We stayed in cabin 805 for 2 nights as a family of four traveling with Canterbury. The cabin itself is exactly what I was hoping for in terms of charm and rustic appeal. It's quite cozy (aka small) but that is exactly what I was expecting for a one room cabin. Despite this, there is plenty of bed space for everyone to sleep comfortably. The fireplace was the highlight and we used it every night to not only stare at the fire but make smores for the kids.

There are sleds left for use by the cabin and there is lots of area to play in the snow outside. You could even let the kids play while watching from your front window.

For two nights, the one room cabin was perfect as we spent the entire day outside on activities and we were pretty exhausted at night. If we had been staying for a longer period of time, I would have rather had a bit more space to put the kids to bed before us but that is just personal preference.

Even without the fire, the cabin was very warm. The hallway with drying cabinet was essential to help us keep our piles of winter gear separate from the living area. The sauna was a great feature for my husband who enjoyed it both nights.

The bathroom is very basic but functional. The shower is an open plan with no doors so EVERYTHING gets wet in there when you are showering so be warned.

Our cabin was quite a walk from the hotel lobby (where breakfast and dinner was served). Walking to the hotel wasn't too difficult as it was mostly downhill but walking back while dragging 2 small children was a bit of a slog. It was only a few days so we all managed but I would have loved to have stayed in the closer cabins.

The food was included in our tour and it left a lot to be desired but we had very low expectations with regard to the food having read reviews ahead of time. I would suggest bringing snacks if you can fit in your luggage since the shop was never open when we were at the hotel.

From start to finish the experience was amazing, we stopped in a log cabin around a 10 minute snowy walk from the main hotel, the hotel had a plentiful supply of sledges to make the walk more fun for thr kids and aduts too! Drinks were pricey but we weren't there for drinks! Entertainment staff fabulous too. We all had an amazing time.

Have stayed here for a week and was my best experience ever for a holiday! The scenery is like a true winterwonderland, and breathtaking.
We had our own cabin in the forest with kitchen, fireplace and sauna.
Wood was supplied daily. The restaurant was very nice. Very big breakfasts and good choices for dinner. Try the house-special; reindeer on a hotplate. hmm. mouthwatering. Possibilities to ski, just behind the hotel, and excursions right on the doorstep. One warning it was minus 35' celsius !!! Have fun there !!

Just back from Christmas 2015 trip. Excellent resort. Beautiful place. Wonderful people. Great fun. Wowwee experience indeed. Magical snow. Ok food. Just a massive shame to have to spend so much time on all the coaches (there was seven in all on this trip and no opting out) going to all the wonderful activities that are included (Reindeer Farm, Huskies, Snow Mobiles, Elves Houses, Meet Santa, etc) in the Canterbury Travel Christmas holiday package we booked on through personal recommendation from their sales team in the UK. (No mention of it being a coach tour though - which is the BIG problem here). We went back and forth so many times in a clock work spider web spiral it was a bit unreal. You can't knock the place nor the service from the staff involved but if you are looking at booking this then please for your own peace of mind (before you part with that five grand fee or more) just ask lots and lots of questions to get your whole head around what's actually going to happen throughout each day because it came as a big surprise to us and our two young children of seven & five. Travel sickness anyone? Especially; how long do you spend on a coach travelling around each day? Answer that one please! Effectively from 9am to 4pm we spent four hours on the coach and three hours doing activities. My wife & I had no idea this was going to be the case - we anticipated, an all included, on site (or at least nearby) equipped resort as depicted on the website of Canterbury Travel and we feel it was a bit mis-sold as an unique Christmas resort destination because the activities included are all well off site. Miles away. If it was all in one place and you bum wasn't on a coach for 4 hours a day to enjoy it then it would of been absolutely perfect and far more relaxed and enjoyable. Issue's then arose with time spent on each activity being quite short (partcularly Santa himself - we had three minutes before the hurry up came to get back on the coach - we have the video if you want to see it). That is not good enough. You have to get in & out of your snow gear all day long too throughout. And its move along because the next coach is now coming........ Maybe it was all over subscribed this year but one thing is for certain it won't be recommended as anything other than a coach tour with a return to this fab resort which is such a shame. We had a welcome rest day which was spent entirely on site without any travel what so ever - this was absolutely bliss for us all. Maybe our mistake was in not realising the entirety of this trip - so do ask questions before going. Watch out for the wasted last day of 'souvenir shopping' for two hours too on the way home - capped off with being deposited at the Rovaniemi Airport along with 500 other holiday makers spending hours queing up without a travel rep to be seen............ It could all be done a lot better by far. Happy to answer any questions folks especially from Canterbury Travel if you are there. I'll report back with any feedback........

