I am certain that this hotel has two entrances with different standards and prices for rooms. What I mean is, there are two blocks of rooms with the same hotel name but very different prices, facilities, sizes of room and hospitality. For the sake of convenience, the differentiating factor is windows. One block of rooms has windows and better services whereas the other block does not have any windows at all in the rooms or bathrooms.

My friend and I stayed at Tan Hui Hotel for one night. We booked for the cheapest option available online which happened to be in the block with no windows. The hotel did not specify that the room would not have windows but just mentioned that it was a non-smoking room on Expedia. Hence, there was a mismatch of expectations because we read reviews of the other block (rooms with windows) and expected better from the hotel.

Anyhow, the receptionist told us that we could upgrade to a room with windows in the other block by paying NTD800 for one night. We were taken to the other block which definitely had a better reception and lobby than the other entrance. The rooms in the other block seemed more spacious and the bathrooms were also bigger. There were many small windows with some facing the lake that probably kept the room ventilated.

However, my friend and I decided not to upgrade to the other block and got a room with no windows i.e. the initial room we booked online.

The room:
The room was pretty small, stuffy and dimly lit with a double-sized bed. The furniture in the room was minimal with just a bed, an air-conditioner, two side-tables and a small dressing table with mirror. Free wifi was provided in the room which had strong connectivity. There was not enough space to open our small suitcases frankly speaking. Two complimentary sealed cups of water were provided. The air-conditioner was strong but at times quite strong, especially since it was situated right next to the bed. So far it was bearable.

The bathroom:
The bathroom was a bit disappointing as the shower and WC area had no division, so every time you take a shower everything in the bathroom got wet. The hotel should at least add shower curtains in the bathroom. There were no proper toiletries, the hand soap, hand towels and bathrobes were not provided either. Just two bath towels were provided for use. And the bathroom smelled bad and since there were no windows, the smell spread throughout the whole room in a matter of seconds.

The breakfast:
Breakfast was quite disappointing as well. My friend and I are vegetarians and that made it more difficult. The hotel just provided thick slices of breads, butter, jam, ham, egg and some fruits for breakfast with fruit juice, tea or coffee. We only ate two slices of bread since we could not have the egg or ham.

The staff:
The staff members were a bit aloof to be honest and barely spoke any English at all. Even the receptionist could not speak English. All thanks to one woman who could speak some broken English and helped us around.

The location:
Personally, the location was the only plus point and made our one day at the hotel more bearable. It was extremely close to the pier, bus station and the Yuchi Visitor Centre.

Anyway, the hotel was average given the price we had paid but I hope they can install the shower curtains, solve the bathroom smell issue and maybe add some more breakfast items to the breakfast menu!

The hotel is quite small (for me) but can find by walking follow google map. Opposite to shu sian lang hotel. There are two buildings and two entrances, that can enter from the pier, or parking lot of visiting center.

The room is clean as well as the bathroom. There are towels, shampoo, bath soap, hair dryer and toothbrush. Air conditioner is quite difficult to use (for me). The breakfast is american breakfast, beginning around 7am.

Nice staffs here. When consider from those points and the price, this hotel is worth staying, even there is no lake view provided.

The room is a little small for three adults but the bathroom is a good size and the beds are comfortable. It is very convenient coz one of the entrance is very near the ferry pier and the other entrance is near the Shui She Visitors' Centre where you get all the transport tickets as well as board or alight from local and inter-states buses / coaches. The owner, his wife and staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast is simple - toast with ham and egg prepared by the owner's wife. Coffee is excellent! There is a 7-11 a few doors away. There are lots of restaurants around.

Having trouble finding affordable accomodation at Sun Moon Lake? I had this issue too cos of the addresses being not specifically "sun moon lake" but of county / township of all sorts, so hopefully this will ease your burden.

Tan Hui Hotel seems to be very new and tastefully furnished. When we checked in we were told we were in the basement (which I initially wanted to protest) but the staff helped to carry our bags and led us to the room and we were very pleased! Our room had some mirror motifs at the headrest, beautiful light decor and they placed teddy bears on the beds. I find that a very nice touch. The bathroom was spacious and we were each provided with a very nicely packaged toiletries kit. It is very clean and WIFI is also available.

Location is excellent,10min walking distance from Shueishe Visitor Centre, 3min walking to the main pier for a nice riverside walk (and gawk at the hotels that get the view of the lake but pay the sky for it. but u stay across the street from them and save lots of $). Wake up early to catch the sunrise at Hanbi Lakeside Trail, a 5min walk from the hotel, and you can see Lalu island and enjoy the scenery before the big tour groups arrive. Enjoy!

Hotel on the B side are supposing to be newly renovated. The room size is consider adequate for two of us however room is in terrible condition. Filthy cushion stools placed next to the bed, wall with cobwebs and think layer of dust! Window blind which is filthy, looks like never been cleaned since installation and faulty as well. Bed divan is wrapped with white bed sheet and full of stains. Bathroom door handle had a thick layer of wall drilling dust. Bathroom is spacious but very filthy! Bathtub shower area is full of dirt and dust which I wonder if they had done any cleaning at all, Half of bathroom area is wet once you showered as there is no blinds or divider. Not worth paying to stay in a filthy room! Stay at your own risk!

Offering disposable towels to guests...reuse flip flops without disinfection..can't throw toilet paper into toilet bowls. $3000NTD per weekend night...
will not come back to this aweful place. Do not trust the online photos!

location is right off the pier to sun moon lake, very convenient, walking distance. Seems like a small boutique hotel, staff and boss were all very friendly and helpful, rooms are modern and very comfortable, we got a room with a huge bathroom/toilet, felt big enough to fit another bed inside!

beds were comfy, love the rainbath, breakfast is a set meal , we got 1 tray each (including the kids) - very generous portions.

we got a dinner recommendation to a restaurant within walking distance, which turned out to be the best meal we had the entire trip! well worth the 1 hour wait for a table (we went back after an hour, no need to wait there, they will call you when a table is ready)

Website picture not updated correctly. Paid NT4,000 for 2 double bed family suite at level 3. We stayed at the hotel which doesn't has teddy bears. Wi5 is good, noisy place due to neighbour building construction + noise from corridors and reception, poor breakfast (coffee/tea left at reception counter for self-service... almost cold), room very crampy and unable to walk after luggage left half open. The next day we woke up with bedbugs bite... my son ear, eye and forehead were all swollen for >5days and we itched all the way till back home. Terrible scars left from bedbugs bite and scratching!

Sun Moon Lake overpacked with tourists, tour buses and cars filled up the whole carpark! Not a good place to stay overnight to relax, only meant to see-and-go. Expensive place for food and souvenirs.

Really not worth it. Not what you expect from a 3000$ hotel room.

For 2 adults and 2 children the room was pretty small. The luggage barely fit in with us. The room was clean, light and had loan-teddybears that the kids loved. The breakfast downstairs in the lobby was nothing special but they could arrange for a vegetarian option when asked. Grandma at the counter even handed some extra bananas to us. After our stay we were double charged (cash and credit card) but after an e-mail and a sorry this was quickly solved.

"Rooms in B had jacuzzi tubs in every room (we took 3 rooms so saw them all). When you get off the elevator, rooms on the right would be smaller but have a view of the parking lot and the lake but the double rooms here are so small that you can only open the fridge door a quarter of the way before the bed stops it from opening wider. Rooms on the other side (left of the elevator) are slightly bigger but no view - just the tiled wall of the hotel across."
