#2 of 66 Speciality lodging in Wanhua
In the busy streets of Ximen shopping district, a historic looking building with white washed bricks stands in the middle of Hankout street. With no prominent signs to be seen, its elegancy in whiteness adorned with hints of greens seeks the attention of passersby to stop and wonder the story behind this building. A middle aged man, genuine smile, and always on standby to help each and every traveler staying at this hostel is the very owner of TW Hostel – Mike, and working together behind him is his wife. Commuting from Taiwan to Singapore was not a rare thing for Mike in his past job. As a result of the frequent travels, he was able to experience the youth hostels in Singapore and he began to love the friendly styled budget hostels he’d stayed at. Youth hostels around the world exist for people from different countries to meet and become roommates as they “bunk” together. Distinctive from business hotels, hostels offer a closer interpersonal relationship and warmth between person.

I was the only guest in the main building. I stayed in a solo room near a shared bath. I've been assisted very well by the hotel staffs with my urgent requests and queries. Place is small but very homey. Near a breakfast spot, massage parlor and convenience stores. Easily accessible to the MRT and Ximen Main Area. I will definitely stay here again when I come back to Taipei.

I lived in their single room for 2 nights and it was better than my expectation. You can get privacy at a price of a bunk room. The toilet rooms and shower rooms are small but in good condition and user friendly to tall people(the shelf in the bath rooms are quite high, but I’m 6’1 so it’s fine.). It’s kind of like the bathrooms you can see in hostels in London.

I stayed at 2 hotel/hostel before in XMD, this is by far the most satisfying one. The owner is super friendly and helpful. Knowing that we came from other country, she provided lots of flyers and info sheet on the train line, where to go, what to do, and a map consist of the travel plan by train and tour for food & sightseeing. She also gave us milk tea drinks as a gift. The room and facility is also good & sufficient. The room has everything you can expect. The facility outside the room includes kitchen sink, fridge, washing machine & etc. The room location is a few mins away from the reception, need to cross two streets to reach. But the location is really good. Opposite of family mart, walk straight to reach YongHe soy milk, and easily can reach XMD. Just that our room is really near to the streets, so can be quite noisy due to vehicles honking and people making noise. Ear plug is provided to make things better. The deco and overall feeling of the place is also commendable. Looks really cozy and modern, with a touch of fairy-tale-like. I also like the process where the room only need to key in password to enter and the electricity no need to depends on key card. And checking out is really simple, just switch off everything, open the door room and go off without going to the reception to check out. I really like this place and wanted to give 5 start but only can give at most 4.5 because of two things: 1) The water heater is a little hard to adjust and sometimes doesn't have hot water. To make sure it has hot water, i have to push the water pressure to the max. This happen for many times but so far it's not a big deal 2) There are few small cockroaches roaming around. We killed 2-3, but 1-2 escaped. Not giving us too much of trouble so far but still not very good for hygiene. Anyhow, I really recommend this place and it's good for value. Would like to stay here again next time I visit taiwan

First of all, the location of the hotel, especially the main one, is less than 10-minute walk from Ximen station, around 5-minute walk to the bus stops, and just across the Ximending night market, which is so lively and full of interesting streets with a lot of shops and different varieties of famous food. This makes the hotel an excellent place to stay when visiting Taipei since Ximen station is just a stop from the Taipei Main Station. The hotel has a small receiving area but showcases a variety of tokens, displays, and decorations such as a big teddy bear by the door, postcard stamps that one can use, flowers on the outside, pastel-colored walls, and other cute items on the tables and ledges. We were assigned to their other hotel which is just a couple of minutes walk further. Our room was kinda tiny with double-deck bed. A small table and 2 chairs could still fit in the room but there was no other space to put our things. That was the only problem. All the other rooms we saw were more spacious so I think it is best to check and request if the room is too small for you. This room was also beside the road so noise could be heard in the room although we were on a higher level. In addition, the room is located outside the Emergency Exit door, which I find it a little bit weird. The room is also beside the laundry area so guests would have to pass by our room all the time. The entire hotel is okay, one just have to choose a good room. The common toilets and shower area were a little small but we did not mind. Sinks were also available outside for washing. Free coffee was available (I think most of Taiwan offer this) and a small kitchen was for everyone's use. There is also a living room for those who want to work or just chill. The hostel is secure with a coded main door to pass through. The ambiance of the hotel is cozy because of the light, pastel colors around. WiFi was also stable and guests have the freedom to relax in all the common areas of the hotel.