My boyfriend and I stayed in one of Scandic Luosto's log cabins in December 2010. We stayed from 12th - 16th. The cabins are so lovely and cosy with a fireplace and sauna. They are dotted around the forest so it's extra peaceful and secluded - you definitely feel like you are surrounded by nature and will not be disturbed. The cabins were very clean and the beds were comfy. There is a little kitchen area and dining table next to an amazing stone fireplace. We even had a sled outside the front door which was great for collecting firewood (there are containers of firewood dotted around the cabins) and also great for us to sled down the hills on (we felt like big kids!!!) Breakfast is included in the price which is great, and in the mornings we just had to make the short walk to the main cabin where the resturant is. The food was great, there is a large selection for breakfast and we ate dinner here every evening (we had to pay for dinner, it is not included in the price - please be warned that Finland does cost more than England so make sure you have enough for the food, drinks etc). All the staff were very warm and welcoming and were happy to help and answer our questions. They happily gave us maps of the area, which showed us where we could book excursions, the other hotels in the area, gift shops, restaurants and where all the log cabins are situated to help you find your way through the forest. The entire Luosto area is pretty small and quite easy to wander round - the little gift shops are lovely and the nearby Hotel Luostotunturi has a nice swimming pool which we ventured to one afternoon!

If you're a couple looking for a quiet get away in a beautiful snowy location then I definitely recommend coming here, especially at the beginning of December as we were almost the only people in Luosto the week we went! We were told by locals that people do not normally visit until the week before Christmas which meant that it was extra peaceful and secluded and for many of the excursions we went on we were on our own with the guide. This was such a bonus as the guides tailored it a bit more to what we wanted, and spent more time on the things we were interested in. The people in this area are so friendly and helpful, we did so much during our time here including lots of snowmobiling, ice fishing, husky sledding, visiting a husky farm, reindeer sledding and much more.

Luosto is definitely worth a visit if you want to stay in a peaceful snowy part of the world with beautiful scenery, and Scandic Luosto is a great place to stay if you want a lovely cosy log cabin secluded in the forest, nice food, friendly helpful locals and the option to do some amazing, unforgettable activities such as husky sledding, snowmobiling through the fells and snowshoe trekking to see the northern lights.

We did the 3 night magical interlude in December 2014. We stayed in a log cabin, a short walk from the hotel. The organisation of the trip was really good, once we arrived, we didn't have to think, and did the most amazing things, husky rides, reindeer, snow mobiles and of course, meeting Santa. The staff and elves were fantastic and made it so memorable. The children in our group ranged from 3.5 to 8, all enjoyed!! The food was fine, it is cooked and served as a buffet so you would find something you like. Reading reviews before we went I was concerned about the food, but really, the bad reviews seem unjustified. As a group we had a couple of small glitches, really only things which were relevant to our group, and not worth listing off on here, but I have to say, they were dealt with and sorted very quickly. The suits and boots provided were great quality and did the job keeping the cold out. We paid extra for Mrs Claus to come to our cabin and read a story to the children, wow, what a great idea. I would most definitely recommend this. The days soon whizz by, so if you do it, make the most of every second, for us, it was a once in a lifetime experience and the memories will be treasured forever. I just wish I could get the song out of my head ;) ... All together now 'we are off in search of, Santa and his elves....'

We booked a 5 day (4 night) tour with Canterbury Travel to take the children to see Father Christmas (Children 10 & 16). We thought if we waited another year, our youngest would be too old. Infact, compared to the age of the other children there, she was much older anyway!!
We stayed in the log cabins a short walk from Scandic's main restaurant & reception. We loved it! It was really cosy and we had a log fire. I would love to return... but these holidays are by no way cheap!!! We live where snow is a rarity so the treat for the kids was even more special. We were also really lucky to see the Northern Lights!
The cabins have an open plan living room with log fire, built in beds, table I chairs and a small kitchenette. We only used that to boils a pan of water for hot chocolate, tea & coffee. There is a wet room shower room, and also a private sauna, which is great for defrosting toes!
Theres a handy drying cabinet too for the all in one suits (we rolled around in the snow in) we were issued with to keep us warm in the minus 10 temperatures.
The food in teh Scandic Restaurant was pretty basic, but tasted lovely. We never left hungry, and the kids found things to eat also. The prices of drinks though being Scandinavia is high. £5 a pint of lager, and we skipped on the wine at £30 a bottle!
It was an organised tour we were on and we were ferried around in a coach looking for Santa (singing a cheesy but entertaining song in between stops.. well, you've got to get into the sprit of these things!). We enjoyed reindeer & husky rides, and going on the snowmobiles.
Summed up: Great accommodation; magical; a little cheesy, but fun for the kids!

We spent 4 nights in the hotel in a suite with a sauna. The extra money for the suite and sauna was great and as a family we loved it. The room was large and clean and on the ground floor which was great for the kids to go outside and play. The hotel was nice and the staff friendly, the buffet was small but we didn't have any issues finding food for us all to eat and our kids are pretty fussy. The holiday was amazing the location great and seeing the northern lights was a dream come true.

We paid for the husky trip which was good but was barely 1 1/2 hrs long and was incredibly expensive for what it was. It was very good but Thomson really do take the Mickey with the ridiculous price.

