My wife and I thoroughly enjoy our stays at Laurel Villa. It’s located in Shuishe, a pier area that’s smaller and quieter than the Ita Thao Shopping District, but close to walking and biking trails and with several restaurants and shops. Laurel Villa is quiet and the rooms and lobby are always immaculate. There’s a bountiful breakfast each morning, mostly traditional Taiwanese, but with plenty of toast (with several toppings), fried eggs, and coffee. The owners are knowledgeable and friendly. Early morning bike tours are an option and discounted ferry tickets are available. This is our go-to place at Sun Moon Lake. Highly recommended!
Laurel Villa was located extremely conveniently near the Shuishe Pier, and a comfortable walk to many of the sights around there on the Sun Moon Lake. The back door of the Villa was just across the street from the parking lot, where residents could park for free. Next to the inn were restaurants and shops. Which added to the convenience. The inn itself was very well designed and very clean. The decor was modern and the room was well appointed. The breakfast was very nice -- good quality local fare. The service was very attentive. The ladies organized morning tours to view sunrises as well. They sold ferry tickets at a fair price -- much cheaper than the vendors out on the street. Overall, I would recommend the inn to anyone planning to stay in Shuishe.
Being a frequent traveler for work, I’m usually very particular about the places I stay when I’m on vacation. This place doesn’t disappoint at all. Clean room, and reasonably well equipped room with the required amenities. Great location, and they provide subsidized tickets. The complimentary morning tour is a must do!!! The people running the place are very friendly, helpful and they know what they are doing.
Stayed here for 2 nights and the experience was great. The rooms were clean and they had Housekeeping every day, unlike some other minsu. What makes the difference to this place is the personal touch from the boss. He brings his guests for an early morning cycling trip along sun moon lake at different lookouts to get the best view of the sunrise. For first morning, we woke up early and gathered at 5.50 am. It was foggy and we did not manage to catch a nice sunrise. However we enjoyed the cool morning ride and the boss’ narrative of sun moon lake. The boss grew up here and knew a lot about the lake. For the second morning, the boss shared the best walking trail to see the lake which was an easy for the elderly folks. We caught a better view of sun moon lake and its serenity, before the tourist crowd flood the lake with the cruise ships. For a different and local experience, away from the crowd, this minsu is highly recommended. The morning cycling trip is a must and the boss speaks good English. …
Beautiful place and warm welcome with good advices for the differents visites (bike rent, boat ticket). Do not hesitate to book this lovely place well design. The deluxe room is perfect, you will enjoy your stay.
From 19 to 21 Nov 2019 I stayed in this B&B in at Sun-Moon Lake, which is the biggest fresh water lake in Taiwan. The town is nothing special it has some restaurants and shops around, they can be seen in a 10-15min stroll. I reached the B&B by bus 6670 from Taichung HSR station, which takes about 90min and can be paid by EasyCard (cheaper then cash 74NT$ vs 100NT$ ~ 1.70US$ ~ 3US$). The very friendly hostess welcomed me and gave me room 601, which was a 4 person room, however great for single or double use, I would not stay here with 4. It’s relatively expensive compared to the surrounding hotels for what it offers. It’s only a B&B so I won’t pay that price again of 9960NT$ ~ 327US$ for 2 nights. The big bed was comfy however pillows needed to get used to. Before I say more, the room was super noisy at times, read below. The hostess made the difference as she really was very helpful in explaining a-lot and telling what activities were worthwhile depending on my preferences. The numbers: -Price/Quality: 3***of 5***** -Price: $$$$ of $$$$$ -Quality: 3*** of 5 -Service at Reception: 5***** of 5 -Bus Station pickup service: No need the hotel is a 3min walk away -Service Overall: 3*** of 5 (hostess 5 of 5) -Services Offered: 3*** breakfast 07:30-09:30am only -Wheelchair Accessible: 4**** (elevator) Room My room had no view of the lake even though it was on the lake side. The room was bigger than normal as it was a 4 person bedroom, however I don’t think I would stay here with 2 kids or 4 adults, you just don’t have your