We arrived to spend just a few easy days in this area and had the best adventures; kayaking, penguin watching and night sky viewing. Wish it would have been a longer stay! The chefs prepare wonderful multi-course meals. The owners and their staff are knowledgeable and great hosts. And we enjoyed our fellow lodgers, as we sat around the happy...

I visited in December 2016 for two nights and had a really great experience. There are many great outdoor activities - I recommend the "Hard Sea Coast Hike," the star gazing walk, and the eel feeding. The staff are super friendly and I really enjoyed the hike. The food is also very good as is the wine. The biggest complaint...

Dear Kdeplatchett, Thanks for your review. We do encourage our guests to participate in our guided activities, both harder and easier as they are a big part of what sets the Wilderness Lodge apart. Great also that you enjoyed meeting our team, the food and the wine. Satellite based internet is much slower than what is available in towns or...

My husband and I are biologists and we were so fortunate to get to stay two nights at the Wilderness Lodge near Lake Moeraki in New Zealand. Hosts Gerry and Anne gave us such a warm welcome. The rooms and grounds were excellent. We were well fed (too well fed perhaps) and were treated to coffee/tea and home-made shortbread cookies...

We recently spent 2 nights at the Wilderness lodge as part of a VBT bike trip. What makes this place special is the location and it's owner, Gerry, who obviously has passion about his property and the wonders and beauty of New Zealand. The accomdations were certainly adequate and the food was good, but neither one is outstanding on it's...

Dear Gumdoc45, Thanks for your review. We do appreciate all the feedback we receive. Great you enjoyed the activities and the chance to experience and learn about this special place. The limitations of our internet are a frustration but also a reality of being in remote New Zealand. We trust that the rest of your cycling adventure with VBT was...

I have one word for you if you happen to come across this amazing property. Well maybe two! Find Gerry !!! And "Grab-a-hold" of whatever he is offering as far as activities go! I managed the glowworm and night sky tour at 11 PM and also a four hour hike to a seal colony, while drinking from waterfalls and searching...

We arrived on the first of our two nights to find that there was an expedition to feed eels , our boys thought this sounded great so off we went and weren't disappointed, Gerry our host gives interesting and detailed guidance on almost everything he speaks with that "Attenborough" style that captivates rather than tranquillises! The Eels were a sight...

I concur with the many other 5 star ratings given to this hotel. It is superb in providing a restful retreat from the hassles of daily life, with comfortable rooms, excellent food and drink, friendly and courteous service, and surrounded by forest and lakeside walks, plus easy access to secluded beaches. If you want somewhere to forget about the car...

We went to Lake Moeraki specifically to see the fiordland penguins & weren't disappointed! We took the morning penguin watch tour, but there is also a hike that sees the penguins & seal colony for more rigorous hikers. We ended up in very close proximity watching penguins exit the water, preen, and go to their forest homes...Gerry and the lodge...

We stayed 2 nights at the Wilderness Lodge and it was an enriching experience. Gerry was a wonderful host with his profound knowledge on the birds and rainforest eco system in NZ. Knowing that my wife was a mad dog lover, he brought his own personal dog Bo to play with us as well bringing us to feed the eels.Patrick...

This is an awesome lodge in the wilderness on the edge of a beautiful lake surrounded by rain forest! They offer a serene setting, fun "adventures" (see the penguins if they're in mating, hatching season), and enjoy great food, namgiance and delightful owners. You'll be unplugged here ...no tv, no cell service, no newspaper, very little internet service...so relax and enjoy...
