The APA Hotel is located 3 minutes walk (or less) from Ueno station, so the communication from the hotel is perfect. You have fast access to shinkansen, local trains, subway. Hotel itself is fine. Rooms are typical for Japanese standards (difficult to accomodate for two person due to a very limited space in the room. Bathroom is fine, beds are quite comfortable. Pillows look like thin pancakes, so ask for another set if necessary. There are typical equipment in the room, like: big TV, kettle, green tea and coffee, hairdryer, towels, liquid soap, shampoo, etc.
Breakfast could be better - there is rather small space for eating, with limited selection of food, but it is in general not a big problem. Staff is very helpful.
I can recommend this hotel but it is definitely not luxurious place to sleep - just a typical hotel, with great localization.

Location is a bit far from shopping and restaurant area. Quite far from Ueno station.
I have booked including breakfast but they said no breakfast. It's bad.
Room is small as Japanese business hotel.
Staffs are helpful.

Stayed at APA Hotel Ueno Ekimae for 6 nights in July 16. Though it is called Ueno station but it is still around 10mins walk from the hotel to the station.
Like any other Japanese business hotel it is small ( can only open an 29" suitcase after some rearrangement) but functional.
Room is clean and people at the reception are very friendly.
There is only 1 lift at the hotel so when there is a large group of people might have to wait for a while.

I stayed at the hotel for three nights. The room was quite small, but that seems typical for APA hotels in Tokyo. Despite its size, it was clean with a very clean bathroom and had many amenities. If you stay here, I recommend not bringing too much luggage due to limited space. The hotel offers laundry facilities, costing 500 yen per wash and 100 yen for every 30 minutes of drying, which I found convenient. Additionally, it's quite close to Ueno Station, only about a 7-8 minute walk, making it easy to buy Skyliner tickets to Narita Airport

I really enjoyed my stay here. It is located close to Ueno station, a 7-10min walk, or a closer walk to Inaricho station (Ginza subway line), so you are well connected to transport, even if you're far from the bigger tourist areas. Asakusa and Sensoji are nearby, 15-20min walk, same for Akihabara. The neighborhood is more local/quiet, which I preferred. There is a north and south entrance to the lobby. Checkin was easy and the staff was extremely professional and polite. There is only one elevator. The room was small for western standards, but even with a big bag, it was fine - you can store the bag under the bed. Loved the deep tub to soak in, and loved the provided yukata! You get plenty of towels, and on the second day, they leave a bag with even more. Included a few free bottles of water too. Everything worked great, AC worked great. View was decent. Bed was comfy. This is a great hotel if you want value and comfort, but not be in the middle of the busy city. I would love to return!

Had a great stay here. The hotel is located within walking distance of Ueno Station, which was handy for the express train from the airport. It was well located for the sakura viewing too, a short walk to Ueno Park. There are convenience stores close by and a couple of bars and restaurants too (between the hotel and the station).
I loved the efficient check in and out. The rooms are small, with absolutely everything you need to rest and recharge before heading out to explore Tokyo. Including comfortable bed and good shower. The breakfast is small.

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. Very dirty. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in years - even after requesting clean up. The carpet was dirty and filled with crumbs. Dirt and brown stains on the walls.
The room was extremely small; there was barely enough space for two adults. The luggage had to be stacked on top of each other to fit in the entrance of the room which was 1,5 kvm2.
The size was bearable, but the lack of cleanliness was definitely not. Will not stay with APA-hotels again.

I have to premise that I have a large experience of hotels in Tokyo and all over Japan, being very frequently in this Country.
If you want to test the feeling of a "Capsule Hotel", but paying like in a 4 stars hotel, then you have to choose APA Hotel Ueno Ekimae. Room is absolutely small, so small to be really unliveable. There is no single space where you can put your second luggage, no space to walk in the room without hitting something. It's really indecent ! Bathroom ant tube are also small, but a little better than the room. Internet connection is incredibly slow. The heating system starts working only after midnight, so before that time you have to endure the cold. Unbelievable !!! As written before, prices are really high and the personnel is cold and never ready to be kind or supportive. The only positive point is the breakfast, which is decent.

Stayed here for 5 nights on a long vacation in japan and I must say it was a great experience for the last 5 days. Staff was great and helped us with an additional paid night as we had a very late flight as well as a taxi to Haneda airport. Room was rather small but it's ok as we had many small rooms during our stay. Hotel and room was very well kept. Location was the best part... just minutes walking to Ueno Station... which you can go almost anywhere in Tokyo. They have many workers that could speak English which is very helpful.

This is going to be a very short review.
The bed is sagging and it is hurting my back.
The pillows are basically mats. So thin and so uncomfortable.
The room is tiny but clean. That’s expected from most Japanese 3 star hotels.
I can’t wait to get out of here.
Never book this place again.
I just booked my second night next door at a different hotel.
