This is an interesting review to write. I first visited this resort 25 years ago and it has undergone growth and change in this period. That said, many things remain the same. I understand this hotel has been purchased and will become a Secrets and I really hope they don't change many of the positives that are present in the resort. That said, there are negatives, rooms are very outdated, even the newer ones. If you are female for example, take a hairdryer as the old one attached to the bathroom wall will drive you nuts. If you are interested in food, it is at best, OK. My favourite was Morgans Pier. Definitely did not feel Le Jardin was worth the supplement. Deck chairs at pool and beach are not particularly comfortable and small things are annoying, like they do not go totally flat. Now back to the positives, every member of staff are extremely polite, very warm and friendly and no request was too much trouble. Within a day or so, they all know your name and genuinely, they were an absolute positive. @secrets, do take note. These people are brilliant. Again, as a solo traveller, several of the staff took time to just chat to me and engage. I must specifically give a big shout out to the watersports staff, which in large part, was why I chose to return, they were extremely brilliant and very kind to an older woman. They provided excellent sailing lessons and also took me out every day. All of them were proficient in their skills and were very good company out on the water. I especially enjoyed the lizard fish and seeing the turtles. Their knowledge of the shoreline and the ocean was stellar, but most importantly, they made it all fun. EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of the water sports team helped me over the days and I cannot say enough positive things about them. The location is beautiful and the beach is heaven on earth. In conclusion, I will definitely go back and am very baffled by some of the other reviews I have seen. Guess if I were being hyper-critical, I would say years ago, they made their cocktails with fresh fruit and now it's all done from prepared juices etc which can run on the sweet side. Thanks again to all the staff who made my holiday so very enjoyable. Hope to see you all again soon…
Spend 13 days here late Aug / early Sept 2022 as a family of 3. Our second visit to this resort having visited June 2019. The resort was incredibly quiet, the occupancy was the lowest I’ve ever seen at any of the all-inclusive, Caribbean resorts we’ve visited over the last 20 years. Nice in some respects, sunbed availability, restaurant choices etc. but had negative effect in other areas, see below. I will start by saying, we had a really great holiday. My last report on the resort, I mentioned issues with the front desk staff. This has clearly been addressed as the staff on the front desk, could not have been more accommodating. Well done. I will say, ALL of the staff were fantastic, throughout our stay. Special mentions for Christopher the chef who made our visits to the simple beach grill special. Nicholas, in the bar at the adult’s pool, was simply excellent. Once he knew our order, our drinks were poured before we even reached the final step of the climb to the pool. Thank you. Christian, Khah, Tricia and Carter are just a few of the names I managed to retain in order to express thanks. The staff in the restaurants were excellent and could not do enough for us. Always a friendly greeting and always a smile. And finally, Ezekeil. I will say that I was disappointed at the management’s decision to remove him from the beach and put him on duties in the Palms (which was hardly busy). On the beach and round the pool, despite all other bar staff being very good? None could hold a candle to this guy. A lot can be learned from Ezekiel’s customer service and the way he made people feel special. Well done to him, I simply cannot understand the decision to move him. Restaurants and bars. Due to low occupancy, Only 2 restaurants were open daily for evening dinner. This was not actually an issue in getting a table at a preferred time BUT, as per other recent reviews I’ve read, we too feel that to include the Le Jardin as one of those choices is just not on. Bear in mind to eat there, you pay a supplement over and above your all-inclusive package? See more below…… The Palms. Breakfast was always plentiful and the food always good. Open also for lunch as a buffet style, food was again very good. The Bambou. Only open some evenings for dinner. Lovely ambience and setting. Food was good bar the cheese board which consisted of 3 pieces of the same (I think) cheddar and 5 biscuits! Tree Tops. Again a dinner venue, the food was excellent here. Beach Grill. Great for a quick snack. Great burgers, fish or chicken with a salad available. Plum Tree Grill up at the kids pool. Only went once. Menu was very limited and service was a tad slow. Le Jardin. OK, a negative. In 2019, this place felt special and was worth every cent of the additional charge over the all-inclusive. On our visit? Zero ambience. Place was empty. No piano player, food was mediocre (steak was good though) and the AC was freezing. When this is one of only 2 available evening dinner venues? And you have to pay a supplement to go there? At least make it special. We went once and not again. Shame with the memories of 2019 being so good. The Red Door. This was new to us. Wasn’t there in 2019 and I loved it. Great ambience with an excellent barman. The Main Bar for evening is situated in the centre. In 2019, it was a bland, soulless place, lacking any comfort to speak of. They’ve listened. Now with sofa’s, the bars been moved and it feels completely different. Much better. Main pool / swim up bar. Excellent cocktails and excellent staff. Need to change that Mariah Carey music though. However, on occasions in the afternoons? The music was just too loud. You could not hold a conversation with the person next to you and we moved away. The Sand Pit. Great for drinks on the beach. Not sure if the staff don’t like working here but it was the only place we saw a little bit of negativity from the staff. Adults Pool Bar. Nicholas? Keep doing what you’re doing. Well done. Great place to end the day, watching the sun go down. The Gym. Excellent, well equipped. BIG TIP. Lots of other reviews saying “no bottled water available except in the shop”. The gym has a chilled water fountain that you can top your bottles up with. Now for the rooms. It’s no secret that this place has been sold by elite Islands, to Secrets and so is going through a refurbishment program. And it needs it. Our room (in the 200’s) was very tired. Tiles loose, a useless lock on the balcony door that didn’t shut properly, the whole room was tired. AC was good though. I’ve seen pictures of the refurbed rooms and the baths been replaced with a shower but are they doing enough? The walkways with there stairs to the rooms are very poorly maintained. The pools are dated, the main pool swim up bar’s tatty to say the least. We were hearing at the start of 3 year closures, then 1 year closures and then that it’s not closing for any major work. The staff seem totally unaware of what’s going on. To not close it and just to titivate this now old resort, while still operating, is a risky strategy. It needs and deserves a lot more I think. Water Sports. Simply superb. The guys do a fantastic job. My wife loved the water skiing, free here and the only resort we have ever stayed at where it is. Many thanks St. James Club, for a great holiday. I hope Secrets can take you forward and make St James even better.…
EXCELLENT Customer service! Staff was very kind, accommodating and ensured that guests had the best possible experience. Food was great and the drinks were perfect. 10/10 would strongly recommend! Special thanks to the staff (Ezekiel, Dexter, Bob, Giselle, Kristian, Nicholas, Steffy and the many others!) for making our stay worth every minute!
