Location is great, along the main road, few minutes walk to Zhongshan Station, where there's a underground shopping link to Taipei Main Station.
Plenty of Japanese and local eateries, hotpot, K bbq and fast food joints nearby. Pharmacies, convenient stores and a huge department store are also in the area.
Room is spacious, clean and comfortable, bathroom is big. Deco may look dated but it's well maintained. Staff are courteous and helpful, which made our stay a pleasant one.
A good place to stay.
The hotel is quite old, but the rooms are big. On the website it says 2 queen beds, but in reality there were 2 king sized beds. Perfect for family.
We will definitely book the same hotel next time to go to Taiwan. Highly recommended.
The room with the King bed was nicely furnished, and our room had a shower with 5 nozzles, as well as a full-sized tub. The only drawback was that the room was a little small, but hey, it's Asia.
I can't say enough about the location, and you literally have restaurants at your doorstep. You have a nice quaint Japanese district across the street, with great Japanese cuisine. The subway station is only a 5 minute walk away too.
In all, a great place to stay, and I'll make it a point to stay there again if I'm ever in Taipei.
Hotel staffs are always very cheerful and helpful, even at 1am or 5am in the morning. (jet lag :) ) Inside the hotel, there are two restaurants: one Chinese (Cantonese) style and one western style (steak, pasta, cheesecake, etc).
The free breakfast buffet has everything for everyone, even the kids look forward to it each morning. A few mornings, we went out for fried noodle sticks and soy milk. It's so nice to have so many choice around us.
A few afternoons, we came back for the afternoon tea. Since, our hotel is adjacent to several big department stores, underground shopping center and other attractions, the short break was really refreshing.
The house's special Peking Duck dish is to die for, you should definitely reserve one for dinner. We only sampled a few other dishes from banquet menu, and they are all excellent. Make sure to check with the staffs for the daily specials, since they change daily and sometimes they might not even have any.
Hotel's business center is well stocked. It might comes handy.
Our room is huge compare to some other places that we have stayed before. All of the lights, AC, TV, network, etc are computer activated/controlled. I thought that was pretty "green". Bathroom has all of the toiletry kit. We have both tube and shower. In the shower, there was even massage shower heads. Kids had tones of fun with that. :)
The only complaint that we might have is the cable TV reception. Some channels are not clear sometimes.
The network speed in the room was very swift.
Hotel is about 5min walk from Metro (subway). There are over a dozen of buses stopped right in front of the hotel. It's about 5min taxi ride (or 5min walk and 2min subway ride) from the main train station.
We were able to get around most of the time using Metro and buses. Make sure you buy a metro pass, it's accepted at tones of places. You can recharge the pass at most of the the convenience stores. However, with the abundant of taxicabs, that's a good alternative. Most of the cab drivers don't speak English; however, you can probably ask the hotel staffs to writeup an direction for you.
During our first stay, the room was nicely appointed and spotless so we had no complains. Only grouse was that they did not have wireless Internet.
Problems only surfaced when we returned for our second stay. We asked for a non smoking room but the room was full of smoke odor. We also faced a problem with the air conditioning which we informed the staff but nothing was done about it.
Location of the hotel is close to the shopping area but the train station is a good 10 minutes walk away. Breakfast was unappetizing and lacked variety.
This is my third trip to Taipei and I would not recommend this hotel for the overall location and value. I personally prefer to stay near Taipei main station or Xi Men Ding and there are many better hotels in that area at a better value.
"You can see Taipei 101 (from a distance) if your room ends with 06,08, or 10 and on the higher floors. Suite is the same size as normal room, so no real point on getting it."Read full review
"Get the Family room (also called XX) for 2 US King Sized beds. Recommend higher floor to avoid street noise."Read full review
"The VIP room was only a little bit more expensive but totally worth it. The room was very large and noise was not a problem."Read full review
