Really beautiful small place. Reception staff were very kind and helpful. The places are much bigger than they look, we were very surprised how beautiful it was when we got there. We had our wedding and honeymoon on Playa Penca and stayed here the night before and wedding night. Only thing I would say is there is not too much close by, you would really need a car if staying longer. We did walk to have a breakfast which was really good! We got really lucky and had the closest house to the sea, could have stayed there forever!

Villas Estival is located 20 yards from a beautiful wide Pacific beach. Each unit is a separate condo unit that accommodates 4-10 people with full kitchens, indoor and outdoor sitting areas, and access to a large pool and a smaller kid pool. The grounds are maintained well and the atmosphere is relaxed. The surf varies and is often good for body surfing, not really regular surfing.

This hotel is not for tourists. The first three nights we stayed where good the grounds are nothing special but it has beach access. The villas where clean and well stocked. The last two nights there where not pleasant and where unsafe. There are twelve villas on the last two nights a few of them were rented by local families. There were an extra 80 to 100 people staying on the tiny grounds. They brought mattresses and had them lying everywhere. They tied clothes lines between the trees. There were drunk people coming up to us on our patio. It was loud and difficult to sleep until at least 2 am. On the last two nights it was impossible to use the pool due to this. The hotel had nothing to say and did not care. This hotel should be reserved for locals and not for tourism.

Another wonderful stay at this hotel. The family were really looking forward to it and, again, it met everybody’s expectations. Thanks Estival! The villas, gardens, pool and beach area are very well kept.

Nice place in the area of Guanacaste. The villas are comfortable, clean and beautiful, to few steps from the beach of black sand, as almost all in the Pacific, but quiet and peaceful, the waves sometimes a little rough. Good swimming pool. Excellent point as a base to know different places and have adventure around. I love it!

Steps from a beautiful, yet very quiet beach. Great swimming pool. The Villas are clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly. Wifi is unreliable, and the air conditioners, although they kept the bedrooms cold, were not up to the task of keeping the whole Villa cool. Still, a great place to get away from it all.

This resort required a deposit in advance to secure reservations, $600 for a week reservation. The charge was made to our credit card in May before we arrived on July rather than to keep as a security deposit. Although this is not an atypical practice it is one that most credible and reputable institutions choose NOT to use. This should have been a red flag to me. Lesson learned. Their website posted that the 2 bedroom Villa we had reserved, Villa #6, had air conditioning (A/C) and cable TV for $240 per night. Listing still shoes this, check for yourselves (unless Management has recently revised). On arrival Sunday July 1st at 1:30 pm we discovered that the A/C consisted of 2 wall units in the bedrooms but not anywhere else in the house such as the kitchen where we planned to prepare our meals or in the dining room. Please note that July in Costa Rica by the beach is very hot and very humid thus working A/C is vital especially when you expect to enjoy a vacation. The cable TV in the 2 sets had a horrendous “snow” picture that according to the grounds keeper has been a chronic problem with this villa for months if not years. That "snow" on the TV rendered it useless. I asked the grounds keeper to check the cables and he said that would not work. We were not informed of this deficit prior to handing our credit card for deposit. The website nor the emails alerted us to the location of the A/C units exclusively in the bedrooms either. This is a sad situation and, I believe an isolated event to this property. This is NOT at all typical nor representative of other sites in Guanacaste or anywhere in Costa Rica as I have been to Guanacaste and many other places in Costa Rica before. I am writing here to spare other tourists from going through what we experienced and of the frustration we have experienced in dealing with Management since July 1st for an amicable settlement to our deposit. I hope Trip Advisor will publish this review, as their site has been and continues to be a valuable tool and, wealth of information for travelers like me. The good needs to be shared and published but the "bad apples" needs to be warned of and published as well. Thank you

The villas are very well equipped and maintained. The location of these villas is wonderful as you can enjoy both Prieta and Penca beaches separated by just a 5 minute walk between each other. The staff is very friendly and is always taking care of all the guests. Highly recommend to enjoy great and relaxing time with the family.

We stayed at Villas Estival for two weeks at the end of February and the beginning of March and had a wonderful family vacation. We were a party of 7 adults--parents, older kids and friends--and our villa easily accommodated us all. The cleaning crew was ready to come everyday but we asked then to come every second day. The gardeners take care of the landscaped grounds in the morning and security is always nearby but not intrusive in any way. The pool is central to all the Villas and we could see the ocean and beach--Playa Prieta--was 50 yards away from our unit so you had the best of both worlds. The beach is hardly used except on weekends when the locals come down to enjoy it. The surf is relatively calm but when it is good it was excellent for bodysurfing. When we were there it was relatively full on the weekends but from Sunday to Thursday it was not busy at all. CRs living in San Jose would come for the weekend. This would be an ideal location for a family reunion. Each family could have their own privacy but still be close to each other. We will be back again in the future!
