The room looked very old, bathroom the same. Big of smell around in the corner.
It is a small hotel located in a quiet neighborhood - tucked out of the way, but still close enough to the action if you don't mind walking - but not so bad. 3 blocks away is the excellent Sumida Park on the shore of the Sumida River which runs through Tokyo. It's only 1600 ft to the famous Senso-ji Buddhist Temple area and shopping, and a little over 1/2 mile to the Asakusa train station. Across the street is a Lawson (get boxed meals and 7/11 type foods - but higher class.) There are a couple of restaurants on the street. From some of the rooms in the hotel, and in the nearby streets, you can see the famous Sky Tree Tower - but not Russia.
The room I had was quite small, but doable. You had to put your suitcases under the bed or else you couldn't walk around the room. Bathroom was small but was outfitted with the great Japanese style electronic toilet seat. Front desk less fluent with English when compared with other tourist hotels, but I knew enough Japanese to get by without difficulty. Breakfast was basic Japanese with a minimum amount of choices. Internet is provided free and the price was excellent during the Sakura Festival Week.
Location is quite far from Asakusa station, but is easy to find from exit 7 (just walk straight for 10-15 mins).
Room is neat & cleaned everyday, but they don't provide water inside the fridge.
Also no computer, but LAN cable is available.
Laundry is convenient (300yen for washing, 100yen for drying).
Staff are nice, though their English is limited. Just talk to them using simple sentences & they'll understand.
You can use the phone inside your room with reasonable charge.
The only weakness that I experienced is the internet connectivity. Sometimes the connection was cut in the middle of browsing..and it happened often, which was irritating coz I needed to find some info about the places I wanted to visit.
10:30am after an all night flight from Australia arrived in the pouring rain and eventually found our way to this hotel which is a long walk from Asakusa Subway Station.Requested an early check in to allow us to change into dry clothes and were informed that it would cost us AU$225 for early check in and that we still couldn't have a room till midday.
After some discussion staff allowed us the use of a small toilet to change into dry clothes.
When we returned some hours later and eventually were allowed into our room, the lift, hallway and room all smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke.
I require a CPAP machine for sleeping and was not able to use it due to a lack of power points in the very cramped room.
Some staff spoke just passable English.
Breakfast was ok.
Location is central to some major tourist areas.
We stayed our 3 nights but did not return 3 weeks later when we came back to Tokyo at the end of our trip.
Don't get me wrong, our room was clean, the staff knows English but the girl who checked us in wasn't smiling and not very helpful. There weren't tourist info brochures like maps in the lobby and it's quite small and we think the a/c was turned off 'cause it was hot. We had wifi in our rooms which was a big plus, and we were comfortable. We just didn't like the location.
Sure there's Lawson nearby (just across the street and a little ways to the left), and they granted my request of a room with a view, we were able to see Tokyo Skytree from our room in the 10th floor, but location wise this is very poor if you're a traveler dependent on the Tokyo Metro subways. It has a bus stop right in front of it but we don't know how to commute via bus.
The closest train station is Asakusa, which takes around 15-20 minutes walk, and longer if you have luggage like we did. If you don't mind the exercise then stay here by all means. I'm reviewing this based on our previous stay in Rembrandt Inn, which was a stone's throw away from Nishikasai station (Tozai Line). We were looking for that accessibility and didn't get it.
