The room we stayed in was on the small side, but I expected this and I’d say that it was a little bigger than what you’d get from a room at a Toyoko-Inn hotel (definitely the rooms at the Hotel Sardonyx were not dated). The bathroom area was a toilet, tub/shower combo and sink in very tight quarters, with hardly any free counter space. I’d experienced this kind of set up, before, so it wasn’t a surprise, but it may be too compact and tiny for those not used to bathroom areas like this.
The room itself was very clean and modern looking. It came with indoor slippers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer, among other things, which was useful. At an accommodation such as this, you’re understandably not going to get any nice views (we had a view of the expressway/highway and high rise buildings), it’s more for the sake of convenience of why most people would stay here. The WiFi offered at this accommodation is fast and was not spotty, one of the best connections I’ve experienced at a hotel in Japan.
The complimentary breakfast was served in a room that would seat about 15-20 guests max and you choose items from a menu and they deliver it to your table. Some of the menu items cost extra (it’s all specified), so if you don’t want to pay, just stick with the basics. The sandwich that we ordered was pretty good and it came with a side of soup.
Checking in and out was very easy and pleasant, since everything was prepaid. The staff here were friendly and we didn’t experience anything negative during our time here. We stayed here for our first night that we spent in Japan, and chose this hotel in Ueno, mainly due to how convenient it was to the train stations. As such, I’d personally recommend this hotel for those who want a centralized location to the JR and Keisei Ueno stations, for those who would prefer a complimentary breakfast included in their stay and anyone who wants a reasonably priced, clean room.
The rooms and bathrooms were small, but I know that's common for Tokyo so I'm still giving this hotel 5 stars! The rooms were very clean and quiet (seemed to be sound-proofed well because the street outside isn't the quietest, yet we barely heard anything). We had the do not disturb sign on our door and every day housekeeping would leave a bag with clean towels on our door handle, which was thoughtful. On our last day, we were able to store our luggage at the front desk while we went out after check out since our flight wasn't until the evening.
We didn't have the chance to try their breakfasts because we were busy trying other food, but it was great to know they offered free breakfast!
For the price, convenience, and cleanliness, I'd definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Tokyo :)
Additionally, our room was simply beautiful. Its aesthetics and comfort were second to none, providing a relaxing haven after a day of activities. The attention to detail in the room's design and amenities contributed to our overall enjoyment of the stay.
The hotel itself is small, with very small rooms. But in general, the rooms have everything. Breakfast takes place in the cafe on the 1st floor, you can choose 1 of 5 options (hot dog, pancake, toast and something else), tea, coffee. Breakfast is not essential, I wouldn't count on it. The hotel is not bad, but another time I would have chosen a hotel with larger rooms, but I really liked the area.
I didn't smell it initially but once I unpacked and was in bed I could smell it...then it progressively got worse.
The staff let me move rooms but unfortunately it smelled too.
Also the hotel is very worn.
