Skylight B&B (bed and breakfast) is in a great location at one of the main piers of Sun Moon Lake, Ita Thao, which is an aboriginal village. The B&B is sited in the middle of the shopping street with many food stands and restaurants, only a 3-minute walk from Ita Thao Pier. Due to the neighboring high buildings, the rooms don't offer lake views. Despite this, Skylight B&B is proud of its modern comfortable design. Every guestroom is well equipped- with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, heating facilities, a flat-screen TV, a fridge, an electric kettle and free toiletries. The bathrooms each have an overhead shower and also a huge stone bathtub, which will definitely release your stress and wash your weariness away after a long day. The bed is queen size and it comfortably helps you have a good sleep at night. Guests are offered a fresh and delicious breakfast on the top floor of the B&B. They can relax and enjoy the sun terrace of our outdoor restaurant. Skylight B&B provides easy access to all attractions: a 15-minute walk to Ropeway Station, a 15-minute drive to Shuei-she Bus Station, and is an 80-minute drive from the Taichung High Speed Rail Station. Sun Moon Lake enjoys an abundance of unique and interesting sightseeing spots, such as Ci'en Pagoda, Xuanzang Temple, Shiwatou Trail, Dazhuhu Trail, Peacock Park, Wenwu Temple, Longfeng Temple, and also many lovely trails and bikeways. The Skylight staff know very well about the environment, and they can make your travel and stay the most enjoyable it can be. Furthermore, we speak your language!

Located at the town center next to the lake. A very beautiful and comfortable boutique hotel with great facility especially the bathroom. The bathroom has steam bath function. Strong Wifi signal. Breakfast is excellent that you can choose eastern style and western style.

Very happy to have stayed at the Skylight B&B. We stayed in the family room on the 6th floor with a massive and very modern and clean bathroom. You could relax in the enormous, sunken bathtub and watch TV from there through a window into the bedroom with 2 big, comfy beds (about 180cm wide each, but felt shorter than standard...?). You could close a blind in front of the window though if you wanted more privacy though. OUr children loved it though!
The room was also very clean and we liked it very much. The only thing that was a bit weird is that you only have a bit of a view from the bathroom as there is a roof in front of the bedroom's window with some big water tanks and solars right on eye level. So, no view there BUT the room is very light though.
We slept fantastically well as it was VERY quiet, not a sound to be heard. Loved that!
Due to the way the house is located right between 2 other houses I assume that on any floor beneath the 6th you would not even have daylight/windows.
There are more rooms on 7th floor though and they should have a great view I guess.
From the breakfast room on the top floor (8th) you do have a very nice view though and the breakfast itself was a very nice surprise (scrambled eggs and bacon with veggies and hashbrowns, as well as toast with jam and a fruit platter)! You could choose between Chinese and Western (don't know what the Chinese one would have been like).
The host working at check-in as well as in the breakfast room, was very approachable, friendly and her English was good enough to communicate.
Overall we thought that this quite small B&B was of so much higher standard than i.e. the 4-star hotel in Taipei we had stayed in the previous nights.
If you are looking for budget accommodation in a tiny village away from the very touristy areas at Sun Moon Lake, go for this one!!
We can highly recommend to rent some bikes at "Giant" in the "Delight Mall" (just google it) which is car ride away and do a tour around the lake (or at least as far as you can go) - BEAUTIFUL!!!

Love:-
- the toilets (with Grohe fittings and a spa pool)
- the high-tech control panel that controls the lights, aircon & TV (but only if you are sleeping on the side of the control panel)
- the Western breakfast (choose Western over the Eastern Taiwanese porridge!)
- walking distance to Ita Thao ferry terminal
- the spacious quad-sharing room
- the modern deco of the hotel
- 7eleven, family mart, souvenir & eating stores a few steps away
- powerful wi-fi everywhere in the hotel

Dislike:-
- the double room with window and without window had absolutely NO difference. I felt cheated for having to pay more for the double room with the window
- the double room is awfully cramp. there's hardly any space to open up the luggage/walk around
- it's hard to find this hotel if you've never been there before because it's lobby is so small, it gets buried among the other souvenir/food stores in the same row
- the control panel that is only easily access by the person sleeping on the same side of the panel

I highly recommend this place!!! What a good price compared to all the other pricier and older hotels around Sun Moon Lake.

Located in the quiet side of Sun Moon Lake this is a very friendly place to stay. Around the B&B are local places to eat and souvenirs shops as well. The lake is just 2 minutes walking away, and you will find some options for boat trips around it (ask at the reception). Less than 1 km away there is a cable car with great views. A bus stop to reach places around the lake is 5 minutes from the B&B.
The room was very comfortable with the feeling that much attention has been paid to the design of it, but no view from it.
Breakfast, on the top floor of the place, where you can see some view of the lake, was adequate to start the day.