I would have rated this holiday as a 5 however the whole point of the trip was to meet the real santa and our girls were so excited. However on the last evening we had the supposed gala meal which was just the usual small buffet In the hotel with everyone crammed in one room. It was totally disorganised and when we did meet santa it was for 2 minutes in the room next door and was completely unbelievable. A 2 year old wouldn't have been convinced, my kids were upset and after spending all that money we were devastated.

Considering the cost and the fact that it was a once in a lifetime trip, Thomson should have done much better we were totally appalled. We could have gone to any hotel or shopping centre to meet santa like that. UNBELIEVABLE!! Thomson I would give you zero stars for this!!

Just spent 4 days in Luosto which we booked with Thomson holidays. Lapland was as beautiful as expected, it was super magical. Our log cabin was just as you would imagine, it was so cosy with a real fire.

The hotel we stayed in was pleasant enough, food very basic and not 4 star but the staff very nice. Your kids will basically get nothing but chicken nuggets and chips.

We had some brilliant days exploring and sledging, building snowmen and having snowball fights.

The best experience was the Huskey driving, loved it.

Thomson I'm a little bit disappointed in your exploitation of tourists. Canterbury travel charge far less for the excursions and their clients take priority at this hotel. Jake [--] is clearly fobbing people off in a bid to sell excursions by telling everyone they've sold out then magically finding more. I found it extremely sneaky. He was also full of himself and rude to us spoiling our last night and making my daughter cry. Not on Thomson, we only asked a question and there was no need to be so rude.

We have just returned from 4 days in Luosto travelling with Thomson and had an amazing time.
The flight out to Luosto was full of fun and games with Jingle Bell Ben providing excellent entertainment to keep the kids busy. The best part was singing carols just before arriving in Luosto which the kids loved.
On arrival at the airport we were met by dozens of Elves dancing and singing which was fantastic. We then had a short walk towards the exit where our own Elf was waiting by our coach. When we landed it was -27 and snow was falling which was perfect.
We then embarked on our journey to Luosto which took about 1 hour and 20 mins. On route we met our Thomson entertainer YO-YO and Christmas Carol (Elf) who gave us information about the hotel and resort, safety instructions and a little bit of history about the area. We made a stop on the way to pick up all of our clothing and finally arrived at the hotel a few minutes after this was done.
On arrival we were met by friendly staff at the hotel and checked in within a matter of minutes. All the paperwork and keys were waiting on the desk and handed out straight away.
We were provided with complimentary such on the first day after travelling which was delicious. We then got kitted up for fun in the snow and sledging in the grounds of the hotel.
In the evening we went to see YO-YO and Krackers Kirsty who provided the entertainment throughout our stay. The kids had a great time and loved every minute. I would like to say that YO-YO and Kirsty were amazing and had all the time in the world for the children.
The entertainment throughout was superb and included a winter Olympics outside, a walk to see the Northern Lights, toasting marshmallows building snowmen. The entertainment team were amazing and put so much effort into making it fun for the kids.
The Christmas meal and meeting Santa was amazing on the last night, with fireworks and seeing him ride off into the woods on a snowmobile.
The taster sessions were excellent at the Reindeer Farm and we booked up for the Reindeer Safari which the kids loved. It is extra money but well worth it.
The food at the hotel and facilities were great and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. The hotel room was clean and tidy and daily visits were made by the staff.
On the last day we left the hotel and headed back to Rovaniemi with a visit to Santa's village to buy some presents before the short flight back to the UK. The flight home was again very entertaining with Jingle Bells Ben in full flow with his singing, dancing and joke telling.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Kirsty and Y0-YO who worked very hard providing entertainment for all the kids, they were fantastic. A mention for Snowflake Jake who was excellent working in the main reception area and providing information for trips.
I can honestly say we had the best time ever and the kids really enjoyed themselves playing in the snow, dancing with Kirsty and YO-YO and seeing the Real Father Christmas.
Thomson, you should be very proud of your staff, Kirsty YO-YO, Snowflake and Jingle Bells Ben who were amazing. Its an easy 10/10 for us
Thank you all once again for an amazing time

Hi, We have also booked through TUI. Did you find out what clothing gets supplied and what is there to do in Luosto. What are the best activities to do and is it better to book through TUI or local agents? Any help would be appreciated.

More casual winter clothes - given the Santa theme we wore Xmas jumpers and trousers / smart jeans! And most people in the restaurant given it was all Canterbury travel guests were same.

Yes the snowmobile ride was disappointing on our trip but all the other activities were brilliant. Personally we would have been too tired to do any more activities after returning back to the log cabin. Leaving each morning at 9.00 and not returning till 4.00 was quite sufficient especially for our granddaughter. We did think about the bedtime story and wish, looking back, that we had paid for this as an extra. The elves were so magical it would have been a wonderful experience for our granddaughter. I can not fault Canterbury Travels regarding their organisation of the whole 4 days. Enjoy the experience.

Full snow suits in the day and for evening I put thermal later then jeans and Christmas jumper. It’s cold but 5-10 min walk so that warms you up a bit anyway. Snow boots everywhere x
