Hearty breakfast with lots of (local) salty foods.
Very small room we constantly have to pass over suitcases which sometimes makes things complicated but that's how it is in most hotels in Japan.
Friendly staff. Drinks with or without alcohol offered at certain times at the end of the day.
Great location, super nice staff, clean room and great breakfast.
Would 100% recommend staying here.
Only slightly negative was that checkin is not until 3pm and you cannot get into your room any earlier than that. BUT we were aware of this beforehand.
Still would stay here again!
Staff are wonderful. Very polite, friendly, multi-language and smiling. Breakfast staff are also energetic and thats all to ask for. Breakfast were okay. As a matter of fact, I would even say great for "free" breakfast with that quality.
The Bad
I believe this is more of their Housekeeping issue alone.
There was a trash next to trashcan. Meaning, they probably were hurrying to empty trash and not double checked.
It was around 10am... 11am I am not sure.
Almost all doors are open on the floor were I stayed without presence of any staff.
Few of them are STAYING GUESTS. Meaning, if I am a theft, I could have go in and just take whatever I want to then walk out like no one's business.
Even if not, I had all the time I needed to simply look into other guests privacy. (not that I did) So, I imagned if my room were opened like that when I am out, I thought it be very shocking. Yes, there are cameras and it's quite obvious no one would come and just steal or look into other guests room but... that's not the point right?
Another bad was the room.
So hard to keep things, they had nice bed but just hard to find a spot to simply put things. I basically had to mix my worn dirty clothe with clean clothes piled up. etc.etc.
I was lucky to stayed with very budgeted deal.
But if you pay normal rate, I doubt it.
I've subtracted two star but added one star back in due to the location.
Very nice location to enjoy both UENO and Akihabara.
There are lots of local fast food restaurants (with most of them operating 24 hours) surrounding the hotel and you have no problem of finding food. You can also walk 7 minutes to Yodobashi Camera Akiba for better choices of restaurants. Also convenience stores are located just around the corner.
Check-in was smooth for my party as I understand Japanese. There was another group of foreigners checking in at the same time, but English level of the front desk has to be improved, in my opinion, as I saw there was difficulties of communication between the parties.
Password is used for room security, and it is given when you check in. It is necessary to keep it well as it is also used to enter the hotel after mid-night. I have stayed in their Super Room with a twin-over-full bunk bed for a maximum occupancy of 3 people, which is good for family with one child. Rooms are small as for Tokyo standard, but the good point is that everything was clean. You can select your favorite pillow according to your preference of height and hardness, which is also a plus.
Like most of the Super Hotel, public bath is provided in the hotel. However, there is only one bath, where men are allowed to use during evening, and slots for afternoon and morning are reserved for women.
As a reminder, the front-desk of the hotel is closed after 00:00 mid-night, and you cannot check in after that.
Overall if you're just looking for a base for your Tokyo travels and don't plan on spending much time in your room, it's a great place for the location and hospitality!
The hotel itself is not the easiest to find, so look on a map before you go. Once you know what to look for, it's not too bad. The location is really pretty amazing. I work in a tech industry, so being near Akihabara helped me with picking up some parts that I needed for work on short notice. I also needed to take the Tsukuba Express line, which terminates at Akihabara. Honestly, anywhere on the Yamanote line is bound to be relatively convenient for traveling around Tokyo, but if you've got a reason to go to Akihabara (either business or pleasure), this hotel is a good one to consider.
When I first got into the room, I was surprised by the rather unorthodox layout of it -- in most business hotels in Japan, you can imagine that the room is basically a rectangle, with one corner walled off for the bathroom. Typically, the bed rests up against the bathroom wall and goes the rest of the length of the room. But in this case, the hotel room was wide and not as long, and therefore there's just a narrow area with a desk and fridge off to the side, and the bed is pretty much right after the entrance to the room. To be honest, this works just fine, but it was a bit of a shock when I first went in. I had no problems with the room (except for finding a good place for my luggage, which was rather large).
Super Hotel always includes breakfast, and I knew basically what to expect here, but I was surprised that the choices on offer seemed more limited than those at other Super Hotels I've stayed at. I have some limitations in my diet, and I did OK with the breakfasts, but some days were definitely better than others.
The staff was great, and many of them spoke English, Japanese and Chinese (Mandarin?). I speak Japanese, but their English was very good at this one (far better than most in the chain), and I expect that's really because of the more touristy location of the hotel.
In short, this is a hotel I wouldn't hesitate to recommend -- it was conveniently located, reasonably priced, and made my trip a very easy one.
