One of three hotels in Cingjing operated by the same owner of The Old England Manor (Tudor) and Shangrila Hanging Gardens (Post-modern American), Music Villa occupies the middle ground in terms of price point as a Victorian-style musical respite. Owner has clearly taken pains to infuse his customers with his intended experience - from the entry via the front gardens adorned with busts of famed composers, to the halls decked with candles/paintings and soft Celtic music played in the background. I’m both impressed and amused by the owner’s CD collection of various music genres laid out in the halls. However I do recommend moving on with the times with digital music. I mean, are CDs still available and isn’t brick-and-mortar music stores a thing of the past? Rooms were huge. Mine came with a double and twin beds big enough for a family of four, which I didn’t need. Couples having King Henry/Ann Boleyn fantasies are better off at the Old England Manor’s romance room instead. Hardwood furnishings and other “old school” decorations tells a lot about the investment put in for this establishment. However, the bathroom need serious restoration work (showers & tub). Guests want a renaissance experience but not actually living through the hardships of feudal times, agree? Service was impeccable. From Shirley at the front desk, Xiaoqian who showed us the rooms and how to operate them, the bartender dudes prepping the complimentary evening cocktails and Scotch, to the drivers who took us to the main transport hub for the various trips to Cingjing farm and Hehuan mountains. Which brings me to the next point of accessibility. It was quite a hike (with luggage no less) to get to the villa from the main Cingjing Guest House bus station, assuming you hadn’t hired a car/taxi to take you all the way from Taichung or Puli. Tip: Walk 5-10 minutes in and you’ll see the Hanging Gardens. Receptionist there can call their driver to send you in, saving your legs, especially during inclement weather (it’s the highlands, weather can be unpredictable and swift). Clear directions to this beautiful rustic villa in the middle of the misty highlands would’ve perfected an otherwise ethereal experience.

My friend and I enjoyed an amazing stay here. We loved our room (123) and found the Reception and restaurant staff to be very hospitable and pleasant. The explanation of the Hotel's facilities was very sound in both its delivery and content while the accoutrements and amenities appertaining to the split level room were very luxurious. It was great to be able to borrow CDs and to play tranquil music on a beautiful recent Sunday morning all the while gazing at the narrow yet picturesque village streets outside. Ren'ai is a special place as a village while the Shangrila Music Villa itself there is totally special in its own right.

We decided on this hotel on a lark and were pleasantly surprised. They ran out of the standard Double Room which we had booked (which at 500 sq feet would have been plenty of room) so they put us in a two bedroom suite with living room and powder room (they locked one bedroom as we did not need it). The rooms were huge. The bedroom was intended for 4 and came with its own sitting area complete with coffee table and view of the mountains. Same view from the living room which also came wuth enormous flat screen TV, and mini bar with free stuff. Only downside was bath room which looked rather ancient. It's called the Music Villa as you can borrow up to 3 CDs at any time to play on the in-room sound system which came with 2 standing Klipsch speakers. Delightful. They do a decent breakfast too although it ends a little too early at 10 am. The staff speak good English too which gave us temporary relief from our efforts to converse in Mandarin. Would visit again if the ride up the mountain complete with narrow winding roads were not so arduous.

My family booked a family suite, where there is a double bed in the first floor and two single bed on the second floor. I love how they stay true to the whole Victorian-themed accommodation down to the finest details! From the classical CDs we can borrow in the lobby to play in our own rooms, to the splitting of tap water to hot and cold ( lol seriously!). We were also given a very thorough introduction to all the facilities available when we arrived at our rooms. We love the free goodies, our very own coffee machine in our rooms, plus the wine tasting session at night! How cool is that!! I don't get how some people complain it's too cold? The bedding is just right to keep us warm. And staying at the top has its perks as the scenery around the area is amazing!! I just love every single thing about my stay here and I wished I could stay longer.

We rented a car from Avis and drove ourselves around Taiwan. Frankly, driving in most parts of Taiwan was not very challenging and I did not feel unduly stressed out. However, when we arrived in Cingjing, the fog set in and I could barely see one arm’s length ahead of me. Couple that with the extremely narrow one-way lane that led to the villa, it was a recipe for terror. 😔 The villa itself was not bad and we rented a quad room that offered ample space for the 4 of us. However, do note that the room tends to become very cold as night falls.

Our family stayed one night here. Unfortunately, our experience was not good. First, our room was freezing! We were wearing our coats to bed and no matter how high we put the thermostat, it made very little difference. I also found the rooms overcrowded with old furniture that was a bit dusty. Second, water leaked onto the floor from our showers and it could not drain anywhere. As a result, the floor was very slippery and hazardous. Breakfast was fine. If you are staying in the area, I would recommend looking at other options.

Staying here for two nights in a freezer. Reverse AC heater and electric fireplace are too weak to create any warming effect. Seriously, the owner should look at investing and installing electric blankets in every room during winter. My kids are sleeping in their socks and down jackets!! The toilet drainage system doesn't seem to be working very well. After shower, the water on the floor just stay on the floor. They don't drain down anywhere.

We stayed at this villa for 1 day/night back in early May and I loved it. Everything about this hotel is old fashion beginning with our entry to the room. This is the first time I ever remember entering any hotel room using a metal key; not a electronic card key. Upon stepping into our room, I hear piano music playing which was quite unexpected. The room has two floors with 1 and half bathrooms and a patio furnished with table and comfy chairs. The room is decorated in early 1900 English style living with all the amenities you would find in any hotel. All the drinks in the fridge and coffee/tea/snacks are complimentary. I mostly like the manual coffee machine where you have to manually grind the beans and use a coffee pressure apparatus to make the coffee- it's a lot of work, but it's fun work. Pros/cons: 1)The sound in the room does resonate; good for listening to music. Very bad if your in-law snores like a mad cow. 2) The hotel and the surrounding is located up on a hill off the main road so it's very tranquil with amazing view of mountains and valleys. 3) Hotel staffs are very friendly including two dogs with one name Bagel. I took lots of selfie with Bagel. 4)There are dust here and there in the room which makes me feel more like at home. 5)The hotel offers an extensive collections of cd which you can borrow and listen in your room on your 1200 watt speakers. 6) There is a scenic path you can take to enjoy the surrounding neighborhood and mountains. I don't know if it belongs to the hotel or it's just part of the neighborhood. I highly recommend this hotel to stay if you want to really relax and chat with old friends and enjoy the mountain view and fresh air.

We stayed nearby to this home stay, we walked around to check out the surroundings and we found Shangrila! This place is awesome, quiet, peaceful and beautiful with classic musician structures. Attendances are friendly and allowed us to take photos and look around. There's a homie cafe inside that you can have coffee without staying there too. Taiwanese love dogs, I saw a golden retriever inside the house giving accompany with the attendances. There are music playing constantly in the house too. Although it's a quite far walk to the town, but transportation is never a problem in Taiwan. I saw people rent car too to get there. Love this place, I have a lot more photos to share... Hopefully I can post all. Contact me for more information.
