It is our family’s second time to visit Japan. We recently visited Japan with a 4 year old and 7 year old. We personally chose Mimaru hotel for their family oriented space and location. Our room was spacious, with a dining table, kitchen and big bathrooms. Its proximity to the park is also a bonus. This hotel is highly recommended for family travellers. The staff are very accommodating as well.

We recently stayed at Mimaru a Tokyo Ueno North. We chose it because it suits our family of 3 adults and 2 children (12 and 8 yo). The hotel is about 800m from the train and metro station. It is more of an apartment than hotel. The room is very spacious by Tokyo standard. The room has a good kitchenette with microwave and cooktop. The sitting area is big enough for 5 people to sit comfortably and enjoy our meals. The bathroom/shower was separate from the toilet and was also quite spacious. There was nothing terrible about the hotel. However, you do have to be prepared to walk to and from the stations. There is no restaurants in the property and only a few small restaurants close by (not a problem for us) They are quite generous with providing tea bags (black and green) but not with coffee (we were given 5 coffee pods: 5 of us stayed there for 6 nights). There is a laundry on the second floor (cost ~¥500 to wash and dry). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mimaru but just be aware of the location and lack of restaurants nearby. Yes, we will stay there again.

Dear guest, Thank you for staying with us. Our spacious rooms are popular among families, and the guest can cook the meal and use a laundry. We would like our guests to experience living in Japan. That's why the rooms are like standard Japanese apartment. We are very glad to hear that you liked our hotel! At the same time, we are very sorry about the distance from the station if it made you tired. About restaurants, there are a few restaurants nearby, but the guests do not have enough choices, sorry about that. In other words, guests can stay in a quiet environment. Hope you enjoyed it! Your feedback is highly appreciated to welcome other guests. It was a great pleasure having you here, we all look forward to seeing you again someday. Sincerely yours, Asuka.

This is a very family feel hotel. It’s around a 10 minutes walk after exiting Ueno Station with plenty of little eatery and Family Market nearby.
The rooms are spacious and has a mini kitchenette with stove top and microwave. They also have a coin led operated laundry on the 2nd Floor.
They have limited housekeeping which is one one the reason they can keep the rate so low.

Stayed here for 7 nights in Jan 2020. The hotel is around a 5 minute walk from the Iriya exit of Ueno station, so it’s fairly convenient.

We had a family room which consisted of 2 twin beds and 2 bunks beds. This was perfect for our family of 4. It also had a decent size dining table with chairs, a kitchenette with fridge, microwave and kettle, as well as a sink.

The room itself was very modern and was bigger than any other room we had during our trip to Japan. The staff were excellent as well.

There are 2 minor reasons I would slightly downgrade this hotel;

1. The wifi was spotty at best. It would cut out all the team and when it was working it wasn’t that fast...maybe hotel management need to look into that.

2. The hotel uses central heating and cooling. What this means is that you have an aircon unit in your room but you can’t control the temperature. All you can do is turn it off if your room is too hot or too cold. We stayed here during winter and we would leave our window open during the day to make sure our room would be cool for our return in the evening.

These are things we easily worked around and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to families who don’t want to spend the big bucks by staying in the more popular areas of Tokyo. Given the efficiency of the train system, it’s easy to get to where you need to from Ueno.

First off, top marks to the hotel staff who were all very friendly and helpful. The location is a few hundred meters from Ueno Station... so the hotel is at an ideal location if you plan to use you ain't her station as a base to say go out into the country to ski or explore neighbouring cities. Clean, well run, and non smoking.

On the slight down side there aren't really any convenience stores or restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel... all will involve at least a 200 or 300 meter walk. On the plus side the room size was definitely larger than your typical UENO room probably because it's a little farther from the main part of Ueno. Now depending on how important that is to you that will likely be your main deciding factor. For me I rather enjoy the larger space compared to the tiny rooms in the middle of the Ueno area.

Recommended.

I absolutely loved this apartment hotel! We are a family of 5 and the room exceeded our expectations. It was very roomy with a great lay out and most importantly, it was spotless! The dining room table was large enough for all 5 of us to sit comfortably. The little kitchen was well equipped with a good sized fridge, large sink, and plenty of plates, glasses and utensils. The bathroom was a very good size with 2 sinks and a separate large shower room with bath. toilet was also separate and had a seat warmer! The bed was a little too firm for my liking but from what I’ve read that is pretty standard for Japan and I was expecting this. The rest of my family didn’t mind the beds. The towels were changed daily and also rubbish bins emptied. The location was great. 10 min walk to main Ueno station and Ameyoko Markets, Lawson’s 2 min walk, Family Mart and a few restaurants 5 min walk. The staff were very pleasant also.
I would highly Mimaru Ueno North and would definitely stay here again!

