The lodge is so welcoming and nice. We had perfect weather, so we were able to many of the activities. I went on the hike to see seals, and that was great. Gerry took us all out one night to show us glow worms and star gazing. It was wonderful. The eel feeding was fun too. Enjoyed the kayaking on...

We recently had our second visit in 12 months at this fabulous wilderness lodge and would love to make it an annual visit. We stayed in a River View room which was extremely comfortable and spacious, with tasteful decor, luxury toiletries and best of all a fabulous view out over the lake. Anne and Gerry were warm and engaging hosts....

The closed gate at the entrance seemed odd, but made perfect sense once we got in. The Wilderness Lodge is just that - a diamond place to stay on acres and acres of land. It has it's own power generator, but you would never know it. Several buildings form the property literally in the wild tropical area, about a kilometer...

It's difficult to determine the best part of Wilderness Lodge: the staff, location, activities, rooms or food. The owners Gerry and Anne provided the impetus to save the incredible Rimu forest and have owned the lodge for 27 years. They are an institution. They've chosen a fantastic staff to serve the guests with great hospitality. Kelly was wonderful as were...

If you want to see New Zealand in its true native beauty then this is the place to stay. A wonderful lodge set amidst beautiful natural forest beside a river and lake, with majestic mountains all around. Staff are great and Gerry's ( the owner) guided walks are informative and enjoyable. Definitely stay more than just a night to experience...

The Wilderness Lodge is a fabulous place to stop and experience the gorgeous wild nature of the West Coast. The hosts and conservationists, Ann and Gerry, have created a fantastic place to relax while offering many different guided hikes and activities as well. Our room was quiet with a beautiful view of the river and the rainforest. Unfortunately we were...

Staff very friendly and helpful. Great place for hiking and kayaking. Accomodation was clean and comfortable and very quiet. Food was very good and great service. Limited wifi access and no tv's. Fruit and tea making facilities in room and there was a laundry room. We walked to Munro beach which was circa 45 minutes from the lodge which was...

This lodge, its location, its programs, and its proprietors Gerry and Ann rate a 6 on a scale of 1 to 5. Everything about our stay here was fabulous. Wilderness Lodge is located in a rain forest quite close to the western coast of the South Island. The nature walks led by Gerry and staff were phenomenal....on a beach walk,...

Gerry and Ann are fabulous hosts with a great staff providing excellent food and service. Make sure you go on the nature hikes especially to Seal Beach with Gerry. Not for the faint of heart especially with the climb coming back.Gerry's knowledge and passion about the environment is unmatched and it comes through in everything he does as well as...

We also stayed at Ann & Gerry's Arthur's Pass Lodge so had high expectations which they exceeded. The owners have been instrumental in saving thousands of acres of forest by showing that ecolodges are a sound investment, produce jobs and don't destroy the forests. Gerry gives an informative, entertaining talk on some evenings. Good hiking trails, well maintained and marked....

Dear Happ415, Great to hear you had such a good time at both the Wilderness Lodges. It is nice to hear your appreciation of our philosophy that sensitive tourism can protect and educating about nature while also creating jobs in rural New Zealand. Kind wishes, Anne Saunders and Dr Gerry McSweeney Owner-Managers
