The view: Crystal clear water and bright blue sky, I really couldn't ask for more. Great place to disconnect from the hustle bustle of life as you swing in the hammock feeling the light breeze on your face and the warmth of the sun on your skin. The room: The room were decent with western bathroom, although it has no shower screen. There were no AC in the island, as electricity only runs from 6pm to 11pm. We were provided with electric fan, but once the power was out, so was the fan. You can feel a bit of breeze through the window or if you open your door. Mosquito net is provided, we didn't use it, but did not suffer any mozzies attack. The transport: We hired a speed boat (with 10-12 people capacity) from Marina Cottages, Ampana, who also owns Sandy Bay Resort, which costs around AUD 600 and only took us 2 hours to get there. As we didn't have much time, this was our best option and we did not regret the decision. We were a group of 8, so hiring a speed boat was worth it. We also got to visit Pulau Papan in the afternoon, just before sunset. The boat docked overnight during our one night stay in the island, however I am not sure whether the boat returns to Ampana if you stay longer. The food: The crew suggested we stopped by Pulau Salaka if we wanted to buy seafood for our meal during the trip. Yes, Sandy Bay Resort will provide meals three times a day, but you would be served any fish they could get on that day. So we decided to get 3 kgs of coral trout and 1 lobster, best AUD 35 we've ever spent. Veggies and fruits were scarce commodities, as they need to have them delivered from Ampana, so you may be served the same tiny portion of fruit and veggies for a few meals. The service: Staffs were friendly and attentive. They have snorkels and diving gears for rent, and an in-house diving instructor. Electricity only runs for a few hours in the evening, ask beforehand so you can charge your gadgets at the right time. There is no phone reception, let alone internet, as the island is remote. The resort does have radio transmitter for their communication. The verdict: The trip to the island was somehow impromptu. However, I must say, 2 flights (from Jakarta), 3 hours on the road and 2 hours by boat later, this one night is totally worth all the hassle! As for next time, I would definitely stay here longer. How to book: Book through Marina Cottages Ampana, the resort is usually busy during European summer break. PS. A famous international soccer legend had once stayed in Sandy Beach Resort.

Sandy Bay Resort is a really nice place and we enjoyed our stay. The two private beaches are amongst the most beautiful ones on Malenge Island. The reef is far enough from the shore so you can chill in the water. Also don't miss the sunset point. Anyway, a few things disappointed us. The most annoying problem occurred when we arrived by public ferry: nobody came to pick us up. Let's take a step back: at Sandy Bay Resort there are neither phone coverage nor wi-fi, but we managed to book a bungalow through Simon, who is a kind of referent on the mainland. It was not easy to contact him as well: he didn't reply to our text so we had to call him and then to go and meet him at the hotel where he normally stays in Ampana. He told us to get off at Pulau Papan because the staff would pick us up there for free, but nobody came. There was also a guy who, a few days before, had catched the ferry to go from Kadidiri (where he was staying at the time) to Sandy Bay Resort in order to make his reservation in person: that means that the staff didn't even pop up to pick him up at least. We have just been very lucky because, about half an hour later, a Sandy Bay Resort's boat came, bringing a couple of guests to visit Pulau Papan, so we managed to go to the resort with me, but they confirmed us that nobody knew anything about our arrival and, when we finally got there, they told us that they hadn't received our reservation. So why should costumers rely on Simon and why is his contact number on their website? Then we were given the bungalow number 5: it's really spacious and we liked it, but for sure it needs to go through a bit of renovation and the staff should care more about the cleaning. The food was good, but not always abundant and various. For example, for breakfast we were given pancakes and watermelon all the time (except for one day when we got a sort of cake and once they added also fried banana). The fruit that we were given in the morning never changed. We understand that this island is remote and all the grocery has to come by boat, but they sell soft drinks and cigarettes that for sure are not basic necessities so at least they should try to vary fruit and vegetables more often. Speaking of food, we have to say that, after specifying that we both are big eaters, at least they traid to give us something more.

We had a chance to spent one night in this resort. And regret that we only stayed for one night! Went in a group of 8 adults, and enjoyed every seconds we spent in this resort. Views are perfect, rooms are decent, waters are clear and if you are lucky enough, you can meet the manatees. The shallow water in front of this resort have a specific types of seaweed from them to eat. Just like most of the resort in Togian Islands, mostly are not equipped with Air Condition, since electricity is not available 24/7. But, why should you bother, you had the pure and perfect vitamin sea. I am looking forward to go back to this resort. PS : This resort is accessible from Marina Cottage, Ampana (they are same company group). Will take approx. 2 hours to get to this resort. And you can have a stop at Salaka Island to buy some fresh seafood to be cooked for your meal. Although Sandy Bay provides you a decent meals as well. Just in case you would like to have specific kind of seafood.