This accommodation in Osaka is a great starting point for exploring the city. It is conveniently located just a short stroll away from the Dotondori district, Daimaru shopping center, and the metro station. There is also an underground walking path and shopping center nearby, as well as Lawson and 7eleven convenience stores. The premises and apartment are spotless, and the staff is very kind and helpful. They even suggested ways to navigate the city on foot to avoid the extreme heat. The beds are comfortable, and there are plenty of amenities available for free at the reception. The apartment is well-equipped with towels, conditioner, shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap. The kitchen has everything you need, including dish soap and a microwave. We stayed in a Hollywood room, which had a projector instead of a regular TV. The view from the room was not particularly charming, as it overlooked an office building, but everything else about the accommodation was perfect. We also loved the two Samurai costumes that were on display at the reception area.

This is a perfect hotel recommendation for larger families/groups. We stayed at the Mimaru Tokyo Ueno North hotel which is made up entirely of suites of various sizes. We had a suite for six (for five of us), three adults (my wife and I plus 21 year-old son) and two teenage kids, 15 & 17.

The suite has four single beds, more like 3/4 doubles (based on U.K. bed sizes). Fine for one adult, plenty of room. The beds are quite firm, certainly firmer than I’m used to at home, but very comfortable. Lots of pillows and some of them are double sided with the rice grain type filling on one side. Others are soft like a feather pillow (not sure of the filling but they were just like they were filled with duck down). There’s also two bunk beds which are similar size but narrower. My oldest son, 6ft, had no issue sleeping in it.

There’s a kitchen area and seating for six. It’s equipped with a hot plate, sink, fridge/freezer and kettle along with cutlery and plates for six. Sharp knives and chopping board, plus pots & pans under the sink. We didn’t cook in the room, but we bought in bread, butter, cereal and cheese for breakfast to fuel up before we started the day. There’s no toaster, but you can borrow these from reception for no charge (Mimaru hotels have a variety of what they call “rental” items but they’re all free to borrow).

There’s a lounge area with TV (all Japanese channels) but we borrowed an Apple TV from reception so we could watch Netflix etc.

It’s about an 8 minute walk to Ueno station and about 10-12 minutes from Ueno Centre (lots of restaurants and shops). Lawson and Family Mart within a few minutes for bits & pieces and there’s a larger supermarket in the station (although it seems more expensive than the konbinis for the stuff we’ve been buying for breakfast).

The only thing I could say against it, was the lack of shelf space in the wardrobe for things like t-shirts & shorts etc that you’d normally lay flat rather than hang up. We ended up having a “wardrobe bed” where this stuff was kept.

Staff were 100% wonderful across the board. All of them spoke perfect English and were falling over themselves to help with anything.

Excuse the beds in the pics below, it was check out day and I snapped a couple of pics before we left.

I strongly recommend booking this hotel for a great stay.

I've been hearing good reviews and experiences from my friends regarding Mimaru and as soon as we started planning to travel to Japan, I looked for the best Mimaru Hotel to cater to our needs. We are a family of 4 (3 adults and 1 child). Upon entering our room, my eldest son said this is, by far, the best hotel we have been to. The space was big for a room in Tokyo. We booked the one with bunk beds which made my kids so happy. The layout of the room was just perfect, separate toilet and bath, there was a dining table, the kitchen was a miniature version of my kitchen back home. It was our home away from home.

Mimaru Tokyo Ueno North sits in a very convenient location, very near the train station, Ueno Zoo and has a Lawson convenience store just outside the bldg. It is also in a quiet neighborhood which makes it perfect for resting after a full day of walking.

The hotel staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful to all our needs and queries.

Definitely a hotel chain I will always consider and book whenever we travel to Japan.

Dear Needmanyvacations, Thank you for your inquiry towards our hotel. In average, it costs about 23,000 yen from Narita Airport to our hotel per taxi. However, ordinary taxis are only available for four people, so you need to take two taxis. There are also fixed-fared taxis from the airport. However, most of the fixed-fared taxis need to be reserved. "km taxi" is one of the taxi companies that have fixed-fared taxis. Please take a look at this company's website for more details. Taking the train to Keisei Ueno station, it is definitely cheaper. It costs about 1,000yen to 1,300yen differs between which train you get on. Walking from Keisei Ueno station to our hotel might feel a bit far depending on how big your luggage is. I hope this answers your question. If you have any question, feel free to ask us.
