We called in the early afternoon to request an evening meal and received a prompt return call from the proprietor saying that they could accommodate my request for a vegetarian meal. We arrived earlier than expected with another request - a place where we could work for a while on our laptops. Alexis very graciously said we could work in the restaurant/bar area. When dinner arrived it was a wonderful vegetarian meal, clearly prepared by a chef who really cared about providing a great meal. The proprietors were delightful to chat with and we felt very much at home
My husband and I stopped in for a drink after viewing a property nearby. We were met by the owner who was very friendly and had excellent local knowledge. It looks like a wonderful place to stay. There are plenty of things to see and do nearby, including the breath taking wittenham clumps.
If you want a glossy boutique hotel or a clinical standard chain hotel, don’t stay here. This hotel has its own special charm - each room has its own unique character, and the wood burner in the bar room is awesome. The place is immaculately clean, the owners are welcoming hosts, and the selection at breakfast must surely cater for all tastes!
This is a former pub that now operates as a travellers' inn with about 5 rooms. On entering from the cold wet darkness, there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere with classical music playing and a log fire in the bar, beers on tap and a selection of wines. I was staying alone for business, and this is the perfect place - good quality, nice & clean and with a small selection of food that is nicely cooked, not zapped by microwave. I had a steak pie with mash & vegetables with a glass of red wine - and it was delicious! The room was on the 2nd floor (no lift at this price) with a comfortable double bed and small bathroom with shower (I was offered the choice of bath or shower). The room was a reasonable size and with tea & coffee making kit The only thing I would have changed is that I wanted to do some reading for work and the lighting was insufficient both upstairs in the room and downstairs in the bar. It would also be great if all hotels and inns offered a choice of pillows - but the latter point is being picky and applies to anywhere you stay - I'm thinking of just taking a pillow with me actually Anyway, more importantly, I will look forward to returning to the Kingfisher which has much more character than the profusion of anaemic chains that are in this price range!…
Overnight stay for work commitments. Lovely people who made a real effort to put people at ease. Great food and nice, clean accommodation. Beautiful walks close by along the Thames river. Ticked all the boxes for me!
