Sifa’s is wonderful. Sifa and Alex are great hosts who care about their guests and have created something special in this beautiful unspoilt island of Malenge. The 4 bungalows are each simple, but very well built and appointed and each has a tantalising view of the stunning little bay that it is perched just above. The sounds of the sea and jungle wildlife are constant. Right out front lies some of the best fringing coral reef in the Togeans. Food is plentiful and very local; all caught or grown locally. BBQd fish every day if you desire. You can get a Bintang but if you want anything else, including snacks, you’ll need to take it yourself. Alex or one of the crew will take you diving or snorkelling to wonderful nearby reefs. It’s a laid back dive scene but safety comes first. Reef 5 is a standout with plentiful coral walls and canyons teeming with life; highlights were Eagle and Manta Rays and white tipped sharks. Be aware that there is no internet or mobile access on the whole island except some limited internet at Malenge village which is a couple of hours walk away or 20 mins by boat. That makes communication difficult between potential guests and Sifa, but that will surely be remedied when the appropriate technology is available and in place. Until then, like most places in the Togeans, expect a day or two lag in all communication. It is of course, a wonderful place for a digital detox. NB: Just a 2 minute walk behind Sifa is Dr. Ating Doolittle’s nature loving learning centre. It’s a haphazard kind of a place with noble intentions to educate locals and travellers alike about the fascinating wildlife of Malenge, particularly the Tarsiers and Macaques. The centre could do with some help and Ating hopes to attract funding for a conservation research project. There’s even a picture of Ating with Dr Jane Goodall! I hope you enjoy the simple but stunning retreat that you will experience at Sifa. Chris

Fantastic place! Sifa is the most welcoming women and the best cook around. We enjoyed every single meal she made us over the four days (no 2 same meals). The rooms and bathrooms are a nice space with huge balconies to sit out and admire the views. We saw dolphins passing the bay on our first morning. Diving was fantastic around Malenge. With only 3 rooms it’s a small family style place. We were lucky to be the only two guests there. THANK YOU SIFA

I initially chose to stay at this resort after watching a video from a French vlogger promoting the neighbouring hotel (Sera Beach), but it was the shared beach that this resort is also situated in that caught my eye. I was not disappointed in the least when I arrived: a white sandy beach with a vast expanse of unbelievably clear turquoise water, flanked by cliffs and fringed by coral. Granted, this place is not as mind blowing as Bora Bora or the Maldives but it is still breathtaking nonetheless (I still can't get over how clear the water is). Sera Beach was fully booked so I opted for Sifa Diving Resort instead, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The owner, Sifa, is a local woman who runs this resort with her Czech husband. She and the rest of the staff have been incredibly accommodating and friendly. The resort provides full board accommodating with 3 meals a day included in the price. The hotel room was basic but beautifully designed and with a beach view. The food was surprisingly good considering the lack of variety of produce on the Togians due to the islands' remoteness (other guests have remarked that the food here is better than the other accommodations that they've stayed in the Togians). Malenge island, where the hotel is situated, is quite far from the main town Wakai which means transport cost is expensive. On the plus side, the hotel is only 10-15 mins by boat to Pulau Papan (a Bajau Laut village, a highlight!) and not far from the many dive/snorkelling sites dotting the islands. As with many other resorts on the Togian Islands, electricity is limited to only a few hours a day, there is no phone or internet connection and provisions are basic (the Togians are not meant for luxury travelers and may it stay that way), but that did not affect the enjoyment of my stay in the least. I only stayed for 5 days and I would have happily stayed for 2 weeks (or forever) if I had the time. I just did not feel like leaving when the time came! Well deserved 5 stars. I owe this place glowing review
