Dear Andi, I just found your review here. I'm pretty sure you were not in Sifa cottage but in Sifa Diving Resort. Sifa cottage is closed.

*Spacious & well-ventilated traditional bungalow with a view, which have much natural light (only 2 bungalows = less noise = quiet) *The only diving centre in Malenge Island. Many corals fishes to explore. *hospitable family members make you feel at home. (Tokitoki~ *Kim guided us to walk to Malenge village. We saw amazingly huge mangroves and land crabs.

We stayed here for some 4 nights and had a very nice time. The people are good fun and very friendly. We made some nice fires and had good times with some music. the place itself is rather basic compared to some other stays in the Togeans, BUT this is to be expected traveling remotely. The food was, well, not too bad but not too much either, so eat when there is food on the table. All in all i did enjoy it a lot and would definitely recommend it.

Sifa's was a great place to spend a week. good clean cottages, and helpful staff. Food was good and plentiful. snorkeling near the island was good and the day trips out to the reef only cost A$6, or 70,000 rupiah. The hammocks had good hammocks and mosquito nets. fellow guests were lots of fun as well. Ales responded to my emails for bookings on vostrak@gmail.com. Sifa responds to SMS's on +6282195966721 but be aware that the island as well as most resorts does not have phone contact. Sifa goes to a neighboring town to pick up SMS bookings. If you bring a smartphone, also make sure you also bring your oldest most basic mobile as the phone systems in the Togeans doesn't handle smartphones. but if you bring your oldest mobile phone, people can contact you in some places by SMS and you should be able to ring back, (f you go to a neighboring village). I booked for 4 days but ended up staying a week. Also you can get to and from the mainland via a ferry which goes to Dolong, or the ferries which go to Malenge

after a long trip in Sulawesi we have chosen the togian and this place to have a rest. our expectations were different from what we have found, but over all it was good enough for a few days. may we were unlucky because the cook has holiday so we had to eat what ever sifa's sister was cooking. if you like bread for breakfast and jam, you have to bring it or buy it in the next gipsy village, takes 30min boat ride. also other simple thinks on the table were missing, you have to expect fish, rice and chili every day. the snorkeling was good and you find a lot of fish in front of the cottage. we had a trip to reef no.5, and found a few more corals alive. at the end: we would not have made the long journey if we were knowing about the mass of trash in the water, extensive monoculture coconut palms, no primary rainforest, the gipsy aren't that since >20y, death Coral's and all is about money for just a very few immigrated people. if you are not afraid about a dark and low ventilated bungalow you could have nice days at Sifa, like somewhere else on world. the problem with the rats seems to be solved.

All you need to know here is one thing: it has a massive rat problem. I could say other things, both negative and positive, but why? We stayed in a standard bungalow, and spent many a sleepless night listening to them scurry on our ceiling, on the floor, and along the ledges of the walls around us inside our cabana. Every morning when we woke up, there was rat poop everywhere, including some on a little ledge about a foot from where my head laid during the night. The worst part is, management knows about this but is doing nothing. When we mentioned something, we were told it was our proximity to the kitchen that attracted the rats. I'm not sure how that is supposed to make us feel better since we were eating all our meals there! Another guest mentioned that management was worried that the rats were building nests in the roofs of the bungalows but didn't know what to do about it. Um...send someone up there to clear the nests??? If no one does, expect the rat problem to explode in the near future. Apparently, the luxury bungalows have them only on the roof and not in the room, and the standard rooms don't seem to have as much of a problem. I don't know: rats are just a deal-breaker for me.

Sifa cottage is very remote and we got to enjoy the hotel and beach with just a few other guests. The cottages are basic, but clean and have what you need. The house reef is the best I have seen in the Togeans (I stayed at 4 places). The coconut-fronted beach is gorgeous and sunset views amazing. The food was very good and the staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again. Cons: snorkeling trips and boat charters are expensive, and dive prices have been raised (compressor broken while there)

Me and my friend stayed at Sifa's 6 days in August and I am amazed by the place! So hidden, wild and beautiful and not overcrowded. We shared it with 6 other great people whom we made friends with. Real paradise! The staff was very warm, helpful and overall amazing! Ikbal, the dive master played the guitar for us, made us laugh with magic tricks and hung all the time around answering all the questions we had, when Pan was making funny jokes, getting coconuts and basically being there for anything we needed. The ladies were also very warm and always smiling and they cooked great fish meals every day. We had so much fun with all of them! Snorkeling was incredible at reef nr. 5 as well as at the reef right in front of our beach! At night the breathtaking sky and glowing plankton at the beach made the place a fairy tale! I am in love with that beach definitely going back for longer! That place remained in my heart!
