Stayed one night, not long enough. Upgraded to front balcony room which was excellent. (Had a look into the room we booked on ground floor which seemed fine as well). Very comfortable bed, small sitting area, and of course the balcony with lovely view (and low roof!!). Fully equipped kitchenette sufficient for breakfast and small evening meal if you wanted...

Dear Old Oak, You are a beautiful old lady but you are very noisy!! We had two nights in Ruru suite which is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean - well done housekeeping. This suite has two bedrooms and access to the balcony at the front overlooking the beautiful Mangonui Harbour. So pretty. Ruru suite is alongside the Indian Spice...

A small boutique hotel - only 6 rooms The Ponga suite (upstairs) -Napa ious and well appointed: big bathroom with claw foot bath and separate shower; big, comfortable bed; robes; small but efficient kitchenette. Great views from the wraparound verandah A vase of fresh flowers in the room Helpful host Peaceful and quiet, even though the road can be busy...

We stayed in the Ponga suite upstairs and had the whole balcony to ourselves, the claw foot bath was relaxing for the body and the picturesque views of the bay was wonderful for the soul. Our only regret was having to leave. What a beautiful and relaxing place to be, truly a hidden haven. Simon was very helpful in providing...

After a long day travelling the beautiful roads of northern NZ, we happened, by chance, to stop outside "The Old Oak". The only room available was the smallest room in the Hotel - we snapped it up as the whole hotel is full of character, restored beautifully and filled with a lovely ambiance. The lakeside setting of Mangonui is magnificent,...

My husband and I travelled to the far north to get a feel for the area. We had pre booked at the Old Oak before leaving. My first impressions were of how friendly Jean was on the phone. Then there was the prompt email with a few added hints of what to do while we were in the area. Upon...

What a wonderful surprise this lovely hotel turned out to be! Not having much faith in the far north accomodation after a disappointing B&B in Russell. We were on the move and my husband found The Old Oak on the internet. I must say the professional photos don't do it justice. From the time we arrived we were enveloped with...

And better than all the rest. The Inn is charming and unique. It has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail. It combines old world elegance with a modern flair. The location makes a great base for day trips to Cape Reinga in the north and the Waipoua forest on the west coast. The many beaches in Doubtless Bay...

This beautiful hotel is a top holiday experience and is situated overlooking the bay. It has been wonderfully restored with quality fittings and has the added bonus of a charming garden, good WiFi and excellent tv reception. Nothing was too much trouble for Jean and Gary, our hosts. We had meals out in the local cafés and explored the area...