We had a great time , we took our two very young children who were treated like royalty by the staff . Every day the kids club lady Rosalie came to see if my 3 year old daughter would like to do something up at the kids club , she is very shy and she made the effort to make her feel at ease , such care ! All staff asked how we were all day long and greeted us wherever we went and made the effort to say hi to the children , they all remembered your names . The lovely gardener Jefferson let my little girl look all around the gardens each day and showed her the flowers which she loved Lovely relaxing stay
I first met Sam when she was ordering us like a drill sergeant in the pool for an exercise class. Later, she really showed her skills as a DJ, and hype woman! She got all of us lazy vacationers to not only participate but to laugh and enjoy every second of it! She was consistently caring, sweet, funny, engaging, down-to-earth and a true joy to be around. An irreplaceable part of St James and a true asset to the overall ambiance of the resort!
The room was okay but we often found ant's all over the place, on our first day we thought it looked okay but despite having 5 places to eat ONLY ONE was ever open each day so most of the time it was just buffet food day in day out. Entertainment was not good bearing in mind the price we'd paid to fly there and the only way to reach this resort was by car thru what can only be called "slums". Couldn't believe management allowed a guy to patrol the beech selling drugs on a daily basis - reported this to reception staff and they clearly did nothing..?
From Jeannique in reservations to Denver, Marcus The Wine Somelier, to Delia, Fabiana and everyone in the restaurant, thank you for a wonderful time. We could not have asked for a better. Special thanks to Marcus for arranging dinner when we forgot to make reservations and going the extra mile to make it special.
PAUL BELLMAN was awesome and has a welcoming smile......Dinner could've been better but servers Montell, Fabiana and Dalia made up for that with their excellent service. Room service and front desk were quick and amazing .the pools were nice and staff were welcoming..overall I had a good time.
We are here now at at James Club. This is our third visit to the resort. We’ve returned as it’s always been our favourite all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean and we also love St Lucia and its people. My wife and I cannot understand the negative reviews. The people who work here are warm and kind and go out of their way to make your stay special. The resort is quite old but is very well maintained and retains a lovely authenticity and charm you don’t get from those 5 star, sterile glitzy establishments. We love the character of the place. The rooms are refurbished and really comfortable. We were lucky to have been given a see view room and loved hearing the waves lapping at the shore. The food in all the restaurants is very good. Variety is excellent and I can’t see an issue at all with the fact that only a couple are open each evening. Book with reception for a few days in advance and you’ll get reservations in all of them. All the restaurants are individual in their theme and offering, making each visit a unique occasion. The facilities at this resort are great. We love the watersports and the fact that everything is freely available and generally free to take out at anytime. The watersports guys are at the top of their game and ensure everyone is kept safe and has a great time. What is packed into this fairly compact resort always amazes us. A great selection of a la carte restaurants and one buffet restaurant. A wonderful lunchtime restaurant (Plum Tree) at a family pool on the Hill. A lovely hill top adult pool and bar, from where you can watch the beautiful sunsets, a fabulous beach bar where you’re always sure to get warm service and great drinks. A pool bar with swim-up side in the amazing, large free form pool are (2 great pools there). There is also the sunset lounge which offers great entertainment and the late night, adult bar. Not forgetting a lovely coffee shop with freshly made pastries. I fail to see why anyone could criticise this place. It sits on a beautiful hotshot bay. The staff are friendly and fun to be around. They go out of their way to make you happy. Go out on the Joy Cruise. This man has 25 years of taking people on a fantastic catamaran cruise you won’t forget. It is an absolute must and we’ve done it twice. Lastly, disregard those negative reviews and visit this fabulous resort in this beautiful location, and enjoy the lovely St Lucien hospitality…
Oh my . Where am I gonna start. When we first arrived there were a slight error but the lady at the front desk dealt with it within seconds . We met Davidson at one of the bars. Davidson is a star . He made our drinks within seconds and they tasted so good . We ate at the buffet during our stay. Dinner wasn't quite of what I expected. The food was 6/10 with the exception of the dessert . Montell, FABIANA and Dalia were excellent servers . We were a party of 11 and everything they served us it was just above and beyond. Not forgetting Chef Petronila and Christopher who made wonderful burgers for us . It was a lovely resort. Will be visiting back just for the team . Thank you so much guys!
