Conveniently located just next to Ximending MRT exit, Westgate hotel is well located for the leisure traveller. The room I had was small though but otherwise the hotel was clean and offered a good buffet breakfast consisting of Western and Taiwanese dishes.
First trip back to Westgate Hotel after 3 years covid hiatus. We booked four rooms and will be staying for 4 nights. But, it was so disappointing that we had an unpleasant experience on just day 1 of breakfast! Our 71 year old dad, who is staying in room 1008 went down for breakfast alone first. He registered when going into the restaurant, but after sitting down at the table with his food, another staff (presumably a senior staff as he was in jacket and tie but we did not saw his name) came over saying that his table does not have the 'occupied' sign, and asked for his room number to verify that he is a guest of the hotel. Firstly, his tone to an elderly hotel guest is certainly not appropriate, especially coming from a senior staff of the hotel and in the service industry! Secondly, our dad already registered and provided his room number at the entrance, that's why he was shown into the restaurant! Isn't it the staff responsibility and oversight for failing to put an occupied sign on the table? Why is there a need to verify with our elderly dad twice whether he is indeed a hotel guest? A while later, another staff by the name of George (we saw his name tag this time round) came over. To be fair, George did try to do some service recovery. But, as a commotion has already been created, my dad felt so embarrassed and he walked out of the restaurant without having breakfast at the hotel. We had been supporting and staying at Westgate every year during pre covid times (you can check my records). We had actually experienced a similar incident 3 years ago pre covid, where the attitude of the manager/staff was terrible. Despite this, we chose to return to Westgate again this year after covid, but it's very unfortunate that the service standard is severely lacking. Given the premium price point of Westgate vs other hotels around the Ximending area, the room is also becoming quite dated and not well maintained with the beds/pillows becoming soft. With this recurrence of our bad experience, Westgate will no longer be our family's top choice of hotels in Taipei.…
Fantastic location near the entrance to the Ximending shopping street. Easy to locate as it's 5 minutes walk from Ximen station exit 6. Clean, modern and quiet room on level 5. We had a corner room. Warm reception from the staff and good breakfast spread. We love the porridge with condiments. Special compliments to hotel staff Rafa Ding Wen Qi. He was really friendly and even helped find out where we could buy one of the porridge condiments that we loved.
Hotel running down even when I enter my executive suite for ntd6000 a night it feels so old and smells bad. Overpriced and front desk very unhelpful we even tried to ask for a hour late check and was refused. Laundry service delays can’t give an answer even when it will be done. It either needs a good make over or I would say for ntd6000 a night it’s not worth for the price at all. Better off staying in other branded hotels. It’s just overrated and overpriced due to the location in Ximending thumbs down
Very nice hotel in Taipei, spent my first and second quarantine periods here in April and June 2022, very clean rooms with all the amenities required to get through quarantine, I would have given 5 stars but found the staff ridged about food delivery, I’m not personally keen on local food so ordered in each day, if you miss the delivery slots stipulated by the hotel you end up getting cold food, not ideal when it’s the highlight of your day
It is not recommended to stay at a hotel which failed to deliver the service and blank apologies without helping the quarantine guests. The hotel only want to make a quick money during COVID-19 period, as a quarantine hotel, the hotel treated the quarantine guests as disease and discriminant the guests with poor guest services. They could only deliver the supplies or food from friends at fixed time, even your are in a hurry and wait for some supplies or document need for work from friends or family, you have to wait until they want to deliver to your door even though you not a COVID-19 confirmed case. I have been stay at other quarantine hotel in 2021, and West Gate provide not up-to-stand service to the guests, I would not stay at this hotel since the choice of quarantine hotels are limited. If I know the hotel would treat the guests as COVID-19 carriers, I would not stay here and book executive suite, so not worth to pay any pennies.…
This hotel is located in such a convenience location, super close to transport, and above all it is so close to all the food and shops. All the staff are friendly and helpful too, and made our stay very pleasant. Will definitely stay here again if I am visiting Taipei next time.
We loved our stay at he Westgate. The location is perfect, staff were very helpful; the buffer breakfast was good. The only problem was that the [comfortable] mattress on the bed was on a platform that was just a little larger than the mattress. The room was small; the platform was large and getting around bed seemed to be awkward. This was a minor matter, really. We'd certainly stay again.
Westgate hotel is still our choice for a visit to taipei. Location is just a 2 minute walk to the metro. Rooms are clean and the breakfast spread was wonderful. The staff are always cordial and helpful.
All front desk and concierges are nice and helpful , and environment are great and clean too. Is very convenient around the hotel , many restaurants and clothes shop , you can buy anything that you need immediately. Is a very nicely hotel , I would like to come back next time.
