly is not needed! The design of the double roof, fan overhead and the additional floor fan, is more than adequate. We stayed in a 2 bedroom beach house with its own pool. The food- AMAZING, every single meal! You're given options and put in your dinner order during breakfast- so no surprises! We throughly enjoyed the laid back off the grid vibe. We participated in the turtle release, nightly bon fires and got a kick out of catching Grouper with a Bamboo pole. Consider yourself lucky if you get to experience this!

As the sound of sweeping waves create a beautiful but melancholy surrounding it’s easy to get carried away into a world,a world of one’s own thoughts, scattered but with a promise to have a desired ending. as I sit in the porch of our log house in a distant island of Riau archipelago I wish it was a bit sunny to drive away one’s mind from all odd thoughts but alas it’s been pouring since yesterday night and drizzling now creating that perfect moment of coveted melancholy.
Nikoi Island is a 15 hectare private island situated about 8 kilometers east of popular tourist destination Bintan in Indonesia.
There’s lot to do if you can catch up with high tide, snorkeling, kayaking and surfing to name a few.For those who are not adventurous enough can just take the round the island walk amidst mangroves.
As the sun sets behind the horizon one can just while away on the beach listening to distant sound of waves crashing by the beach as lights pop up in distant islands.
It’s serene and very infectious to watch the clouds as they change colour finally darkness devouring the entire surroundings as you can retire to the dining area lit up with soft light lanterns maintaining the mesmerizing feeling or indulge in roasting marshmallows stuck up at the tip of a long stick in the bonfire that as the staff says lit up every evening ‘if the weather is generous’
As the rain stopped this morning and the rainbow lit up the horizon promising a beautiful sunny day ahead we were off our cozy couch on the beach to try snorkeling.
The experience that awaits one once you have fought with the initial phase of fear as you go deep inside the ocean is just amazing. It’s so beautiful down under,a different world of sea urchins, clams and fishes of all sizes and colors.Maybe it’s just the beginning as we want to explore more with deep sea diving but must say a very good start.

Hi, Thanks for your interest in Nikoi. Whilst Nikoi was designed with families in mind we still get a lot of couples that visit. As we only have 15 villas (soon to add 3 more) we typically only have 12 children on average on the island. Midweek and outside of school holidays there are less kids. Note also we have a second resort called Cempedak Island which has a no kids policy (16yo and older). Cempedak is on another island about 30 mins away by speedboat. More details on both resorts are on our website. At present the border between Singapore and Indonesia is closed due to Covid. As a result we are temporarily closed. We do not know yet when these border restrictions might be lifted.

No you should not need any cash unless you wanted to buy something en route in which case you will need Indonesia Rupiah. There are money changers at both the Singapore ferry terminal and the Bintan ferry terminal if you need one. There are no other restaurants or shops on Nikoi and we accept credit cards (Visa, M/C and AMEX). Hope this helps. Nikoi team