We spend two nights at Sandy Bay resort. When we arrived the first thing we saw was the absolutely beautiful beach. We started to regret that we have only booked 2 nights. But this changed quite fast. As we got out of the boat we were warmly and friendly welcomed... But only by the dogs... The staff there didn't make any efforts to recognize us or even say "hello". This was the reaction we got the next 2 days. We felt like disturbing them just being guests on their island. We think hospitality is one of the most important things to let the guests feel comfortable. And even though the beach, the nature, the whole environment and, of course, the dogs were absolutely amazing, we didn't feel good there. Food was ok, the rooms were not good. Got a lot of insects in our room, included a big spider and a very long ants road through the bathroom =) So unfortunately we were happy to leave after 2 days. This place has a lot of potential left. It could be such a wunderful place. It's a pitty.

Compared to other resorts in togean island, this one is expensive, but also has a very nice beach. The food was really bad, one day we just got a fishhead, which you normally give to the cats. All in all it was very dirty, we had a lot of cockroaches in our room. Also rats were in and near the bungalows but the staff did not care that much about it. The atmosphere was cold, like in a travel agency. Except the diving master english was not always understood.

We stayed at Sandy bay resort for one nigth only. The cottages are great and very comfortable and the beach is amongst the most beautiful ones at the Togeans. Food and atmosphere could be a little bit improved.

We (22 & 23 years old) stayed here for 5 nights. The bungalows are very clean and every bungalow has got two hammocks in front what is perfect. Also the beach and the reef directly in front of the hotel is awesome. The people who manage the stay there are all very nice ;) greetings to Aspan he is the one who speaks the best english there. If your getting bored after to much relaxing just ask him what to do you can play volleyball at the evening or build some nice decorations out of palm leaf and much more. The food was good (fresh fish from the sea and vegetables) but most of the time not really warm. We booked the hotel from Edy in Ampana he stays in Maria Cottage. I think it's the best idea to book over him course he's one of the only people connected to the islands. If your not in Ampana you can also just write him an email. Greetings, Sofi & Konni

The beach and location are great. The cabins are fine. But the food - to which you have no other choice, as there is nowhere else to eat, is really really bad, hence the single star. We stayed for 4 days and were served exactly the same terrible meal for lunch and dinner. Every. Single. Day. This wouldn't have been so depressing if it was nice, fresh, well cooked food. It was literally the worst food we have ever eaten. Fish, rice and a vegetable. Always stone cold. The whole, very small fish - one per person - always cooked to a point where it was so dry and tough and old you couldn't actally get it off the bones. Any edible cold, dry flesh you could restrieve would add up to about three or four mouthfuls per fish. By the end of our stay we stopped even trying to eat it. On our last evening the owner arrived with a group of investors who were given royal treatment in front of the rest of us - really good Indonesian food - fresh fish and salads as opposed to our tough old, cold fish. And fresh hot nasi goreng and eggs for breakfast as opposed to a single slice of white bread and piece of watermelon. When I asked why we were being treated differently I was told by one of the staff, it’s because they are from the bank, and Indonesian, so they get better food.

We stayed 10 days in paradise! The journey to get to the island was really long coming from Jakarta via Gorontalo (ferry) specially with young kids (2,5 & 7) but it was definitely worth it ! The beach is amazing, the bungalow was nice and clean and most of all the staff was awesome with the kids. Our son cried when we left, he talks almost every day about Aspan, Popoye, Karo,Edy and his others "friends". We will definitely come back! You can easily arranged a few trips from the resort (Bajau village, jellyfish lake, reefs- 1,4,5- jungle trekking...) Keep in mind that this is a remote island so no internet, no phone and few electricity.

The beach here is lovely with crystal waters. However the resort is very poorly run. We booked back in March and arrived after a three hour boat ride to be told that we had no booking. An hour later and a room was eventually located but not the room type we had booked. The next day a German family arrived and the same happened to them. On our final day a Spanish couple experienced the same welcome. It is unbelievably stressful and the people in charge have no idea of how to treat their customers. I think the main problem comes from Edy Lami, who is based in Ampana and runs a few resorts on the Togeans. We stayed at two of his and both had received incorrect information from him about our bookings. The rest of the staff, it must be said, are brilliant. Our bungalow was fine and the bathroom could be improved. The food varied from ok to good. The breakfast pancakes are terrible- so anaeamic and undercooked. The price we paid was more than other places we stayed on the Togeans.