own space. The bed is comfortable and the pillow very firm which I liked a lot, but needed a lot of molding to get use to and find your way to sleep. There was no closet and only 5-6 hangers so if you want to hang a lot of clothes this would not be the room for you. Also when others flushed the toilet or drained the bath or showered I could hear this very loudly. Both nights I woke up about an hour before I wanted too, that’s something I never do at home... so I’d say it’s not the best place to sleep. Bathroom The bathroom was equipped with just a few amenities incl. tooth brushes (4) and 2 shower gels and 2 shampoos. There was a new nice bath and a rain shower (which I didn’t use as I enjoyed the bath). The bathroom has all glass windows so be sure to close the blinds, also the lighting was poor at the mirror it was hard to do anything else in front then brush. Breakfast The breakfast is heavy Asian style, so if you do not like eating this in the morning, buy something yourself at the 7-11 Store or FamilyMart which have limited options on Europeans stuff. Also the breakfast time is limited 07:30-09:30am. Overall For the price and the location I think I would not stay here again. I think there are nicer hotels around for the same price with pool etc. …
As mentioned numerous times by other reviewers, this minsu bed and breakfast was wonderful. The owners were especially friendly throughout my stay. They provided some tips on where to go during sunrise to get the best views of the mountains in the distance. The minsu is situated within 2 minutes away from the pier where you can get the best views! The room was spacious and nicely designed. It included European branded showers and bathtubs. I definitely took advantage of a night-time bath soak in the tub. Bed was large and comfortable. I was looking forward to joining the early morning bicycle tour that other reviewers mentioned below, but it was unfortunately cancelled since there were not enough people who wanted to participate. In the end, I rented a bicycle for an hour from one of the nearby shops and rode around myself after breakfast. Speaking of breakfast – simply delicious. I especially loved the traditional Taiwanese breakfast items – bean curd with carrots and seaweed, greens, sweet potatoes, and gluten. Reminds me of my childhood and what my mom would make me as a snack when I was younger. One thing to note – as they operate as a bed and breakfast, check-in must be done before 6pm. I had failed to notice this while traveling to Sun Moon Lake from Taipei, but managed to arrive about 6:10pm, so no problems there. You’ll want to get in earlier to orient yourself before sunset anyways.…
Mr Xu who runs the place took pains to introduce the place, opened up a couple of rooms with different decor to allow us to take our pick. Who does that? It’s like visiting a Friend from afar! Decent bedding and Hans Grohe bathroom fittings are a plus point. Granny Xu an affable friendly chatty lady who’s always ready to dispense advise on where to go/eat/play. Complimentary 530am bicycle tour is a winner. Personal touch from Xu who took us on an off beaten track around Sun Moon Lake and identified the best views for pics and watching sunrise on an ethereal misty morning. Perfectly finished with a simple home cooked brekkie.
This minsu was an excellent choice for our one night stay at Sun Moon Lake. The location is in a prime area just across from the Shuishe Pier. It’s one of three stops on the ferries that take you around the lake. Laurel Villa offers its guests a discounted ferry ticket that you can redeem at the pier. Wayne was the consummate host. Quick with suggestions and his morning tour was really informative and personal. We had a very pleasant conversation with his mother and she offered us some dining options. The room was very well appointed and the bathroom with the big tub was very appealing. The bus stop from Taichung is a short 5 minute walk away and very convenient. Tips: if taking the Nantou bus back, try to take the ones that are :40 past the hour. That route avoids Puli and saved 20 minutes. There’s a restaurant immediately to the right of the Laurel Villa at the back entrance. It’s really good and cheap. There’s an English menu you can ask for.…
Mr and Mrs. Wen, and staff were gracious hosts. Jessa made a delightful breakfast each morning. Mr. Wen provided an early morning bicycle ride around Sun Moon Lake for a more intimate and less touristy experience to areas less traveled. The guest room was comfortable, bed delightfully firm, and quiet.