Really enjoyed staying at this b&b. It has a great location in the middle of the "town". It is only 3 minutes walk to the lake, a short 10 minute walk to the gondola, butterfly garden, bike rentals, and multiple day hike trails. Service was fantastic and friendly. We were upgraded to a room on the higher floor (602) because we were staying there more than 2 nights. Best to stay above the 4th or 5th floor since there is some scaffolding in the way due to new construction in the area. The rooms are very modern, comfortable, and the bathroom was downright luxurious with the rain shower head in the shower and a beautiful separate spacious bathtub right next to it (perfect for a hot soak after a long day's hike). Breakfast was pretty good and portions were very generous. Can fill you up for a good 5-6 hours if need be. After checking out and boarding our boat, the owner tracked us down and returned the charger I left in the room. The staff does speak English but it helps if you know some Chinese, makes conversations go a lot quicker.

Love the lemon verbena toiletries & little thoughtful extras, "raining" shower and square tub with waterfall faucet. Given the highest floor (7th) as we booked on a quiet weekday. Rates higher during weekend. Enjoyed our stay and the breakfast very much. Would recommend buying some food and drinks for a private dining on the open air rooftop area even though the view of Sun Moon Lake has been partially blocked by other buildings. Best for those who enjoy peaceful surroundings and early to bed.

we stayed in a double room on the 5th floor. The room was very spacious, the bed was extreamly comfortable, there was a TV, really good aircon and some tea, water and cookies were provided. The highlight however was the bathroom with a large window with a nice view and a great tub! the hotel was generally very modern, clean and in a really good state. The breakfast was delicious! the bed& breakfast is situated in a smaller town on the opposite side of the lake from the main tourist town. This means that there's a lot less people and it's a lot calmer. You can get here by boat or bus, but it's not very convenient if you have to leave really early the next day.

Stayed here in early December last year. It has fantastic location - just walk out of the door for the main street for all that street food and a further 2 minute walk leads you to the pier (go there in the morning for a really scenic and tranquil walk). Strictly speaking, I would not consider this to be a 'bed and breakfast' simply because it has rooms that are of a standard hotel. The rooms are a tad small, but for the price, you really can't complain. The bath is also very interesting too, with a very nice bathtub! Sadly, the rooms (at least the one I stayed in) do not have views so that was a minor disappointment. Breakfast was a choice of eastern and western food and both options were good, cooked fresh by the owner himself. What I didn't like was the suggestions provided by the owner; he didn't seem to provide very good recommendations of how to tour Sun Moon Lake, but this will not be a problem if you understood Chinese since you could just wander around the whole area with just a map and by consulting the road signs. Would recommend for Chinese speaking tourists, since staying at a bed and breakfast in Taiwan really requires one to at least understand Chinese.

P.S. Do check out the abroginal cultural village nearby. The ticket price may seem steep, but it is one of the best attractions there and is very fun to explore. It is, however, a tad commercialized though!

Upon checking into this property I was immediately impressed with the friendly smiling face of the receptionist. I can only confirm that most of what you read about this place is true!

- good location.
- well maintained and very clean.
- lovely, friendly staff.
- nice bathroom with good sized tub to soak in.
- good breakfast. I opted for the western style each morning and was well pleased.
- nice view of the lake from our room on the 7th floor.

From the hotel you can explore around the lake or venture up to the cultural centre on the cable car. If you want to indulge head for the Lalu hotel for afternoon tea..... not an English style tea and cucumber sandwiches offering!!!!!........ but an indulgent lunch style buffet with a great choice of food. A bargain at about $25 (aus).

We have asked different drivers for quoting the cost and have conclusion for you: 1. from xin she hua hai exhibition to Skylight B&B, NT$.3000 - driver Mr. Chen and his contact number +886(0)939-618217 or +886(0)49-2850589. 2. from Skylight B&B to Flying cow ranch to Chocolate republic to Taipei apartment (a day trip within 10 hours), NT$7500 - driver Mr. Wei and his contact number +886(0)919-055090. Hope this would help you.

Hi Mirah,Did you mean that you're coming to our b&b from Taichung High Speed Rail Station (HSR)? If that is right, then 1. Taxi: cost of one way is nt$1400-1800. 2. Nantou Bus: from HSR to Shueishe (水社), Sun Moon Lake, cost nt$190 per person. However, you need to transfer to a bus (Lake-surrounding bus), around nt$40, or a boat to Itathao (across pier of Shueishe), where our b&b is located. Opposite to the 7-11 store in Itathao to be exact. Ps. The final bus and boat depart before 5pm.If you have any more questions, feel free to contact us at sky.lightbb@msa.hinet.netBest regards, jessica
Answer from SkylightBB
Nantou, Taiwan
Hi Thanarudee, You can take a Nantou Bus from Taichung High Speed Rail (HSR) Station to Sun Moon Lake. It takes about 1.5 hour and the last stop is called Shuei-she, which is a peir opposite to Ita-thao. It means that you need to transfer to a Lake-Surrounding Bus or a ferry from Shuei-she to Ita-thao. However, please notice that the last bus departs at 6pm and boat at 5pm. So if you arrive to Taichung HSR Station late and can't catch up the bus before 4pm, we will sugget you take a taxi directly to our B&B. The fare of taxi is approximately NT$1400-1800. You may contact the taxi driver, Mr. Ming, at his mobile +886-938 355638. We highly recommend this kind driver. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you! Best regards, Jessica Skylight B&B
