Immerse in the splendour of a secluded hideaway fringed by a kilometre of stunning coastline flanked by coconut palms and the Indian Ocean on the southwest corner of Zanzibar. Within a lush, forested estate, 66 luxurious villas; each with its own swimming pool and terrace blend modern comforts with Swahili, Omani, British and Indian influences and provide guests with an unquestionable feeling of luxury and privacy. At the heart of the hotel is the stunning glass-walled infinity pool and The Spa, set in five acres of private gardens and offering rejuvenating treatments inspired by local flora and spices. The hotel has two restaurants serving international dishes of Middle-Eastern, Turkish, Greek, and Mediterranean cuisine, a kids club, and a range of complimentary sports including kayaks, pedal boats, hobie cats, and snorkeling excursions. Dolphin safaris and a visit to see the indigenous Red Colobus monkeys in the nearby Jozani Forest are unforgettable Zanzibari experiences not to be missed.

We go to Zanzibar for the splendid beach, well the beaches are unusable. Even during high tide, its muddy, full of algues, see urchins and dirty. Very upseting honeymoon. The hotel itself ok but not worth a 5 star Floors in the rooms arent cleaned as our feet get black. Food is not bad but there is only one restaurant and one buffet place Nothing else to do around apart from pool. If you want a nice beach its 30mins away to Paje. Excursion by the hotel are way too expensive. Manager of hotel is useless, couldnt care less, asks about our stay and doesnt listen to our reply and just checks his phone. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for a beach holiday.

Hotel's Favourite
We appreciated the welcome, service, availability kindness and attentiveness of all the staff. In hands of a dynamic young management team, the Residence is a wonderful place and is promised a bright future. The Residence is for us an exceptional hotel in the middle of an authentic and preserved site. It is a real privilege to have stayed these few days in that hotel and to meet such a welcoming and attentive team. They did everything to make our stay exceptional, unexpected and fabulous. We have left them happy but also so sad not to be able to extend this exceptional stay. We are happy to recommend The Residece.

Our stay during our time at The residence, Zanzibar was amazing. The staff are just great and extremely friendly and hospitable. A special mention to our golf cart driver; Franklin who was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and careful. The food, villa and all other amenities were exceptional.

Literally every experience is amazing! We had a wonderful weekend away, the staff went out of their way to make our Anniversary memorable (Franklin & Boniventure ) and complementary cake & champagne! The ambience is relaxing, grounds vast and beach gorgeous. The meals were always amazing, we only needed more time to take more and more in. Thank you Team Residence.

This hotel could be perfect but for us it just didn't hit the mark. We had high expectations for this hotel due to reviews and the beautiful photos plus when you book a hotel at this cost we expect near perfection. The goods The spa, the massages we had were some of the best we've ever had and we are regular spa goers. The surroundings were lovely and the rooms very serene. The ladies we had were professional and friendly and very good at their job. Lunch was by far the best meal of the day with a large menu to choose from, all that we tried was lovely, and a bonus of a basket of naan bread to start. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Decent mini bar in room (but snacks not included something we would expect) The bads The pool pump is situated under your terrace so when sitting in the morning to have a coffee or evening drinks, or any time to be fair there is a constant and fairly loud humming sound that really breaks the peacefulness. I think when the pumps need replacing the hotel should consider relocation if possible, maybe to down the side of the villas. Breakfast whilst there was a good choice a few things felt slightly short, the scrambled eggs were like water and not edible, the bacon was pretty tasteless and personally I would have liked some french toast although I appreciate they did have waffles, pancakes and crepes. The nonsense of having to sign every time you have anything to eat or drink really started to grate on us by the end of the holiday, we are not used to this, we can normally just get up and go when we want. They need to work on this, I think it has something to do with some people being half board. I would expect waiter service for drinks on the beach at this level of hotel, something not provided. Daily ice cream on the beach ran out most days and no more was offered, if you were at your villa, beach front, you were also left out of this service in favour of people on the beach. The bed was solid and very uncomfortable, on the second day I had some pain in my fingers and on returning and speaking to the doctor I have mild carpal tunnel syndrome, they suspect because of sleeping uncomfortably. The housekeeping hours were odd, they were very attentive and did a good job but turned up at random times. We were in bed one night, just after 10pm and they came and restocked the mini bar! Overall this is a nice hotel with a lovely pool and fairly nice staff on the whole but not what I would consider luxury, which is what we were expecting.

Amazing hotel, very clean tha staff is so smiling, welcoming and always listening. The food is very good, we loved the rice milk, ananas and mango jus. The romantic dinner on the beach is one of must to do. The only bad think is that we can’t swim in the sea so the swiming pool is better.

Most disappointing luxury hotel experiences. Interesting to note that apologies were never offered, not even at check-out or even despite complaints made to reservation team. I was instead asked to "write an email". First impression - underwhelming.

We stayed here for 3 days after a safari in Tanzania. The facility is very nice. The rooms are great! However, there are better places to stay. The resort is a long, bumpy drive from the airport (at least 90 minutes), in a remote part of the island. So, you're not likely leaving for any excursions. The staff are not friendly. They smile, but are not looking to help. It was exhausting trying to order anything, such as coffee or a beer. They seem to have an operating model designed to make each encounter long and slow. Check in was dreadful, filling out multiple forms with the same info, taking an excruciating time. The beach is nice but you really can't get in the water due to the sea urchins. Stay someplace more central, with better staff.
