Tired decor, nastiness round the hinges on the toilet, very dated, stained pillows (to be fair, the covers were clean, but one hadn't been put on completely, revealing the unpleasantness within). The 'lake view' required us to be standing up looking through the weird porthole-like window. Having paid extra for this, and expecting (based on the pictures) a proper view with a balcony), this was very disappointing. Can't comment on the food etc, as we left (non-refundable, but we were prepared to pay to go elsewhere). The receptionist was actually pleasant and tried to help by offering another room, but our minds were made up by that point. Interestingly, we have had no contact from the hotel since, asking why we left a fully paid-for room - if this was my business I would want to know what the problem was. If contact had been made, I may not have written this as a public review, but discussed it directly with them.

First, I was given a room in the basement, which I was notified about upon booking. They apologized for this. Then i entered the room that smelled terribly bad. I am sick and tired of this junk show that some hotels in England afford to offer.

Our initial room was unfit for use. Very poor decorative order. The receptionist gave us an alternative room. The main hotel building is tired, Exteriour Paint peeling, wood rotting, paved areas closed off due to broken paving slabs. The reception area is pretty good, over looked by a magnificent ceiling with stair cases leading to the upper floors. The bedrooms need refurbishment. Ours over looked the lake and the building where the darts championships were once held. From a distance that building appears unused. Alongside that building is a scruffy floating accomodation unit, with a fake paddle wheel. It appears to be tilting precariously to one side, suggesting it partly sitting on the bottom of the lake. Its an eyesore. In our building is the restraunt. Not too bad a place to eat. Breakfast was pretty good. No complaints. The staff who tended to us were fine. Across the lake are other buildings. The Cabaret Club and another hotel building. We looked from a distance towards those buildings. One of them is heavily Heras fenced off. Lots of what looked to be migrants too and frowing. We did not investigate any furthur. We did not enter any fenced off areas. Another point worth mentioning is that the spa /pool was closed. Looking through the windows, that part of the building is in need of major work. To sum up. Was it worth ?. Was I impressed ?. Would I return.? Sad to say, if there was no alternative local accomodation available then I MIGHT. Emphisize, MIGHT

Rude staff (especially on reception) tired & dated and has long since seen better days. We should have taken the hint after recieving a less than welcoming experience (patronising woman) on the telephone when booking. The only consolation was we only stayed one night.

This hotel is stuck in a time warp. We stayed here 11 years ago and it hasn't had a lick of paint since then? The bed was rock hard and the breakfast was one of the worst I've ever had. The food was overcooked, super greasy and completely cold. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because the guy behind reception was really polite, professional and helpful. We won't be coming back.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. One hand towel, lights didn’t work, very shabby and bad mannered staff. When we asked about the lights we were told that we didn’t need lights to go to bed. A disgrace to the British hospitality industry . Do not waste your money , sleep in your car.

There have been many reviews for Lakeside International and I will add my honest review. The hotel looks lovely in the pictures, but it is clearly stuck in the past with the aged decor. Although the seating in the bar area and restaurant was comfortable, there were lights not working, dust and cobwebs, although the toilets looked smart they still needed a good clean. Had to use a “key” to get in the room with a big metal tag! It was quiet with just a few guests but apparently more busy during the week (which suited us). The Reception wasn’t “buzzing”!! Now the good bits. Plenty of parking. The room was presentable but a bit basic. The food in the restaurant although limited was nice as was the breakfast and a lovely seating area outside overlooking the lake. Sayed (the Manager) couldn’t do enough for us. He went over and above to ensure we enjoyed our stay. What a good man and asset to the company. Sadly, the hotel is living on its laurels of being the home of darts for quite a few years, but it really needs upgrading. I would stay here again if in the area, but if you choose to stay here, don’t have high expectations.

Disappointed is an understatement! The overall cleanliness and condition of the room was extremely poor. When you pay £100+ for just one night you would expect it to have at least been cleaned properly. Cobwebs around the lights, mould around the bath, curtains coming off the rails, cracks and dents in the walls. When we put the bathroom light on we were deafened by the sound of the extractor fan which sounded like an aeroplane was about to take off. The toilet roll holder was hanging onto the wall for dear life! I personally have a massive phobia of spiders and was greeted in the morning with a large spider on the carpet by the bathroom door, which my husband had to deal with immediately, and then we found another in the corner of the room - thankfully not such a big one, but a spider sitting happily in its web nonetheless, evidence that cleaning is not being done properly. I know spiders can appear anywhere - but like I say cleaning would help get rid of them surely? The window was "sealed" with some sort of silver tape, all hanging off and looking decidedly poor. I can safely guarantee we will not be booking into this hotel ever again. We have emailed them, but feel that since there has been no reply - then they aren't really bothered. On the plus side, and yes, there is one - the receptionist on arrival was very friendly and helpful. Please think carefully before booking in to this hotel.

1. Reception staff need re-training completely. No welcome from them on arrival. Asked to pay in full at check-in "as some people leave without paying". After a long journey one needs to feel welcome and able to relax (the opposite was the case here). Neither did the reception person ask about our stay on departure or whether everything had been OK. Didn't even say 'have a good journey home' as they were more interested in the post which had just arrived! 2.The breakfasts we had were not particularly good - rather greasy cooked food, no fresh fruit option and everything cleared away at exactly 9.30am! Made to feel slightly uncomfortable generally in the dining room. 3. Hotel is run down overall with very old fixtures and fittings - not all of which worked properly. However, the cleaning staff were good, pleasant and helpful. Room a reasonable size and comfortable bed.
