This was our best homestay in whole kyrgyztan. And by far the best food we got! Really nice host Nazira and really lovely and comfortable place. Jyrgalan is a very beautiful valley in the mountains. Good for trekking and other outdoor activities! We really recommend this place and would love to come back some time.
What a memorable home stay! Cosy and friendly host Madam Nazira and her family treated every traveler as part of her family, not just a guest. The rooms are basic but functional and quiet. The homely meals served by Nazira family made me feel like home away from home. Jyrgalan is a small village and serves as a base for trekking and hiking. Nazira was very kind to give me a souvenir as a memory of her hospitality and Kyrgyzstan. Thank you so much and I shall return. Highly recommended for other travelers.
Our visit to Jyrgalan and our stay at Salamat Guest House were the best! We came to Jyrgalan in February for a week of backcountry (or "freeride" as our Eurpoean friends would say) skiing and the area did not disappoint. Even on a low snow year, the powder was deep and the terrain breathtaking. But the hospitality showed by Nazira, Azamat and their family really made the trip. Delicious home-cooked meals every morning and evening - Nazira is a wizard of Kyrgyz cuisine. And their youngest daughter is basically the cutest thing that you've ever seen. We stayed for five nights and wished we could stay forever. Stay here when you come to Jyrgalan!
If some of the best parts of travel are the people you meet, then Salamat Guesthouse delivers. The host, Nazira, went out of her way to accommodate me and deliver the wonderful Kyrgyz hospitality. She perfectly understood my request for vegetarian food, and her dinner was among the tastiest of my weeks in Kyrgyzstan. The guesthouse is spotlessly clean and works great for anyone looking for budget accommodation while they plan their trip into the surrounding mountains. The gueshtouse offers either private twin room, or a larger room that works as a dorm or a triple if you're in a group. Jyrgalan is a bit off the grid, so make sure you buy a SIM card in Karakol before leaving. There's no wifi at the guesthouse, but you can get a Megacom SIM to stay connected before your trek, and there were plenty of power points in the room to charge things before you head into the mountains. In short, Nazira is lovely and I enjoyed learning more about her life and her goals. The place was clean, warm, and the food is beyond plentiful and tasty. :)…
